JenJam · 07/03/2006 21:15

Chacha golden's idea sounds like a good one - wish someone had thought of saving The Sun on 7th November!

my favourite piece of baby kit (which i bought for finn myeslf while i was wandering around in a dreamy like state and imagining a wonderful existence where we walk in a sunny park...ok i'll stop now) ...was a cute little cashmere baby bonnet from brora
www.brora.co.uk/Brora/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=BBON&cid=W57P-Hats&language=en-GB

he wears it all the time, it has little ear flaps that add extra cuteness and it is sooooooo soooo soft - any over protective mum would love it! its £28 i think; bit pricey but i really regard it as something special and he wears it every every day!

hmmm i smell fajitas!

oh and BAM i'm intrigued........

novadandypowder · 07/03/2006 21:42

Agree with JenJam, we got some Baby Brora stuff as a gift and it's lovely, very special.

Diege - My extended dissertation was 'An examination of identity and (theatrical) politics within representations of the female body'. It still feels very unfinished to me though and I would love to do a masters at some point.

Re: Toiletries - I will only use organic/ natural stuff from Neals Yard or Lush, for me and baby.

It seems Natalie has taken after her mother and goes into melt down if she doesn't get enough sleep during the day. She missed part of her morning nap to go to the school visit and this resulted in a 20min scream fest at yoga before I gave up and left. She then slept when we got home for 2hours, woke up for 1.5hours then went back to sleep for another hour. Same happened yesterday when I tried to meet a friend for lunch, although her baby also decided to cry so I didn't feel too bad.

JenJam · 07/03/2006 21:52

forgot to say candie-great news re: wedding and christening - look forward to seeing some photos on the yahoo site

Diege · 07/03/2006 22:01

Hi! Done a bit more work, so relaxing for a bit now before the 10.30 feed Smile. NOVA: your dissertation sounds fascinating, what subject was your degree in? Know what you mean about when they don't get enough sleep (have this problem with school run); LIbby is just past the stage when a dummy will soothe her, so every outing is potentially fraught! Are you still using your sling BTW? I am, though a screaming baby on your front is no joke Grin!!
CANDIE: sounds like a fairy-tale Smile; you must post some pictures when you get back! Thanks for tips to stay quiet..yes, I can see how this might work, though will be a tough call, as I'm usually anxious to fill in the gaps and get approval Blushto make them feel better; why, I don't know! Noticed baby had been to hairdressers with you? How did it go? Anyone else take LOs with them? Not sure if I am brave enough, though appointment did take 6 hours last time!
Well, going to catch last bit of that Gordon Ramsey thing before bed...oh,and like the balls advert RODEO, set in San Francisco, or have I got wrong one? Started thinking of how they would clean them up, them realised they were probably computer generated? (and you think you are anal Nova!)Grin.
Diege Smile.

beartime · 07/03/2006 22:03

ChaCha - how bout wednesdays so we get a good start on it? The only thing about the yahoo grp is everyone will get our weights e-mailed to them Shock

Diege - thanks for thinking about me Smile after all that he didn't wake up last night. And I think (stressing the guesswork involved here!) that it might be because he;'s got to the stage of needing less sleep in the day, cos yesterday he had shorter naptimes. So today I cut his naptimes to 2.5hrs total and will see what tonight brings. Reason I think that is because he was waking up gurgling - not crying. We'll see...but I will bear in mind your real world suggestion as it sounds more up my street Smile

beartime · 08/03/2006 07:40

sorry Diege hadn't read your 2nd post when I wrote that (got DH coming in asking where I was!) - Mon would be good too - I was just impatient Grin

Golden - thanks for what you do w/ nightime - always helps to hear the hardlinersin the real world! I had decided to let him cry but then he didn't wake up Gringlad they're sleeping for you too - why don't you try putting them to bed at 7pm then they might be more likely to sleep till 7am? With the 12 hr chance for engorgement poor Caleb has to be burped every 5 mins in the morning I guess cos flows so fast! Or else it all comes out all over me halfway thru!

BAM
If you were buying toiletries for yourself whilst pg, which brands were you most likely to buy?
none Grin
Which baby brands stand to attention to you when buying on ebay? which are you most likely to buy?
don't go on e-bay
Which brands of toiletries are you likely to buy for your baby?
I got Simple for the first few mths cos seemed the least chemical - prob will go on to Johnsons
If you want products/toiletries that are more "upmarket" than say avent/johnsons etc, what are they, how much would you be willing to spend?
thats the highest I go Grin
If you were buying for a baby shower, for a close friend, how much would you be willing to spend on a gift for that person, for their new baby? #
depends how much I liked them! £5-£30 prob.

slept thru again last night Grin

happy bday Bob!

