As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm a zombie today too, I'm in awe of you ladies with older children too! Nancy has decided bedtime is 2am. She will not sleep until then, no matter what I do. It doesn't matter what she's like in the day, it's still 2am bed time. She'll settle herself in her crib no problem in the day and morning, but not at night. As soon as it hits 2, it's like a switch and she'll sleep until 7-8, have a feed and then sleep again until 12-1. Which is lovely, but I'd rather she did it all a bit earlier.

Also, has anyone not really left their house yet? I've been for walks around my village most days but other than that I haven't been anywhere. I'm dreading when I can drive again at the weekend because then I won't have an excuse. I just don't want to go anywhere :(

Lostbobbles · 26/02/2013 14:04

Very envious of those long sleepers.

I hope DD2 is starting to get somewhere, managed to go 7.30-11, then until 3.30 went back down until 5ish then grumbled on and off until 6.30. Still a long way to go but at least she is in own bed and miles better than she has been.

Birdies: I have that secrets book and follow it loosely, DD2 is rubbish at the self settling part though. Feeding was easy as she goes approx. 3 hours most of time anyway, just wish she would start going longer at night. No such thing as a dream feed in my hose, she is up bang on time for it.

Still not done the morning school run as yet . but will have to sooner rather than later, been dragging it out with the MIL. (Bless her, but she does love doing it so bonus)

We went on trip further south this weekend to see family, stayed night in hotel on sat with all of us in one room (not fun) DD2 was usual nightmare but luckily DD1 seems to sleep like a log and was not too disturbed. DH was a right old grump in middle of the night (welcome to my world) and came out with his usual hungover comment of give her formula at night it will make her sleep. Amazing how he can go on a night out and come rolling in at 4am but moans all night if he gets woken up, it's not like he actually has to do anything either. Rant over lol

Other news - trying to sort out my phone with the insurance. It went for a swim in the loo - oops

Lostbobbles · 26/02/2013 14:05

Oh quick question for any of you giving EBM, what bottles are you using?

BuntyCollocks · 26/02/2013 14:13

lost I'm using the medela calma. Finding them much better than the tommee tippee ones I used with DS.

octanegirl · 26/02/2013 16:20

He SMILED at me! Several times! I just melted and got tears in my eyes.

Lostbobbles · 26/02/2013 19:34

Grin Octane, it's just the best feeling

Bunty, did DD take to the calms straight away, I tried today and she just kept gagging and then threw a fit. Not sure wether to keep trying or try another bottle. Hoping she is not going to refuse any bottle Hmm

MamaMary · 26/02/2013 20:22

Hi Lost I'm also using the Medela Calma. Or at least, DH is. He does all the bottle feeds (about 1 a day usually) as Leah won't accept it from me. Keep trying. You need to persevere with it - get your DH to do it perhaps? I would worry that if you give up at this stage she will never take it.

Leah had a good night there with a nearly 5 hour stretch but last night was back to her usual 2 or 3 hr stretches.

I'm feeling more energetic today, don't know whether it's because I've stopped drinking coffee or because I did quite a bit of exercise yesterday - went for a 2 mile walk and then went swimming.

MamaMary · 26/02/2013 20:23

octane :)

Leah's smiles are fleeting, but they're still lovely.

newbie6 · 26/02/2013 20:35

Hi berniebennet,

I remember you saying you are following GF, would you mind sharing your routine with me as whilst I am loosely following it, I'm not doing the whole feed at 7am thing and I think my LO is also sleeping more than she recommends during the day and I'm wondering if I follow it to the letter if we might get longer stretches at night? Are you following it to the letter?

Thanks in advance!

X

BuntyCollocks · 27/02/2013 04:44

lost not right away! It took a good few tries

Lostbobbles · 27/02/2013 05:33

Thanks Bunty and Mama, will get DH to keep trying.

Totally jinxed myself by the getting somewhere comment, had horrendous night. Think I have the 6 week growth spurt on my hands which combined with the wind turbine in her stomach is resulting in all night cot party for 2 HmmHmmHmmHmmyawnnn

happyhow · 27/02/2013 09:10

Lost, I think we're having the 6 week growth spurt too. The last 2 days B has been attached to my boobs almost constantly although he is still sleeping for long periods at night.

Off to a baby group this morning...

mrsbugsywugsy · 27/02/2013 11:25

hello all,

dd seems to have gone back to feeding every 3 hours at night. she has been really grumpy for the last few days and seems to spend most of her waking hours crying.Sad

however she is making up for it by starting to smile Smile . one cheesy grin and a whole night of crying is forgiven.

we took her to visit my parents at the weekend. she did well in the car, slept for most of the 4 hour journey and we only stopped once for food. we left early in the morning to avoid hitting traffic on the m25. the best thing was that as dp can't drive he agreed to get up in the night all weekend and do everything except the actual feeding, so i wouldnt be too tired to drive. so I got lots of sleep for a change Grin and he spent the weekend complaining about being tired.

mrsbugsywugsy · 27/02/2013 11:36

lost we are using avent ones.

tommee tippee stuff seems to be cursed for us- I couldn't use their breast pump, and now dd won't take their dummies.

mrsbugsywugsy · 27/02/2013 11:41

birdies at my 6 week check the Dr checked dd over quite carefully but only asked me if everything was OK. which is odd thinking about it, as the receptionist asked if I wanted a woman doctor as she would be examining my stitches etc.

tinkletinklestar · 27/02/2013 12:11

Hi all, have not been back for quite a while.

