hubbard86 · 19/07/2012 13:15

Right I've been a bit naughty and haven't been in mumsnet in ages and haven't really got time to catch up properly atm.
Deb well done on 7st I've only lost 4 so far but I think that's mostly down to stress and not having time to eat.
Reastie yay to Alice learning to use a hanky, freya likes playing peek a boo bogey by blowing and sniffing she is a vile little creature really.
Boo to all the people and babies feeling vile.

I'm doing ok I actually seem to be getting a little bit of balance in my life. It is so hard sometimes doing it all on my own but I'm getting there. Exdh has buggered off again and not been bothered with them for over a week now which is the 4th time he has done it. I am now refusing to allow it to happen again as I can't allow him to keep letting them down. I feel like a complete bitch but Tom is so messed up at the moment and really doesn't understand. I hate seeing him hurting so am refusing to allow him back into their lives until he gets his priorities straight and can prove that he can actually be bothered to put the effort in.

ILovePonyo · 19/07/2012 13:23

Hi people, well I think that A and Dilly have been talking as A was awake for the day at 5am Hmm Pest! I took her to the docs at 9.30, we had to wait 20mins for our appointment and she cuddled up to me and had a sleep in the waiting room Shock She is asleep again now too. I'm hoping that she might need more sleep in the day as she's not really been sleeping at nursery, I think shes a bit too excited now shes in the toddler room Grin
Doc has prescribed some drops so I'll give a go later but said not to worry, its not serious.

reastie hope A is better soon and you have a better night tonight. Its depressing when you try and do 'proper' activities just for them to whinge isnt' it, at least if they're you can think theres a reason and it wasn't the activities being boring (or is that just me?!)

american haha, oh yes I remember the "oh shit" feeling when I got home with A - and thinking "the hospital are going to trust me to look after this tiny person?" Well done with the clearing out, your local charity shop must love you Grin

Better go and do something productive whilst the beast naps, back later

ILovePonyo · 19/07/2012 13:25

x post hubbard sorry to hear about your exp, poor Tom hes such a sweet little boy, he doesn't deserve this. I did Grin at F being called a vile little creature though Grin

reastie · 19/07/2012 13:44

Hi hubbard I'm glad you're getting some balance back, although, tbh I'm a bit Shock at how any single mother out there can have balance - you have so much respect from me for everything you're doing. It must be so hard on poor Tom if he can't understand what's going on and I'm so Angry at your xdh for not understanding this.

ponyo Shock to anya sleeping in the gp waiting room - can't ever imagine alice doing that she'd be too busy moaning or trying to run around everywhere

Well, the tissue usage was too good to last it seems as she's been wiping her nose with her sleeve all morning Shock . Massive bad mood to everything and she's started saying 'yes' but it sounds exactly the same as 'no' so I have no idea what she says or means most of the time Confused . Went to Laura Ashley this morning to pick up a storage box for the play room (which with hindsight I'm thinking pretty patterned cardboard boxes to keep messy play equipment in may not have been my best idea...but that's by the by) and I had to go upstairs to get to their homeware section but they didn't have a lift and I knew getting her out of the buggy would cause problems as she would never go back in it again once she had a taste of freedom...and I was right - massive screaming fit when I put her back in the buggy and big glares from the shop assistants and an old biddy in there Angry

I'm Grin at all these cats enjoying bath time. I've only experience of 3 cats in my family and none of them have enjoyed sitting by the bath Hmm

Gtg - Alice napping (at last) so my chance to read 50 shades do some cleaning

NeedToSleepZZZ · 19/07/2012 15:12

Hello all!

Good to hear from you Hubbard, you also have my utmost respect for how you're dealing with this. It is dreadful to think that someone can behave so badly towards their own child but t and f have you to look up to and adore and what a role model you are to them. Glad to see some pics of you with your friends on fb too, you deserve to have some fun as well Grin

All this talk about cats and baths brings back memories of my old cat buckley, she used to sit on the edge and try to catch my toes, then fall in and scratch me trying to escape! I do miss her though.

