DD is also a phone addict.
I'm not sure whether to go with it in the hope that she will eventually get bored ( hopefully before any phones get broken) or to make it a forbidden thing so she never gets to touch them but they remain a fascinating enigma.
I bought her a toy mobile today after her face lit up when I showed it to her in the shop. The label was removed in the shop before I gave it to her. Cue - minor tantrum - didn't want the phone. Just the label.
I give up.
Haven't heard the Cockney "Eeloaoa" (Hello) for the past few days but tonight she said "Dada" when she heard DH coming home from work.
Cute Smile

Hi all, glad everyone is well? Can't believe babies are going to be one soon! it's gone so quickly.

What are you doing for their first bday?

i really wanted to do a big party but we've been given the end of May as a guide to when we'll complete on our new house (which is a bit of a mess), Alternatively just a bbq with my family and take him to the farm or something a bit quiter.

Silly really but i feel guilty doing something quiteish for his 1st bday, but what with the house move etc things are going to be hectic and money a bit tight. I know that he won't know though.

Things are getting much harder work now ds2 is on the move, he's crawling everywhere, up the stairs, walking around furniture and generally being a mummies boy Grin, plus running around after a v. demanding 3 year old

Yeah time has flown the last year Sad...DD is the same, into everything and has just learnt how to climb the stairs today LOL I couldn't work out how she had managed to get my purse as I was sure I had put it 3 stairs up (out of reach)..till I watched her climb the 1st step Shock..!!! Need to find a babygate that is for a curved bannister now..!

DD's 1st birthday will be a quiet one as well myermay..our choice as dh or I don't want some big do...tbh a big do would drive me mad...at least she will gets lots of attention from close friends and family..!! I wouldn't feel guilty about it,you can celebrate how you want, thats all that matters.

So who's the 1st to reach 1..?? DD is 16th May..

Well all ok at this end although tonight I feel a little down Sad. I have been to my parents today and for some reason looking at my old room actually made me cry..Mum's always kept it as "my room" but for some reason I remembered being home and how much I did actually love it (although at the time I am sure I didn't make this known..) Mum made me some butties today and cut them into 4's...again reminded me that I am someones "little" but grown up girl... Think I am going mad!!! Suppose having dd makes you think..

Oh Shhh, sorry you're feeling down Sad I know what you mean about still being someones child... I guess I didn't really know how much my parents love me and my brothers until I had my own children. It sounds mad doesn't it?

I've been thinking about how to celebrate DS2's birthday and i think we've also decided on something small, maybe a BBQ or something, but I also feel guilty about not really doing anything for DS1's birthday in January this year Sad so I think we'll just invite some of his friends from school instead of the whole class like I wanted! Grin

Well DS2 climbed out of his cot at the weekend Shock I joked to DH that we'll have to get a lid for it...

And he's not the first baby to be 1, he was born 17th May Smile

DD was born on 18/5/05 so isn't the 1st to turn 1. But she was the smallest at 5lb4oz.
Her name is Imogen Grace and I've just noticed that Preggers had a baby on the same day with the same name!
What a gorgeous bunch of names everyone chose.

Happy Easter everyone.

Well, were off!!!! Luca has decided that he is going to walk, been walking round furniture for the last 2 months and taking steps on his own, but yesterday he was walking every where.

He also loves the phone, we gave him an old mobile to play with but he still wants ours or tries to get the house phone.

He also loves the keyboard of the pc we have to take it off the desk when we are not using it and put it up high. He knows how to click the mouse aswell, (do you think we spend to much time on the pc??)

And he loves pressing buttons, keeps turning the ntl box on and off, thinks its bloody hillarious especially when the kids are watching cartoons, and they go after him and he crawls away very fast laughing and squeeling. and he has discovered the on off button on the tv!!!

And he can climb the stairs, yesterday Id sorted out a hall cupboard and put loads of papers and letters on the stairs thingking they were safe, I was wrong, all over the floor ripped and chewed!!!

We also have a 7th tooth.

Hi all - it will take me ages to catch up with all that's been going on.
Thanks for the stats Maddison - hadn't realised dd2 shared a birthday with both northstar's and claudi's babies.
DD2 still just at the cruising stage, like others we get the odd ta, and she's mad about phones, kitchen cupboards and plugs. Great sense of humour although a bit wild at times. Total nutcase in the swimming pool - fear isn't a word she knows.
Haven't organised anything for her birthday yet - will probably be low key.
Off to check on the duck that's decided to nest below my window here.