Things are still very horrific. The drs think dd has a milk intolerance so started her on a new special kind of milk which has made her worse...so 3 days of het screaming I called the peads consultant in hysterical crying and he has admitted her back into hospital..so now she is going to have a tube down her throat to test the acid coming up to see how bad the problem is.

Im at the end of my tether with the whole thing now.

BuntyCollocks · 27/02/2013 12:44

Oh tinkle :( so sorry for all the worry you're having. Big, un-mnetty hugs.

Pascha · 27/02/2013 12:47

Just back from toddler group followed by weighing clinic Hmm What a palaver! Toddler group fine but Dan was awake by the end, walked round with the pram and DS1 holding my hand to the surgery next door. DS1 decided today was a good day to lie down in the middle of the waiting room and refuse to get up, then Danny started screaming so I had to pick him up. The Nursery Nurse called us through and I had to pick DS1 (2.5stone approx) up under one arm with Dan on the other shoulder as he wouldn't stop crying, push the bloody great pram through the waiting room and into the consulting room, strip a crying baby and deal with Mr Tantrum at the same time. This is why I don't take both of them to the supermarket. Far too harrowing. Next time I'll just use the sling as I would have if I hadn't needed the carrycot for playgroup.

All good though, he is 10lb2oz now and measuring 25centile for everything.

I can tick off the 6 week PN check for me (last week)
The weight and measuring for Dan (today)
Just got the 8wk check and 1st imms to go now (next friday)

Why the hell they couldn't do it all at once I don't know.

Tinkle Nice to see you again, sorry its not going well on the milk front. Hopefully the endoscopy will show something and you can start some treatment that might work. Makes Dan's mild reflux seem normal in comparison.

DH is using the TT bottle but he's not keen so I might get the Medela bottle out of the pump box and try the Calma teat for next time if its so good.

happyhow · 27/02/2013 13:12

Well I'm clearly not destined to meet any new people with babies. Went to a group this morning to be told I had to register and that it was full so I'm now on a waiting list! I might get in after the Easter hols... Bloody ridiculous! I phoned last week to find out about it and you would've thought they'd tell me then!

We finally have all the plumbing work done in the house Smile. Plumbers left about an hour ago so just the painting to finish off which should be done in the next 2 weeks.

Tinkle, sorry you're having such a nightmare. It's horrible not knowing how to fix something for your little one. At least the hospital is taking it seriously and they can hopefully get something sorted soon.

Lostbobbles · 27/02/2013 14:46

Oh Tinkle how horrific for you and Dd, poor little beebie, it's so sad to see them in pain and be so helpless. You must be exhausted. Hope this time they can get her on right meds, milk combo. Wish her well. Xx

Happy what a palaver, must be in central baby boom ville. I have not looked into baby groups yet, keep thinking to do massage again but quite happy lazing around at home, is there no other groups or net mums meetups near you?

snowqueenrollo · 27/02/2013 17:00

can I join you? DS was due on Feb 10th but was impatient and appeared on 21st January instead....

Lostbobbles · 27/02/2013 17:12

Welcome snow

DD2 drank out of dr browns Grin the calma has joined the ever increasing pile in waste of money cupboard. I think she doesn't have a deep enough latch due to my power wash boobs.

octanegirl · 27/02/2013 21:43

My Ewan arrived today. After three weeks of him crying non stop like clockwork from 7pm till 1030pm, he's finally asleep. It took 90 minutes of him crying, me soothing, him crying again, but he's now asleep. I think Ewan helped. Thank goodness, as my back and shoulders are so sore from carrying him over my right shoulder (the only place he'd settle).

MarasmeAbsolu · 27/02/2013 22:54

Ewan is a star!

Lost - calma teats sell very well on ebay!!

happyhow · 27/02/2013 22:58

I've found another one on a thurs but can't go for the next few weeks. I didn't really know about net mums but my friend told me about that today so going to look into it. Also got info on baby cinema screenings to see if I can do something I enjoy as well as meeting people! Down for a baby massage group too but it doesn't start til April 15th.

I've just woken B to give him an extra little feed in the hope he'll sleep longer tonight. Fingers crossed...

Lost, at least you've now found a bottle. I need to get hubby to persevere with getting B to take a bottle from him otherwise I'll never get out!

Octane, glad something has worked!

Welcome snow!!