Ponyo, glad A had some drops, how is she taking to them though ? I love the fact she's so excited about being in the toddlers room now, how did they get so big?

Deb, wowsers! That is an incredible amount of weight, 10 dress sizes!!! You are fantastic! Sorry you're feeling so grim though, have you tried some frozen yoghurt to try and cool your throat? Apparently it works quite well. Such good news about chloe, poor little mite, so pleased she's at home now. How is your sis doing?

I've been poorly this week, still in bed now and don't know what's up. Having period from hell though to accompany it which is nice Hmm. Haven't eaten since Monday morning and still not up to it, I know it won't last though.

We've had an email about B appearing in the ad for tiny talk and need to sign some paperwork so he might actually be shown in it! I'm praying they don't use the clip of him signing biscuit and please though as he's in my messy kitchen and it would be very Blush
Oh, I didn't mention it before but OH committed the cardinal sin of cutting bens hair after I'd said no, all his baby curls have gone. I was so furious with him and he's been apologetic ever since and vowed not to go near his hair again, he's given him a bob fgs Angry I know it'll grow back so have calmed down a bit but I miss those curls Sad

blizy · 19/07/2012 15:56

ponyo I'm glad you got something for Anya's eye, hope it clears up soon.

hubbard Lovely to hear from you. You X is a complete arse for doing that to his children! You are doing a fantastic job, Tom and Freya will always remember that.

needto Sorry you are ill Sad, hope you get better soon. I would be so angry if my dh attacked any of my childrens hair.

reastie Yikes to the tantrum in LA, I HATE trying to squeeze a toddler into pram when they are doing the whole back arching thing. We got a beautiful butterfly box from LA to use as Zoe's memory box.

My two mindees are fast asleep on the couch, I'm thinking this play scheme thing is tiring them out. Grin
I have a bit of a problem (seems to happen every summer holiday), the boys i mind are 8 and 9 and they smell, really bad. It is really horrid, and my downstairs and car are both reeking because of them. How the hell do I approach this one? Their Dad is the sole carer, I have a feeling they dont bath as they have no school (so no sunday night bath iyswim). I don't have this problem during term time.

OP posts:
ILovePonyo · 19/07/2012 20:06

Well we managed to get some drops in A's eyes no problem Shock she winced and rubbed them but didn't cry - amazing! She slept for 2 hours this afternoon as well as her nap at docs, then went to bed looking shattered, maybe she needs to catch up on sleep?!

reastie I was amazed she fell asleep on me too, she just curled up like a little monkey, she never does that at home Shock Oh dear to the massive tantrum, its even worse when you know its coming isn't it!

Needto get well soon lovely. Let us know about B being famous! I saw the pic of his hair on fb, please tell me your dp at least kept the little curls he chopped off?

blizy ooooh tough one. Would you be able to say to dad something like "I don't want to worry or embarrass you, but I think the boys are getting a bit smelly - do you think they need a bath time routine?" ugh now I've written that down it looks wrong, erm good luck eh!

wigglesrock · 19/07/2012 20:40

ponyo glad you got A sorted out at the Drs. Sofia had eyedrops last year, she was such a big drama queen over it - it turned into the episode from Friends where they try to get eyedrops into Rachels' eyes Grin

blizy oh its difficult, especially as I'm assuming its the dad of the boys you sometimes have a problem with! Could you say something along the lines of "Oh the boys are starting to grow up so quickly, you can really tell when boys are reaching puberty in the summer, what with the smelly man smell"

Hubbard lovely to hear from you, you are not being a bitch, please don't even think that - you need to put Tom and Freya first xx

NeedToSleep yay to famous B, I'm very heartless about hair Blush, when each of the girls have had their first haircut my hairdressers asked me if I wanted some of it - I think my look of "no you're alright" deemed me to the bad Mothers group Grin But mine have never had curls Envy

We had a lovely day today, took all 4 girls to a park by the sea, had a lovely walk and they had chips (well not Emma but Anna ate her share Grin)

ILovePonyo · 19/07/2012 20:50

Grin at S wiggles, I thought it would be like that today! Your day sounds very nice as always, lucky Emma getting to do fun day trips with Auntie wiggles and co!

blizy · 19/07/2012 22:27

Grin at the smelly man smell. Wiggles your day sounds lovely, I wish I lived close to the sea Sad.

