As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pascha · 22/02/2013 13:54

Daniel sleeps and sleeps in the sling as well, as long as I'm moving about. The moment I sit down or stand still he stirs. Loudly. He sleeps about average in the daytime because I force it. If I didn't he wouldn't sleep at all. He is currently mildy not pissed off in his swing chair listening to Peter Rabbit on the ipod. I reckon I've got about 5 minutes to eat my soup and bread before he gets fed up and requests the pleasure of my attention again.

As for the sex, Birdies, got time to plan ahead for it. Not to actually have it though. The only time DH and I are in the same place alone and horizontal is between about 1 and 6am, intermittently, and then we're both trying desperately to sleep.

Pascha · 22/02/2013 13:56

I think DH would explode before 6 months.

Birdies · 22/02/2013 14:26

pascha when he wants your attention (Daniel that is, not DH :)), does he want to go to sleep straight away again? X gets fed up with wakey time pretty quickly, cries, eats, then sleeps again. Why are they so different to our first babies? I love her to bits but feel like a new mum again!

Birdies · 22/02/2013 14:28

Actually that's not strictly true, if I pick her up and walk her around at the point shes bored of being awake in her chair, she'll often enjoy looking around again....as long as I keep moving...

Pascha · 22/02/2013 15:00

He would stay awake and scream if he could. He fights sleep. DS1 would happily have eaten, played, slept, whatever whenever. He has a permanent worried look except when he smiles.

mrsbugsywugsy · 22/02/2013 15:14

dd mostly wants to sleep, she eats, then is awake for 10-15 mins, then falls asleep. the only exception is in the evenings when she is awake for a few hours at a stretch, and cries unless she is eating or being jiggled around. the swing won't do. eventually she gets tired and cross and we have to swaddle her and jiggle her and give her a dummy till she eventually goes to sleep.

it is good as she is at her most difficult when dp is home from work, but it means we don't get any quiet time together...

katolla · 22/02/2013 16:39

Birdies thanks I will try that, got to write times down as otherwise I've no idea how Long everything has taken.

Bugsy I just tried your idea which seemed ingenious but when I changed nappy everything that had gone into her from the first boob came out her mouth. I think I'm changing nappies wrong..

Oh and we dtd last night at 12 days pp, not sure it counts if I designate huge areas out of bounds though? Cs scar and surrounding area not even touched by me yet :(

katolla · 22/02/2013 16:41

Haven't put dd on her front ever but she likes on her side after a feed, even at night. I think if she feeds on her side it wakes her less to keep that position.

katolla · 22/02/2013 17:01

If she's on her side though I make sure she couldn't roll onto her front, I put her up facing the edge of the Moses basket so she can only roll onto her back from there, is it ok? Sorry will stop posting now

lollipoppi · 22/02/2013 17:05

Katolla hats off to you dtd after 12 days!! Even if I felt ok in myself I totally would not have had the energy to even consider it!!

I put dd on her front in the day, and she sleeps in her side or back at night x

lollipoppi · 22/02/2013 17:07

Katolli, when dd sleeps in her side I roll up a blanket and put it against her tummy so she can't roll onto her front, I'm sure I'd get shot by the health visitor but it works for me and always did this with DS.

Birdies · 22/02/2013 17:45

12 days Shock!!

I'm writing everything down too as I'm not following the routine strictly yet. X is sleeping so well on her front today though. I have a camera monitor so I don't feel like a bad mummy for letting her. I'll report back tomorrow on whether it stopped her sleeping on her back tonight....

Also katolla when theyre so young if you're breastfeeding I think you're meant to still feed on demand. I'm trying to do it every 3 hours as soon as she wakes but only cos she's 8 weeks now. The main thing in the routine is to not let her fall asleep when feeding - or if she does to gently wake her. And ideally once they're older to feed when they wake rather than before they sleep. This stops them relying on the boob to sleep. It's all in this Baby Secrets book, best one I've read.