BTW kept meaning to mention this - found out in USA that for pain relief in labour their options are epidural or NOTHING! Shock Shock What d'you think of that?!

JenJam · 08/03/2006 08:42

morning all - hope you all slept better than i did. Last night was tiring, in the end we co-slept from 3 a.m. as F kept waking and shrieking/shouting and gurgling. not in a aaah 'i'm having a nightmare kind of way' more of a 'hello i'm a little bit hungry and then I'm ready to play!!!! hello!!! hello!!! Mum? Dad? can you hear me!!!cough cough, have to resist letting him sleep today........although i wish i could.

while co-sleeping i tried patting / tapping his tummy with one finger in a rhythmic way to try to send him off to sleep every time he woke; it was not really workig at all. his arms flailing and his legs galloping reverberating through the mattress, and my brain....now notice he has taken FOUR chunks out of his face!!! i feel dreadful about that. it's finger nail time AGAIN!!

I don't mind really - after reading in the paper late last night about the couple fighting to keep their 18 month old little one on a life support machine....i went straight up to F's room to pick him up for a cuddle and an (unnecessary) feed. I just want him to be healthy and happy.

I love this weather! perfect for staying in, making phone calls, eating toast, drinking tea, dunking chocolate biscuits and watching movies. and playing with our babies.

might have to do a bit of housework / tidying up along the way.

what are you lot doing today?

Rodeo i like the bouncy ball advert too - it's BIG and it has GRAVITAS, which i suppose a new kind of tv technology ought to have. can't remember who it was for though! an American company....Sony?

JenJam · 08/03/2006 08:46

Diege - re work...i would listen to what they have to say, and have your ideal working hours all planned out. i'm going to suggest at work that we 'try out' what i think might work best for both parties; and review it after say 3 months. that way they will find it difficult to say no...at least until they try it (I am a maternity pioneer at our company)

JenJam · 08/03/2006 08:46

aaargh, i should think before i click.

BoB - happy birthday! can't wait to hear what's in the envelope!

Londoner · 08/03/2006 09:31

.......feel like I can't keep up here-sorry guys.

ChaCha, great to see pics of you, you look lovelySmile. Also great to see you beartime and everyone else's updated pics, so so sweet!

Busy, I'm afraid I'm not really a shopper - although my dh is, he loves it! - just a 'practical essentials' sort ... Blush

Beartime - re: the bf.... you've got me there, think my knowledge is actually quite shallow.... I just try and listen to my baby and combine that with following my instincts,,,,which aren't always so easy to hear in this modern world with all it's distractions.... Have never solely bf a baby to this age before as we were advised to wean from 3 months with the others- those professionals eh, always changing their minds....

•••••••• HAPPY BIRTHDAY BoB ••••••••••

SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileHave a great day!SmileSmileSmile

BEKs - hope you're all better soon you poor things!
Can't make it tomorrow as my mum is coming to see me from Brighton and haven't seen her for weeks - hope you have a great time, I'll miss seeing you allSmile.

Candi - The Big Scream show this week is ' The World's Fastest Indian' directed by Roger Donaldson and starring Anthony Hopkins. Hey, as for recognising each other, hmmmm, red carnations at the ready, gosh I don't know...... we'll have to think of something or meet outside perhaps?

babyonboard · 08/03/2006 09:40

hi all..

happy birthday Ben! Smile

hooray..my friend is coming up from canterbury to spend the day with me so i won't be all lonely...
it seems oskar has forgotten my birthday..how rude! not even a card Grin ...heheheee

shame about tomorrow londoner...but there'll be plenty of other times! given the rubbish weather and ben being ill ( and possible rosie still!) maybe we should just postpone til next week or something?

best be off..decided to brave taking O to the hairdressers with me....though what I get done depends on if he's grump or not..lol..may end up just getting a fringe trim..

babyonboard · 08/03/2006 09:41

oh saw this funny quote...

''Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!''