Ponyo- glad you got the drops in ok. I hope A isn't coming down with something.

We were at fils for dinner, we were told we were having chicken, rice and veg. We had chicken nuggets and stinky lemon flavoured rice with about 3 peas each! Nice. I remember one time he was all proud that he had made us guacamole for fajitas, he presented mashed up cucumber as guacamoleGrin.

I really don't know what to do about the smell, I mean what parent wants to be told they have honking kids? I may just have to grin and bear it for the next 4 weeks.Hmm

OP posts:
reastie · 20/07/2012 07:25

blizy I remember in a staff meeting years ago the then gung ho head made some comment about 'every teacher has had to tell a student they smell at some point' and shrugged Shock - I never have Hmm ! All I can say is could you do activities with them that made them really dirty (like something involving mud) and then get them to clean up the obvious dirt on themselves so you look like a caring careful CM but when the Dad comes back tell him they got quite messy and muddy so will need a bath tonight (in a casual way). Although I can see this wouldn't work every day. Maybe you should post a thread somewhere on mn about it - sure they'd be lots of good ideas people would come up with who have dealt with this before. He may well be mortified if he knew/realised and it may be putting their little friends off seeing them so would be best for everyone if he knew.

Is ledkr off on holiday now?

ponyo glad the drops went in well. Honestly - we couldn't even get calpol in Alice last night (her mouth obv, not her eye Wink ) so goodness knows how you managed the eye drops. Love wiggles story about like Rachel from friends Grin

Was going to go to toddler swim this morning - last one of the term, but think I may avoid it if Alice is still moany and coldy. Please let her be in a better mood today

deb and needto how are you?

needto wow - Ben being famous in a video eh?! I bet you're kitchen isn't messy in the background, and even if it were I don't think people would really notice. That fb video I put up of Alice dancing I nearly didn't put on as it was taken as I was cooking and the floor had loads of food on it as I hadn't post dinner swept it yet but it was just too good to be worried by this

blizy · 20/07/2012 07:32

Hope Alice is good today reastie. I can't really plan any activities for them, i only have them for an hour and 30 mins of that is taken up by travelling back from play scheme/school, snack, changing clothes etc. so really they have 30 mins of free time with me, they like to spend it chilling with a book/tv or recently sleeping!
Yeah, ledkr is away on holiday, think she went on Wesnesday.
Wink

ILovePonyo · 20/07/2012 07:32

Grin at blizys remanding dinner last night, it sounds gross! Did you get a takeaway on the way home Wink let us know if you think of a solution for stinky boys, it's a tough one

Reastie hope A is better today. Do you get any nice end of term presents from the children when school finishes? Just seen a thread about it, dp doesn't get anything it's do annoying Grin

Well A woke at 4.30, I de-gunked her eyes and gave her a bottle, she went back to sleep til 5.45 Sad I hope she stops this nonsense soon!
I've watched some right random crap this morning on cbeebied, baby jake anyone?! What is that about Hmm

ILovePonyo · 20/07/2012 07:33

Oh that's meant to say random not remanding Hmm

reastie · 20/07/2012 07:51

ponyo I don't really get anything from students - I'm not a form tutor and only part time so people don't bother with me Sad . I do tend to get things from my y11 students though - this year I got a big tin of biccies and a bottle of wine. Think it's more the primary teachers (or secondary teachers who work in particularly naice schools) who get everything. BTW Alice loves baby jake but it does rather freak me out. I find 'come outside' hillarious - I remember my sister used to love it circa 18 years ago - it looks so dated now!

