As we have all our gorgeous babies now, welcome aboad the 5th Gemini bus.

Drinks and previously banned foods supplied in bulk, Car seats installed, slings and prams at the ready, as we head into parenthood, and all the excitement, and sleepless nights our little ones will bring along the way.

The Duchess looked very normal. I thought she actually looked her best, more natural with less effort. Her hair wasn't so set and so was wearing less makeup.

Thank you bring SmileYou're right

Onto more happier subjects. My little chick did his first roll last night. He sleeps on his tummy with his bum in the air and then wiggles about when he wakes. He must have lost his balance and just rolled over, the little chick gave himself quite a shock!

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 02:29

Yes pear I think your well within your rights to complain, if only to highlight your experience and perhaps save one other girl from feeling that way!
My hospital are so pro bf and I've never heard of anyone being told to top up with formula so very shocked Shock even when my dd1 hadn't gained her birth weight back I was just given more support and advice
Yes I thought she looked beautiful and so glowing, I agree pear and just glad she looked normal, not like these celebs who are a size 4 again the next day!! I really hope she bf as it would be such a good advocate to incourage others too

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 02:30

Ahh pear my little chick sleeps like that too Smile
I love the bum in the air position!!
No rolls here though. He's very advanced little pear

peardrop2 · 24/07/2013 03:53

Kitty I'm sure he's not meant to be this strong for his age! He's got a very strong neck. Has always been able to turn his head side to side from very early days when lying down. He also started grabbing from 4 weeks which I'm not sure is normal and I swear if I pat his back and he's over my shoulder he will then pat my back in return...bizarre.

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 05:04

pear I predict baby pear will be walking by 11 months. Head control is core muscles which is the gross motor skills needed for sitting, standing, walking.

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 05:19

Oh And it is quite likely he is patting you.
I think they're cleverer (its a word honest) than people think, it's a good age to start signing (baby sign) with them.
Ds can baby sign food/eat, milk, mummy, daddy, (based on where around his head area he deliberately taps his hand, or makes a movement) any deliberate attempt is accepted as a sign. Which encourages it to be repeated.
We've been doing it since he could focus his eyes properly. He's not reliable in any except food/eat. (That's an easy one.) but we're getting there.

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 08:03

Dd2 is incredibly strong, her head control had been amazing since she was born and she pulls herself up the cot every night!
Dd1 was nothing like this and her head was floppy for ages funnily frus she was slow at sitting and rolling but I never put 2 and 2 together, she was still walking before 1 though so as soon as she could crawl she realised she wanted to be off Grin

peardrop2 · 24/07/2013 08:29

That's very interesting observation Frus and I'm intrigued with the baby signing idea! I find it impossible to believe baby pear will be walking soon! They don't stay babies for long do they Hmm

peardrop2 · 24/07/2013 08:31

How do you learn baby signing then? Do you have to buy a book? I'm not sure I can handle anymore reading! Brew

peardrop2 · 24/07/2013 08:37

It was my turn to have a bad nights sleep. I think baby pear might have a cold or the fan is causing him to be bunged up. Not really sure but he just wasn't himself and wanted to be cuddled all night long. I was going to get him weighed this morning but if he has a nap I'll be too tempted to crawl back to bed! I guess I'll only be able to do this once in my life as there will be little chance of that when No2 arrives!

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 09:23

Pear crawl back to bed, I would!!
We had a bad night too, not horrendous dont get me wrong but yesterday shed just woken once at 4:30 then 8 and I thought yes were almost there I bet she'll be sleeping through soon then last night she woke at 12:45 I didn't feed her but then she woke again at 1:45 so I did then then she woke again at 5:30 so I fed her again ( was just to desperate to go back to sleep to try and settle her without) then again at 7:30 so it feels like one step forward 2 backHmm
These babies are hard work arnt they! Dh taking the girls to his mums this morning though yeay

kittykatsforever · 24/07/2013 09:25

Pear you can do baby sign classes at sure start places, I think they only focus on a few words like thankyou, more, food etc Ive got to admit I can't be bothered though, if she crys I think it's food, nappy or tired, usually a boob does the trick Wink