Hello all. Do still read this but don't post so much.

Not walking yet here but semi-cruising and loves her push-a-long walker thing. Dreadful sleeper (See my thread about neighbour shouting "Shut that baby up" Angry). Think her 3rd tooth is just poking through. Still breasfeeding but want to stop at 12 months. Well, that's the plan - ha!
Good eater except cous cous and avacado (not together) have been given short shrift. And still too light to go into 2nd stage car seat - aarrgh!

And plan low-key birthday as well whilst I can still get away with it.

Hi all!

Sorry you are feeling down Shhh Sad.

It's nice to see some of the earlier posters!

Dd is cruising around the furniture, eating everything in sight. She has two teeth at last! Yay. I am going to send in her birthday card to cbeebies soon, I hope they will show it.

I had a lovely day off on Monday, went to a health spa with two friends. Fantastic break. I have decided to go back to work full-time and then I'm going to treat myself to a spa membership.

Hi Everyone, Wow nearly one already!!

Sorry your are feeling down SHHHH, I've been feeling a little strange that a year has passed already. DS is climbing everything but not walking or cruising yet. He still mainly says da da da and not much else but he has a wicked laugh and says that one sylable with so much expression that it's worth a thousand words.

We are having 6 babies and parents from the antenatal group over to ours for a bbq to celebrate their first birthdays together. We are doing a present thing like a secret santa where we all buy one unisex present for a tenner and then take a lucky dip for each baby. Everyone is bringing a different item of food so it will be nice and easy for us.

I've got quite a big bump already and the sickness is gone...it's that lovely middle bit hooray!

Hi cab and Tinker, its nice to hear from you both. xx

Booge, glad you are feeling better and all is well with bump baby. I had hear that you do tend to show quicker with other babies. Think it's because your body has already accomodated 1 baby before iykwim.

Looks like most of us are having quiet 1st parties. Well dh is 30 at end of april and I have arranged for us to go to Marbella for surprise hols..we are away the week before dd's 1st b'day so it will be easier for us to have a quiet one.

Hope everyone is having a nice easter so far and I hope you are enjoying the hols esp with dh/dp if they are off. DH is off to the match..think I may go out with dd for a walk.

Hi all

I've been feeling really down for the last few weeks, mainly due to breastfeeding Sad I mentioned a while ago that DS2 will only fall asleep at the breast and tbh I'm really fed up with it. This might not make any sense, but I don't mind breastfeeding, it's the sucking for comfort that I don't like. In fact, I hate it. It's so irritating that I have regularly sat and cried while trying to get him to sleep. It wouldn't be so bad if I only had to do it once a night but when I have to do it 3-4 times a night (and thats even before we go to bed) it's so infuriating. Oh, and he started waking early too.

And while I'm on with a rantathon, why do people always choose to phone after they have put their kids to bed not thinking that mine are asleep too?

YM, I haven't got any chocolate Sad however the kids have loads, I may have to pinch a bar or 2 LOL!!

Happy Easter everyone Smile

Hi Maddison,
well as I write this (with 1 finger) DH is stuck to my nipple so that she gets an afternoon sleep. She has been refusing the last few days and certainly would not last from 11am til 7pm without.
So I do sympathise although of course being woken several times a night is a completely different kettle of fish I know Smile.
The only suggestion I can offer is to try the cc or a gentler version if you don't like the idea of the full on cc. It worked really well for us (until now that is Smile).
You must be pretty knackered waking up several times over-night.
Hope it gets better really soon.
I'm sure the kids won't mind sharing a bit of choccy with you Smile

maddison Sad.... I stopped bf dd at around 5 months mainly because she started to nip me and become a bit controlling while feeding iykwim, so I can't imagine how it is for you. BUT I do know that to be feeding several times during the night is not fun.

Mmmmmmm, how about offering him a bottle of water..? If he seems to be sucking for comfort and not feed then maybe you could try that..?? If you do this during the times when you know he isn't hungry then maybe he will get to the stage where he thinks why bother when all I get is water..? lol..!! I presume you have tried to express milk so that you or dh can give it that way..??
If all fails then I would try ym suggestion of cc. I haven't done cc myself yet BUT dd should finally be in her own room this weekend so I think this is where the fun starts Sad.

Firstly though, you need to "borrow" Wink a bar of choc and have a bit of me time before you tackle anything.!! Maybe try offering water instead of breast during the day to try and get him onto the idea iykwim..Sorry if I am telling my granny to suck eggs Blush..