onmehols · 20/07/2012 08:13

Bonjour all. We are in sunny france after some long driving. The girls were great so long as we had frequent stops which was easy as france has so many areas which have loos and space to run around. My brothers house is an old style french stone cottage, its amazing, all oak beams etc. Bit spidery though shudders. The garden is massive the girls just play out all day,we are off to merlins woods today for a picnic and a walk;i feel very relaxed which is an unfamiliar feeling lol.
I have caught up a bit so just want to say hubbard my ex is the same, just keep telling yourself that its you who can make this ok for them, dont give his behaviour too much thought just be a great parent and they will be fine. Give them consistency and lots of love cos in the end it will be you who deals with messed up kids not him so be selfish and make it easy on yourself. i loved being on my own and i am so close to my kids its untrue.
deb i cant believe how much weight you have lost its amazing,i am well jel, well done. I will try to pop in from time to time to say hi.

onmehols · 20/07/2012 08:14

name changed for obvious security reasons dont out me btw xx

blizy · 20/07/2012 08:45

I'm going to out you onmyhols. I know you are a big fat hairy trucker, and now so does everyone else GrinWink.

OP posts:
debka · 20/07/2012 12:34

Howdy all,

ponyo that's grimsville, hope you got back to sleep after the 4.30 wake up.

needto what video is it that Ben the genius is in?

onmehols good to hear from and your hairy hands hope you're having a tres jolie time Grin

reastie how's Alice today? My 2 seem fine now (fx) Am typing this whilst watching Aunt Mabel- BEST porogramme on telly imo, have you seen the one in the sewage works? Shock

blizy re smelly kids. Speaking as the keeper of a Smelly House (remember all that?) I would say have a quiet word with the dad, just in a kind sympathetic, non judgy way- he will be grateful I'm sure.

I was in bed yesterday Shock with my more tonsils, gp gave me some antibiotics and after a morning in bed yesterday and starting the abs I feel a lot better today but honestly, I felt dreadful. DH has now come down with the tonsillitis but he's already on abs due to a weirdy eye infection- not just conjunctivitis, it's really nasty, gp is sending him up to the hospital I think.

Went to a toddler group today, normally there are about 10-12 kids, today there were 23 , was mental! I think it's because the schools have broken up now.

americanexpat · 20/07/2012 15:57

Ponyo - that's grim. Sad Fingers crossed her eyes and sleep are better tonight.

reastie - I admit I look at the background in photos and videos and expect other people to do the same to mine. [nosy] Most of my FB photos have been judiciously cropped. Grin How's Alice today?

blizy - I agree, have a quiet word with the father. Maybe phrase it as they're not cleaning well enough in the bath, rather than they're just not bathing?

hubbard - Poor Tom, it just breaks my heart. Sad It's your job to protect them, do what you need to do!

Ponyo - sadly, most of it went straight into the recycling bag. Blush I can't believe I was wearing such tatty clothing. Blush They do have a sizeable pile though but most will probably go into the recycling as well.

It's L's last day at his nursery. The manager is going to another nursery so it'll be the last time we see her. Sad The rest of the staff will be moving to the new nursery so we'll still see them.

reastie · 20/07/2012 19:04

Hi all,

Thanks for your wondering re: Alice - she's been very moany and hard work but I think a bit better than yesterday. Took her to a local garden centre to get out of the house [desperate] and she had another screaming fit when I wouldn't let her have a pair of crocs Confused Shock . She's not too bad so long as I do exactly what she wants when she wants it the second she decided to want something even if I have no idea what it is Confused . Let's just say cbeebies has been on alot today. DH also in a awful mood - I realise I'm lucky to get a DH home at a decent hour but DH half the time is home by 5, which means I can cook tea for us all when he's back in time for our dinner time of 5:30. I ask him if he's going to be late to ring me so I know I won't be able to cook whatever I had planned as it's impossible to cook with Alice around and pre tea moany. He rung after 5pm today to tell me he would be late Hmm and didn't turn up till we had finished our tea. I don't mind him being late but I get so Angry he doesn't realise what an impact it has on me and doing dinner when he doesn't tell me until after he's due home. He bit my head off when I told him this. I'm hoping it's just annoyance as he knows I'm right. I know I am prob BU but I don't care.

