Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
novadandypowder · 09/05/2006 16:23

DH is around at the mo, but is due to go off to NY on thursday for abother week/10days. I'm afraid I cracked today and ended up in tears on our way to lunch.

Nat has started getting really fussy with her food Shock. After weeks of her merrily taking everything I give her, she's started really fussing with her main courses (stuff that I know she likes). She'll eat her breakfast, yoghurts and fruit but nothing else. Isn't it too young to start being fussy???

I think the problem some people have even with organic jars is that they're heat treated which they claim zaps any goodness in them. There are some seriously extreme views on this board about them!!!

Nat has started to regress in swimming class, instead of closing her eyes and holding her breath she tries to drink the pool water! Think this may be to do with me trying to get her to drink from a cup, but the teacher said she'd never seen it before!

Hope you're all well, and stay smiling x

tessasmum · 09/05/2006 16:45

feeding/dozing baby on lap so no capitals!

nova - poor you with dh away so much. it was hard when my dh was away a lot before we had children, i really don't know how i'd manage now. i can offer you lots of sympathy/empathy and a virtual shoulder to cry on but not much practical help. you need to find some more rl mummies but i know how hard that is too.
tessa got really fussy with food at some point though can't remember when, sorry. think she was a bit older as she lived on cream cheese sandwiches for a while. i was really worried that she would be hungry and just let her eat what i knew she would eat which i now think made things much worse and she is still quite fussy. if poor ash tries it he won't be getting an alternative (or 2!) and will just have to go hungry. could be she is just testing you out to see what happens or it could just be a phase (isn't everything) hope so as the 'being mean' alternative isn't very nice, especially when you are on your own.
sorry if none of that is very helpful!

tessasmum · 09/05/2006 16:51

Awake baby in cot now!!
Chunky baby too, got him weighed today and he's 19lb 3oz at 26 weeks Shock Tessa was 2lbs lighter at the same age.

novadandypowder · 09/05/2006 18:35

Thanks for your kind words Tessasmum. I think it may actually be down to her teething as all the foods she will eat are cold!! And she really gums down on her finger foods. I'm with you on finding it difficult to let her go without, hmm will have to find a happy balance, but lets face it - she's not going to waste away on the 98% centile!! Sounds like you're producing some super mummy milk for Ash Grin

GarfieldsGirl · 09/05/2006 18:42

Wow! Lots of lovely babies we all have here Smile. But I already knew that without seeing them though! Have added some photos of my little pestybums!

Thank You everyone for letting me crash your thread, and making me feel so welcome straight away. This really is the nicest thread on MN Smile.

Nova - how are you feeling? I hope you're making the most of DH while you've got him there with you. I'm sorry I don't have any advice re Nat being awkward with her food, hopefully its just a phase, although that doesn't make it any easier for you, but just try and be strong with her and let her know who's boss! Its a shame we're not closer, I'm feeling at the moment like I need to meet some real people with babies. There's a couple down our road, one a few days younger than Sean, and a new one, but I feel really silly and pathetic, like I'd be walking up to them and saying 'Can I be your friend?' as if I'm in the playground! Remember to take your own advice, adn keep smiling Smile

GarfieldsGirl · 09/05/2006 18:45

Help!! I've managed to add 2 empty albums to the yahoo site, but can't figure out how to get rid of them! Blush

GarfieldsGirl · 09/05/2006 18:57

A-ha, done it!

novadandypowder · 09/05/2006 19:32

It's hard to make RL friends, especially in this location. I take Nat to lots of groups, but it's difficult to make that leap from saying hi to someone and becoming friends.

I have to admit I've been quite rubbish with the people I have met, but it got too stressful trying to take Nat out as she would never sleep in her buggy and would always holler (a situation i think we have remedied now). Also very tired at the mo due to bad sleeping so not the best company! I've just emailed a grovelling apology to the few that I do know explaining why I've not been in touch and I hope we can start doing some things again.

tessasmum · 09/05/2006 20:12

wriggly baby again!