DD has woken up to 6 easter eggs and 2 toys..! She laughed at every egg/tou we found.!! Easter bunny had been busy!! LOL he had even used our toilet Wink.

Hows everyone today..? Ym went to say what are you dong up at 5.30am but realised you are in another time zone..!!

Thanks for the advice YM & Shhh.

I'm not keen on the idea of cc, so on Sunday night i bf him until he started getting drowsy then put him in his cot - he was still 'awake' enough to realise that this was not normal and obviously he cried but I just rubbed his back and stroked his hair and hey presto! within 2 mins he was asleep! He did wake a bit later, around 10pm but did the same again. Have done the same again tonight and so far (touch wood!) I haven't heard another peep out of him. I know all the childcare guru's would say this isn't the way to do it, I suppose I'm just trying to make it a little more gentle for all involved ie less distressing for DS2, not waking DS1 and not subjecting DH & I to this awful noise for hours on end Wink I'm also hoping that the feeds will lessen over time and eventually dwindle to nothing, maybe I'm just fooling myself but for now this method seems to be working. Fingers crossed! On the whole though I've been much happier for the last 2 days Smile

YM - I think you meant DD, not DH Smile

DS2 has now taken to drinking his bathwater with his bath toys Shock They never cease to amaze me... Grin

I think that you're right about perhaps trying to remove the "prop" of needing to feed to get him to sleep. Hopefully, stroking and patting will be less enticing to wake up for if he's not going to be getting a feed.
Good luck, let us know how you went overnight.
PS when we did CC there was only 20 mins of crying the first time and less each time for about 3 days in total. I know that some babies do take longer and I guess we did it at 6 months, so it could be a different story at 11 months.
There's always "pick-up/put-down" that the Baby Whisperer advocates. I'm not sure how successful this is though.

Hi Maddison, I hope its still going well. i had a problem with dd a couple of months ago when she would keep waking to be cuddled and would only go to sleep in my arms, did controlled whinging, where I picked her up if she was crying, but just stayed near and rubbed her back every few minutes while she was whinging, worked for us. Now when she occaisinally stirs, or gets stuck horizontally across her cot (do others do this?) she usually goes back to sleep with just a rub on her back. She was up last night though, she's got a cold and I think tooth no. 5 is breaking through. dd also has far too many easter eggs, some people gave her cute summer clothes and shoes, which is great, but think she may need help with her easter eggsWink. She also likes hot cross buns now!

Report
SHHHH · 18/04/2006 15:42

littleb..yes dd also get stuck in her cot horizontal.. Dh or I used to move her but we give up as not long aftre she is back in the same position.
Of all the space in her cot she usually ends up sleeping "twisted" as the top or bottom end all scrunched up! We now leave her. She seems comfy enough.

Yeah some people also bought dd things other than eggs...but she still ended up with 8 eggs..! Shock. More than dh & I combined..Oh well she obviously needs help eating em.!! Grin...My sister bought her some items for an easter tree. Never heard of em but suppose it's something we will have to continue!. BTW dd also loves hot x buns and also fruit loaf..!

Hi all, well this sleeping technique seems to be working so far. On Mon night DS2 only cried for a couple of minutes when I put him in his cot and last night & tonight he didn't cry at all!!! And he only woke once last night at around 10:30pm and lasted until 6:30am so I feel much better after a good nights sleep Smile So fingers crossed that this continues!

LittleB - thanks for your comments - I hope your DD feels better soon. I think it was you who advised me about the 'controlled grumbling' last time I mentioned about DS2's sleeping habits, so thank you so much for sharing them Smile DS2 also manages to creep to the top of his cot and sleeps sideways, I just leave him there and cover him up.

So far I have resisted the urge to nick any of the kids chocolates, but I'm not sure I can last out much longer!!!Grin

That's great Maddison.
You must feel so much better to get a few hours of consecutive sleep.
DD is still not walking but is now pointing at things ( everything, in fact) and said "bye bye Dada" the other day - admittedly she was mimicking what I had just said - rather than having thought of it herself but it was cute nevertheless.
Doesn't your heart just swell with pride? I never really understood what that phrase meant til now.Smile

Basically tomato and weetabix is giving me nightmares..Anyone..?
I have used an OXY clean Baby stain remover from boots and yesterday spent nearly £5 on a bottle of vanish prewash duo power...neither even touch the stain. Its a shame to throw the clothes away as some have only been worn for the 1st time. What does anyone suggest.? Call it a loss..??