I just sat on the loo before a shower with nothing on. Suddenly heard a dripping and there was lots of liquid on my leg. I looked up to see if the ceiling had a leak! Then I realised it was my massive right boob!! So the fact that I never leaked at all for 8 weeks but am leaking now - does that mean she's not feeding as much? Can't remember if I asked that already. I don't want her to lose weight....

Pascha · 22/02/2013 19:54

It means she's upped your supply the way she's supposed to so your supply matches her appetite.

12 days? Shock

Berniebennett · 22/02/2013 20:12

12 days, wow, I have my check up and I'm trying to find an argument to give my doctor then gets him to write a note to say no sex for me for a few more weeks ;-) I know bad wife! I just enjoy what little sleep I have! But DH gagging for it so Monday might it is!

We have put LO on his front since about 3 weeks (nearly 7 now) just during the day to play and sleep and he's happy as a lamb! he can lift and turn head now as well which he's been trying to do since 3 weeks. He's go to sleep at night on his back and we have never had any issues, the HV warned us that we would have issues as he falls asleep on us against our chest on his tummy but we have no transfer problems either??

Meringue33 · 23/02/2013 02:00

And we're up... Just 90 mins after getting LO to sleep for 'the night' :(

DTD - LOL. We are lucky to manage a kiss without LO waking up and getting jealous :)

katolla · 23/02/2013 06:31

Don't get excited about 12 days it wasn't elaborate or anything !

Took her to a party last night and she just slept 12.30 till 6, best baby ever. She's pooed on everything now but it seems a fair deal. Especially as dp is doing that bit.

Still doing on demand I won't deny her food! Just I'm so baby brained that writing the times down helps to see where I should have kept her feeding longer.

CreepyCrawly · 23/02/2013 10:09

But still, 12 days!! I'm with bernie and considering getting my doctor to write me a note.

Nancy went to sleep at her usual bedtime of 2am and slept until almost 9. Had a 15 minute feed and is now fast asleep again. Should I be worrying? I can't stop worrying! She's giving out plenty of wet and dirty nappies and is happy a d alert when awake.

MamaMary · 23/02/2013 12:28

Creepy that sounds amazing - a really long stretch of sleep! Leah can only do 3 hours 40 mins (note I'm counting every minute) - but when she settles back down easily (which is not always) I don't mind so much.

Sex - think we did it 3 weeks pp this time. 2 weeks with DD1 when I was actually sorer so it was too early. I can't wait to get my copper coil in as I hate condoms. We are trying to do it once a week...but not easy when we're both knackered.

Birdies · 23/02/2013 13:33

X slept 6 hours in a row last night before her first feed. Definitely helps having more wakey time in the day. She also didn't mind sleeping on her back after being on her front in the day. I'm still knackered though!!

Birdies · 23/02/2013 13:35

Ps creepy as long as she's alert in between then you're just lucky!

mama 2 weeks?! Shock

katola a party?!! Am feeling old now!!

Pascha · 23/02/2013 15:12

Has anyone had personal experience of the contraceptive implant? I'm drawn towards the lack of periods...

Pascha · 23/02/2013 15:13

Mind you, they didn't return last time til DS1 was 14m.

Pascha · 23/02/2013 15:17

Got a black-tie awards do tonight an hour from home. First night leaving Dan with babysitters (DB and SIL). Nothing I have fits properly, my glasses have sellotape on, new ones won't arrive til next week. I have a muffled ear due to coldy symptoms and DH has no voice and a sore throat.

Whats the betting we are home before 11pm?

woody2313 · 23/02/2013 16:55

Hi all, have been loitering on here a bit but finally posting 3 weeks after the gorgeous Joseph's arrival ... we're currently experiencing the growth spurt - after days of making him wait at least 3 hours between feeds (he's a proper milk monster Grin) I now feel awful that I've had him screaming today when I should be demand feeding him during this spurt... what's everyone else's experience of this time? How long will it last?!

Lora1982 · 23/02/2013 19:30

Ive had a lovely day all went shopping witho my sister n niece we spent nothing of real money i had £200 john lewis vouchers from work to use :-D so basically free shopping!!