american must be odd re: L's last day at nursery - is this because they are closing down for a few weeks and you ahve to go to the one in the town centre or have I got really muddled?

onmehols nope, I have no idea who on earth you are Wink

deb Shock to how ill you felt, but glad you're a bit better, well, assuming you're feeling a bit better if you managed playgroup. Shock to how busy it was - I had a gym class with alice like that one week - just freakishly busy with loads more people than really the room could accommodate. Btw love that you're a fellow Aunt Mabel and Pippin watcher. We saw one the other day where she went to the rubbish dump Hmm

debka · 20/07/2012 19:52

Is that the one where Pippin gets lost reastie? Imy hates that one! Glad A was a bit better today. S is a bit like that but I don't really pay her any attention, and she's fairly easily distracted still. I don't think YABU re dinner, if you've told him what helps you and he doesn't do it, it's not on really.

expat how long will L be in the new nursery beofre you return to the States?

There's NOTHING on telly tonight, I'm reduced to some weirdy thing about a storm Hmm any suggestions?

wigglesrock · 20/07/2012 20:11

debka and reastie I was traumatised the first time I watched Pippin get lost at the dump - Sofia was a big fan Grin I hadn't watched childrens tv before I had Sofia and I thought "is it a new fangled invention to have very cute dogs be squashed to teach children a lesson?" Grin

reastie Again I will say to you - this is why I don't cook Grin, we don't eat until after 7.30ish anyway so we're lucky enough that A is in bed and the other two are upstairs pretending to get ready for bed!

debka all our toddler groups don't run in the summer for that very reason!

onmehols qui? Grin, glad you are getting the chance to relax xx

TV is pants tonight, considering having an early night with Mr W Wink that'll kill about 10 mins!

We are heading off for a day trip with the girls tomorrow - we let Sofia and Olivia pick - I was hoping for the zoo - I love the gift shop animals but they both voted for the Giants Causeway, which is lovely but the shop is crap Shock Oh but A and I might meet some nice Spanish tourists again. Sofia has also decided that she would like to walk the whole way down, Olivia is taking the bus Grin, my Dad used to make us walk down instead of getting the lovely little bus, sometimes I wonder at Sofias outdoorseyness and general athleticism and think "really?" Grin

reastie · 20/07/2012 20:27

wiggles they have a bus on the giants causeway? Shock I'm hoping there's a special road for it as otherwise it would be incredibly bumpy Wink

deb yes it was the one where pippin got lost but it was all right in the end of course. I love how she goes to random factories etc and has a go at everything - one of these days they'll be one where she goes off to hospital to learn to operate on someone or some such Grin . It all just seems a bit random though - an old auntie living in a bungalow with a v clever dog and they have an aeroplane outside her back garden and go off finding out about everything.

DH gone to bed early avec headache so maybe that explains the massive bad mood no excuse to be rude though . wiggs I wish I could not cook but a) I feel too much guilt and b) my pesky restricted diet means I can't get that much preprepared foods and c) when I do get stuff it usually upsets my IBS - I'm a very tricky case you know (words of my GP Wink ). Enjoy your 10 mins with Mr W's Wink [nudge] .

blizy · 20/07/2012 20:35

10 mins Shock my "early night" only lasts for 5 minsGrinWink.

I'm Grin at the "come outside@ chat. I used to have a mindee who lived for that programme! Pipin died a year or so agoSad.

Wiggles- I'd love to go to the giants causeway, I'm well Envy of our day out.

I'm so bored tonight, poor Dh is annoying me. We have a friends BBQ tomorrow (stay away rain) and off to cinema in Sunday to see the new batman.

Hope you all have a fab weekend.