nova - i found the avent sleep easy essence helpful when i was pregnant and still use it now sometimes. i put a few drops on a hanky and tuck it into my pillow. might just smell nice but even that helps me wind down a bit.
ikwym about lack of sleep though, makes the day at least twice as hard

here's hoping for a more peaceful night tonight

Diege · 09/05/2006 20:17

Evening everyone! All in bed, so time for mummy-time! Sorry to hear you've had a tough day NOVA Sad. I know it's hard to make friends, but from meeting you you seem a very warm, open and genuine person, and I'm sure those people you do meet would be very lucky to have you as a friend SmileWish I was closer! Didn't you meet up with a mum from N's swimming class? BTW, on fussy front, I think at this stage they do become a lot more 'testing' of situations (ie, they test you out!! - I remember Jasmine just wanting puddings, and turning her face away from spoon at this age). Think I stuck at it, though as TESSA says, it's amazing how much you forget!! Had to laugh at swimming story - are you sure she's getting enough water?? Wink
That goes for you too GG!! Go on, next time you meet your neighbours with the babies, why not invite them over for a coffee??? If they say 'no', you'll only be exactly where you are now?? Know what you mean though about appearing as a billy - I've actually tried this once, and while they did come round, I was never invited back, and haven't heard from them since!! Blush!!
Well, nursery have told me that chicken pox is going round, and 5 of Scarlett's class were sent home this afternoon. Doesn't look good, esp. as I spotted flat lookinbg spot behind her ear before bed Sad. Just hoping it was her hairband. Being a naughty mummy, of course I immediately though 'oh no!!Meadowhall!!!' Blush. We shall see...

Rodeo · 09/05/2006 20:27

Evening all :)

Feel like I've been away for ages but it was only yesterday morning Blush

Had car crisis today (clutch gone) so dp's frantically trying to find a suitable replacement and phone crisis yesterday (it's been stolen Angry) I feel as though my arm's been cut off!! Keep thinking about all the pictures on it and all the new numbers I'll lose :(

Nova, dh away again, poor you, I suppose it goes with his job but can't make it any easier for you (or him) :( You do always seem to be cope v.well though :) Hope you get a bit more sleep tonight, I'm so baggy when I'm sleep deprived. Don't want to sound like a granny (though my nickname is granny Annie) but make sure you're eating enough and getting lots of rest :) I have a milky drink and a slice of bread and butter if I'm ever suffering from insomnia and always does the trick for me

GG - I also find it hard to make friends with other mums of babies, didn't make any real mummy friends until Bella started nursery. I think the hardest part is getting past all the baby-related convo's (as nice as it is)

Diege, hope you're coping ok too! When dp is away I get the kids on a strict timetable, which always goes to pot when he returns (which I find v.annoying!) Hope you're not doing yourself in anyway! I'm with you re babyjar fascists - there are thing far more important to worry about! The comparison to child abuse really p*sses me off!

Twinkle, hope little Josh is on the mend, looking forward to seeing you both again :)

Tessa, 'scoffing a croissant' LOL Grin That website I was on about was \link{http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/\this one} Although don't anyone else look you'll think we're a right pair of saddo's Grin

Brownie - Glad T's not got an infection, hope it passes soon. Hope your busiest day wasn't too hectic :)

L&Smum, yours for 10 it is! I'll get someone else to pick B&J up so won't need to rush back, although I've not got my phone at the mo (see above) so get me on here if you need me!

Hello Chacha & baby Z :)

Right got to let dp on to the Autotrader, so speak later x

Diege · 09/05/2006 21:02

Will let you know!! She was mega-grouchy at bedtime, but then that's Scarlett... Think rash will be there in morning if it's there at all. And don't you dare postpone MH if I can't make it Shock!!!!

ChaCha · 09/05/2006 21:14

Hi Twinkle, hope you're all well now. Nice to see you post.

Rodeo - Angry OH NO! Feel gutted for you about phone. I was almost in tears on the way home from work once when I thought i'd lost mine. Wished I'd written numbers into an address book, it's such a bummer, is it likely to turn up or has it well and truly been pinched?
Question for you campers, Hi De Hi, DH loves camping, they grew up doing it, is DS too young at 6mths and have you ever been to the Gower? How much IYO would you say a camping holiday cost?
Might just 'get into it' too.

Diege - Do hope it's NOT chickenpox and I think you deserve a supermum seal of approval! :)

Nova - Why don't you go with DH? If money (which I'm sure it isn't) isn't an issue why don't you just join him, chill out in a nice hotel with plenty of amenities for you and Nat. What do you have to lose? Would be good prep for your family holiday..

Beks - Have just seen T's invitation pic, gorgeous, really lovely! :) Where are you hiding you busy bee?

GG - We got there in the end eh? Pictures are fab, very handsome chappies indeed :)

Have just posted a question on highchairs. Don't really see any I like. Want a wooden one, with tray, doesn't need to fit to table as no longer have one, also now need travel cot and travel high chair. Any suggestions?