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 09:59

I only know about the head control as dd1 had it and was sitting ad walking early, and dd2 didn't (but to the extreme) and was well over a year before she sat and walked.

this is a good basic little book, very easy reading. Has cartoon pictures of babies and how to do the sign.
There are also DVDs and stuff available, and lots of free stuff available online. (Search free bsl or free singalong) its basically the same signs as baby sign, just with baby sign you are less straight about the child's formation of the sign, in that it doesn't have to be perfect.
Food is an easy one to start with because you hold your fingers to your thumb and touch the side of your mouth with finger tips - and what does baby do when hungry? Hand to mouth. Grin you just praise them, repeat it, and provide food. Grin

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 10:05

pear I did a class with dd1, but have it up as she talked early. I didn't do it with dd2 but will forever kick myself that I didn't, (my fb profile explains dd2)
I have signing quals now, so beyond groups, but its for personal reasons I'm teaching ds, and sign most of the time with him.

peardrop2 · 24/07/2013 10:51

Well baby pear didn't sleep. But he's constantly feeding. Ahhh I need to leave the house in 10 mins before we miss weigh in :-/ I need to achieve something this morning!!!

peardrop2 · 24/07/2013 10:53

This sign language stuff is very interesting! I will look into it. Thanks for the info Frus and kitty!

And kitty...I know that feeling! One step forward to steps back Wink

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 10:59

How old is baby pear now pear is he due his 7wk growth spurt?

Ds is a grumble bum again today. I have no idea what he wants.
Anyone know when the next growth spurt is? I thought it was 12weeks but ds is 10?

peardrop2 · 24/07/2013 11:37

We just made it! 11lbs 10oz. No wonder size 1 nappies don't fit anymore Grin Frus ~ He's 9 weeks

FrussoHathor · 24/07/2013 11:50

Wow pear that's a great weight. We're in size 2 too.

AGnu · 24/07/2013 14:59

I had no idea you could get them signing this early! I did a few signs with DS1 once he could sit up, just basic things like more (which we used for food to avoid confusion with the drink sign), drink, nappy & toilet. We've added please/thank you now too. I never did any classes but taught myself from flashcards. I shall start signing madly at DS2! Grin I'm hoping to do BSL level 1 in the autumn. A local homeschooling group is running a course, complete with hiring childminders to entertain the little ones so the rest of us can concentrate! I can already do the alphabet but that makes conversations rather laborious! Wink I'd love for my kids to grow up knowing how to sign though. I think it should be taught in schools as an alternative to foreign languages.

AGnu · 24/07/2013 15:43

Another grumpy baby here. I think he needs to poo! Poor mite hasn't been since last night! It's gonna be a big one! Envy

The health visitor has just been to do his 6 week measurements & he's nicely on the 9th centile for pretty much everything, just a little below for his length. DH & I are both short though so we're not likely to produce giants! HV really wasn't helpful when I mentioned how much he's bruising me. She just said "oh dear" sympathetically, repeatedly. No suggestions of how to stop it though! Hmm His little gums are so hard & his suck is so strong! I'm wondering if the problem might be the shape of his mouth. No idea what could be done about it if it was though!

Aaaaand... There's the poo! I bet there'll be more in a second & DS1 is due his poo any minute too... Chain-changes again!

bringonthetrumpets · 24/07/2013 15:47

I didn't get sleep last either. M decided she would only sleep on me and nowhere else (not even next to me)....which made for a very awkward way to lay all night. I think I'm going to have to put away the moses basket and bring out the travel cot to set up in our room so I can get her to sleep on her belly so we both can get some sleep. DSs are little exhausted monsters as well since they didn't settle until well past 10 pm (despite all the hard wearing-out-work I thought I'd achieved yesterday). Oh good lord it's gonna be a long day.

Signing early is a great idea! Also busting out my hippyness, thinking of elimination communication. It's so obvious when she's trying to poo.... I'm contemplating on trying to hold her over a bowl and see what happens.