Diege · 08/03/2006 09:54

Morning Smile!!!and a very happy birthday to BOB and BEN!!! Smile Grin Smile. Have you had another peak at envelope? Grin; it's almost as good as having it myself to open (almost...)
Thanks JENJAM for work advice; yes, a trial sounds a good idea, esp as it makes them sound unreasonable if they refuse! Poor you with bad sleep last night Sad; I have never co-slept, just because I can never sleep with all the 'flailing' of arms and legs...it does work for some people. Had a really scary experinece with dd1 when she was a few weeks old; had BF her in bed, then we fell asleep, and in the morning she was at the bottom of the bed Shock, under the covers!!!! (not to scare you or anything; sounds like Finn is in control of where he sleeps/dances/gallops in the bed Smile).
BEAR:glad sleep pattern seems to be settling down; yes, cutting back on day sleeps is probably the solution; at least you will know then that if C wakes it can;t be becaue he's n ot tired! BTW, meant to say how cute Caleb's picturs are: real grown up hair too Smile.
Well, nail lady is due any minute for chavvy infills on my acrylics Blush; hope dd2 and dd3 are good; have the crisps at the ready!
Speak later, and happy birthday celebrations again!!!!Grin.
Diege Smile

BEKsmum · 08/03/2006 10:35

Morning girls

BOB Happy B'day to you, Happy B'Day to you, Happy B'day dear BOB, Happy B'Day to you!!!! Grin Grin Can't wait to hear what's in the envelope.

Loved the quote by the way it made me lol

Thanks for all the B'Day wishes, for Ben, I put B'day banners and balloons in his room last night after he had gone to sleep and he woke up and said "Mum, Mum I've got Happy Birthday all over my wall - Why?!!!!" [Grin] Then he remembered it was actually his B'day and ran around like a spiining top, eventually got him out the door for Pre-school, but he's finishing at lunchtime today as daddy is coming home on a half day as a surprise he thinks he's got to wait tilltonight for his pressies - so this afternoon will be all about opening pressies and eating pizza with his cousins

I'm really sorry girls but I'm not going to be able to make it tomorrow either as Thomas definitely has the lurgy and I'm up to my armpits in baby puke at the moment - thankfully he seems to be sleeping it off but he is definitely not a happy bunny - but thankfully my own lurgy seems to have disappeared.

Tex will see you on Sunday for the party though I hope? How's Rosie doing now?

Nova I'm so sorry to hear about your friends loss, there are just not enough words to express sympathy in this sort of situation are there.

Diege, hope your chat over coffee goes well & that the department merge works in your favour - whatever the outcome.
I love the balls advert too and NO they are not computer generated, they were real balls, a friend of mine works in advertising and told me all about it! They got the local kids to pick them up afterwards!!!

BAM good luck with the e-bay idea, can't give you any suggestions really as I'm not a "smellies" user really, but do like the Avent Silky Liquid Talc for Thomas as he has really smelly feet Smile but would spend about £20 on a pressie if I was buying for someone else.

Candi congratulations on the wedding and christening , hope you have a wonderful time.

Right best go and do some ironing while the house is quiet, take care for now and hi to everyone I haven't mentioned BEKs

babyonboard · 08/03/2006 10:42

how sweet beks..hope he has a lovley day! I got him a card to bring tomorrow...shall i post it to you in time for his party instead maybe, or pass it to tex if i see her before then?
hope thomas feels better soon..poor love...

tex are you up for costa tomorrow or friday?

If you reschedule the meet up, then don't make it next week please as i'll be in sheffield visiting family and friends..totally forgot about it.

can't resist that envelope..especially as it's allowed now it's my b'day....
must be patient..must be patient....

i'll come post wht it is on here when we get home tonight...heeheee

browniechick · 08/03/2006 11:06

Happy Birthday BoB & Ben!!!!!!!Grin
Candi - congrats on wedding and christening - we have got our christening in just over a weeks time! Must get christening gown to see if T fits in it!!!!
CAn't believe where time is going - back at work in 2 months! Sad would love to be SAHM - just getting ito stride with having baby & being at home, but financial reasons mean need to go back to work - also think might go a bit stir crazy if don't go back to keep my brain alive!!
Must dash, have gurgling Thomas on playmat!!!
Speak later Have good day everyone!
Brownie & Thomas
x

ChaCha · 08/03/2006 11:26

Hello girls,

Happy Birthday BoB! Hope you have a lovely day :o
Tut Tut at O not sending you a card!