Had friend over for tea (and Millies cookies, yum)this afternoon we might think of business from home, thinking caps on this week and see what we can come up with (She can deal with book keeping, accounts, credit control etc and I in PR and admin). Going to city centre tomorrow for meet up with friend and her baby, first time for both of us to do city centre alone by bus...eeeeek!
I really hope i can get on one, will make sure i'm home by 3 before the mad kid rush on buses.

Talked way too much, nighty x

BEKsmum · 09/05/2006 21:49

Evening all

Chacha, just answered your post by the way!

Twinkle and Brownie sorry to hear your littles ones have been poorly, hope they are both on the mend now.

Karma, hope your brother is on the mend, you know where I am if you need me - even if it's only to let off steam. I'll call you at the end of the week to see how you are.

Nova I know I'm the other side of London to you but if you fancy meeting up or coming over to me for the day you'd be more than welcome and I'm sure I could host a coffee morning for any of you who want to come - just be warned my home generally looks like a bombsite! Otherwise we could swap numbers and spend an age on the phone! Smile

On the sleep front don't know if it helps but Thomas is being a pita at the moment too, he seems to have got into the habit of fighting every sleep and when he does give in we either get a 15 - 20 minute power nap or he's so whacked out he'll sleep for 2-3 hours. Wonder if it's because they are roughly the same age and weight. I got him weighed this week and he was 20lb 10oz Shock Grin

Diege, hope Scarlett escapes the pox, if not get that calamine lotion ready and plenty of cbeebies & Nick Jnr! Hope you'll make your dh pay dearly if you have to suffer this alone - I think a large box of chocs, a bottle of wine and a bottle of decent perfume should just about do it Smile

Busy good to see you back well done for passing your theory test, uni etc. How's the web business going?

Rodeo, gutted for you about your phone, but at least you can programme all our numbers in your new one from the other site!

GO, Tex, LilJ & Jen where are you?

Things with us have been a bit hectic which is why I've not been on, nothing exciting just have my folks back and we're trying to get the house and garden sorted before our loft extension starts -eek!

Blimey i'm sure there's some things I've missed so apologies to anyone who thinks I forgot them - I didn't just thought I'd better end this marathon post! Love to all Beks

BEKsmum · 09/05/2006 21:57

Sorry, back to say GG what gorgeous boys Smile Right dh wants his pc back night night Beks

Diege · 10/05/2006 09:33

Morning! Well, no spots as yet, and Scarlett seems in good spirits. I know these things can take up to a week or so to develop though, so not getting too hopeful just yet.
Well, a beautiful day here - weather forcast WRONG yet again!!
Looking forward to final of Apprentice tonight Grin!!
Speak later!
Diege Smile

Diege · 10/05/2006 09:35

Oh yes, and meant (last night!) to commiserate RODEO over phone loss Sad, and say how beautiful the babies are on the yahoo site!! Smile

LilJ · 10/05/2006 11:09

HI all,

Haven't posted in ages - time seems to fly by these days! Nate is just so much fun to hang out with and the weather has been so nice that I've been out and about a lot. (lovely to see Golden & JenJam last week - must do it again v. soon).

I've started weaning and he's loving it. It's also made me start cooking again which is great as I used to be such a foodie but found it hard to cook much more than pasta the first few months after he was born. So far his favourites are definitely parsnips and butternut squash. I was hoping to hold out on weaning until we got back from holiday (we leave next week for 11 nights in Mauritius) and I'm also struggling with what to do about food for him while we're there. I'm going to bring some jars of the Hipp organic baby food, but as he's not eating huge amounts yet I think he'll be OK if I bring a jar for every two days. In the end as he's not 6 months yet I'm sure if he only gets a tiny bit of solids and his regular amount of formula it will fine and we can get him back on to the homemade stuff as soon we get back.

I'm also visiting nurseries and yesterday visited one I like very much, but still have the problem that I don;t have a job to go back to so a bit worried that I'll be forking out for nursery and not have any income myself, but it was such a lovely place and he really seemed to fit in that we're thinking of trying to sign him up regardless of my job situation. (JenJam - it's the Gower School which I think you're seeing today - would love to know what you think). I'm also revisiting a nursery that I saw when pregnant and is more conveniently located hoping that I'll fall in love with it even more than the Gower as it's closer & cheaper, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to live up to the other nurseries.

Well gotta run as I have to heat up the sweet vegetable medley for lunch! Annabel Karmel - gotta love her!