Jenjam - I love your posts :) It is definitely one of those days, just texted a friend to say exactly the same. Have been taking Z's 3-6mth clothes out of the storage boxes under cot and hanging them up in his wardrobes as well as folding all his jumpers/t-shirts onto the shelving inside, bit of housework, phone calls to make & will start cooking prep (lots of visitors as of tomorrow evening until Sunday) when DH is home this evening to entertain Z. Am also still in PJ's and have no intention of getting dressed yet Blush - it's one of those cosy days.
Also woke up the other day to find chunk marks on Z's nose and forehead and one dangerously close to his eye - they disappeared quickly though, it seems as soon as i've cut them they're growing back in no time at all.

Londoner - Merci beaucoup pour le compliment :) On the shopping front, am v.much like your DH.

Golden - Thank you for the pressie idea. Would never have thought of that and I'm definitely going to do it - cheers! Just toying with whether to make box myself or buy something nice.

Beartime - Wednesday - that's today!!

Londoner · 08/03/2006 12:06

babyonboard · 08/03/2006 12:32

hi all..
i managed to get a trim at the hairdrsser, then oskar was yelling and despite one of the ladies jiggling him around he persisted so I decided to get a cab home with semi wet hair..
now will shower all the gunk they put on off and style it myself..lol..

very excited as my friend has booked us for lunch at the oxo tower brasserie..got to be there for 2 so should go get ready..hoorah!

JenJam · 08/03/2006 12:45

Hello not much happening here today

Apart from of course birthday Ben and birthday BoB - i have had 3 blue ribands to celebrate with you Grin. you can thank me later

Strange thing happened. was in kitchen talking to C* (i've ommitted her name to protect her hehe), the ironing lady who was here for her monthly visit - she does bedsheets and James's shirts, anyway embarrassed to say that while we were gassing in the kitchen i forgot all about finn who was lying in the lounge under the gym. he was sooooo quiet and i was so engrossed in conversation that i forgot I had him! I almost put my coat on to go out to the green grocers!!! without him!!! can you imagine!!! don't tell the HV please please please.

Have to say though C's news was jaw dropping...She turned upt his morning looking a bit fed up and teary, so i asked her how she was knowing that she wasn't okay. She said she 'thinks' she's pregnant. She's 39 and it was a complete surprise she mentioned it to her 53 year old hubby this morning and he told her 'to get out and get rid of it' this morning. she doesn't want to (catholic and already a mum - and clearly knows what she would be missing iyswim) she already has a 4.5 year old daughter. She hasn't got alot of money, and relies on him for £££ and has to wait for doctors pregnancy test which is scheduled for Friday, but its killing her to know...but she doesn't want to waste the cash. so, thinking about it now don't know if it is the right thing to do, but I had a tenner in my pocket, which i was only going to spend in starbucks, so i said i'll get you a pregnancy test if you would like to know sooner. so we did one. and she is. then we sat at the kitchen table while she smiled, then cried, then smiled again.

then there was a little 'wwwwahhh' translation: 'don't forget about me, mum'!

just spent 20 minutes chasing a small fly around the lounge with my copy of practical parenting.

okay better go before i bore you all to death with my ramblings chit chat gossip

'the mummies on the bus go chitter chatter chitter chatter ALL. DAY. LONG.'

JenJam · 08/03/2006 12:50

BoB oxo tower - you lucky thing. are you going to have champagne and wine with your lunch?
i hope so

Diege · 08/03/2006 12:58

Afternoon! Smile; BOB, sounds like you have a lovely day planned, can't wait to hear what's in the envelope!
JENJAM: I think you did exactly rhe right thing Smile; how very kind and thoughtful of you; it probably helped C loads just knowing she had someone else apart from her brute of a husband to talk it through with Smile.
BEKS, Ben is a lucky boy - make sure you have a big slice of pizza for me Grin; so the balls are real! well, am relieved that they were all picked up; I have rather 'Monk'-like tendencies (anyone else watch it?), not that you'd know looking round my house Grin.
Hi to everyone else I haven't mentioned! I going to find out when to meet with personnel woman today, so can then hatch my cunning plan!
Diege Smile

babyonboard · 08/03/2006 13:04

lol..jenjam...for sure! my friend jasmin is preg so only a spritzer for her, so she can take care of O if I get tipsy..bring on the kir royales! lol..(god i hve such 80's tastes..hehee)

gosh, crazy ironing lady story..i love a bit of gossip even wen i don't know the person involved..bit Shock at her husbands reaction though, hope it all works out

our damn shower isn't working again, so I've tried to blowdry the hair clippings off myself and put a few heated rollers in..sure I'll look great, hehee!
'treating' myself to a black cab to the south bank..lol..know it's more xpensive than a minicab but they always feel more 'proper' iyswim...