J & N xx

novadandypowder · 10/05/2006 12:01

Chacha - there are a few reasons why I can't go with DH to NY:
It's business and he'll be working all day and entertaining all night, so I wouldn't see him anyway. Add to that the last thing he needs is a baby that's not aware of the time zone keeping him up all night.
His company aren't paying for the trip, so a bit cheeky to 'add on' a guest. Also it's not really the done thing to bring your wife and baby along.
NY would be a pretty lonely place to spend all day, at least I've got all my classes here.
We've also got the cats to consider, it can get quite expensive to keep putting them in the cattery, and it's not really fair on them.

LilJ good to see you back, any news from Golden or JenJam, they've not been around for ages?

Diege - lol @ 'sure she's getting enough to drink'. She's getting plenty, it's just that anything that goes near her mouth she tries to eat.

Rodeo - boo to losing your phone. Makes you realise how we no longer memorise or write doen numbers! I don't even know my parents telephone number anymore.

Beks - thanks for being supportive, now we have a proper family car I may just turn up one day!!!

Diege · 10/05/2006 13:04

Afternoon! Good to hear from you LilJ Smile. Good luck with nursery-viewing! You're right that you get a 'feel' for the place that will be right for you ; also worth looking at ofsted reports on net, though I'm sure you know all this!! I think the best lesson I learnt was that nowhere will be absolutely perfect, and that you will always be disatisifed with something!! I remember being obsessed with making sure they took elder dds' bib off when they was asleep, then that they were taking all their milk...the list is endless!! In the end I just 'chilled' a bit more, as they were obviously happy there! SmileI'm sure you will make the choice that's best for you Smile.
Hi NOVA! Hope you're keeping ok Smile, and getting lots of fresh air - has summer come back yet? Certainly has here!! BROWNIE!: My 0.5 tog bag has arrived safely - what a good website!!Also pleased because my wilkinet has come too!!! (bought from lovely lady off mumsnet)so now I just have to figure out how to put the damn thing on!!! Grin. Think I will consult the website!!
Right, best go and wipe dd2's bum!! - you can tell who's not at work today Grin!!

ChaCha · 10/05/2006 17:21

Nova - It was just a thought. Hopefully all will work out well.

LilJ - It's good to hear from you, I hope you have a lovely holiday and enjoy every minute. Good luck on both nursery and job front.

At last, looking fwd to weaning :) Bought book today, some bits and pieces and just a newer steamer to buy tomorrow. Hurray! I have a cheap, standard hand blender, book suggests a mouli, what do you all use?

Babyrice - Any organic suggestions pls?

BoB - How are you? Z is very loud and noisy now with lots of Dah-Dah-A-Dah-A-Dahs all the time. What is O doing? Do you reply with same babytalk?

Trip to town was a success. Bus was fine and apart from overwhelming crowds and students and really warm weather we had a fab time. Hope you are all enjoying lovely day xxx

babyonboard · 10/05/2006 18:12

whoops..just clicked on feb 06 by mistake, and was reading through thinking, who are all these people!? Grin

chacha - sounds like you had a great day! I took O shopping earlier for some summer p.js and new socks..his feet seem to grow so fast!lol

sounds like you are prepared for weaning. I used boots organic baby rice.

O does a lot of talking!no dada yet..just mumu, googoo, gaga, nnnguuurrr, little squeals etc,
I've also noticed lately he has started to do coughs for fun..is this normal?! lol
I do respond in kind, but also talk grown up to him..he prefers the babytalk though!

diege..the wilkinet is tricky at first but after a couple of goes you don't have to think about it. phew thatyoudd is okay!
I'm alsolooking forward to the apprentice..but dp won't be home til 10 and i'm going to record it and have to wait to watch it with him!argh!
best not come on here in case you reveal the winner..lol

lilj - nice to hear from you..have a fab holiday! Envy

any ideas on how to stop O's growing paper/magazine obbsssion..i can't read the paper or a magazine with him around as he freaks out and tries to grab it.
what can i give him as an alternative!? (books don't work!..unless they're one of mine..hehe)

babyonboard · 10/05/2006 18:34

oooh..and today I stole the ingredients of some yummy pasta boots do..
pesto ,penne, cherry tomatoes, pinenuts, spinach leaves, regato cheese, roast pepper and roast soya beans

I've made a huge bowl to stash in the fridge as i'm sick of grabbing cheese on toast or a shop bought sandwich for lunch..
and our local pizza takeaway does a 9inch pizza with three toppings for £3 at lunchtime, I've had it twice this week!..too tempting..but too fatty!
