Hello fellow April mums. Following on from our lovely ante-natal threads, here's the first of the post-natal ones. Join us as we work out how to handle nappies, feeding, colic, crying and all things newborn, or just to celebrate the joys of a new baby!

Piles info wasn't me... although I have been suffering too. Bought some glycerine suppositories but haven't used them yet.

DH went on work trip to Germany this morning - left his bank card in sainsbury's so I had to lend him money off my credit card then missed his flight because of dodgy tubes. Have ti say it's a good thing he's spending the next 2 nights in another country.

Bad night last night - been up since 4. Can't go out because too hot for sling and I don't have a double buggy yet (will get one as soon as DH paid end of this month). MIL coming at 1ish for 2 nights to help out as my mum is on holiday in Scotland. Feel weepy - also got short temper with toddler DS so feel like shit mum. Baby won't nap because toddler so noisy. :-(

Hello, finally have a spare second to come on here - lovely to hear how everyone is getting on.
Mathias is now three and a half weeks old, delightful, but exhausting. I'm jealous of those of you getting sleep. I occasionally get a three hour stretch at night, but then it reverts to two hourly. Grrrr.
Good to hear what you're dressing babies in too. I've been worrying that he's too hot, but would be too cold in a vest being only 3 weeks old. HV wasn't much good either. Just said "do what you think".But that's why I'm asking, because I don't know!!!
Getting ready to have a lovely day out with him and DH, lunch, shopping and seaside stroll, while girls are at their dad's. Hopefully it will be relaxing....

spannermary · 26/05/2012 13:05

Hello all! Slightly better day today - so far. House seems cooler. Even managed to get vacuum out, the noise of which sent Bill straight to sleep Smile

Started a bit of light bleeding today. Loch finished about 5 days ago, and Bill is 6 weeks on Tuesday. Not sure if it's period or lochia returning. Any suggestions? Ok he's started crying & DH has come running because he thinks DS is hungry. 5 minute break over!

Enjoy your days everyone!

kat1885 · 26/05/2012 13:18

Another hot day :(. We do have a family BBQ today at 4.30 which should be nice and also means I don't have to cook which is fab. It's for DH cousin's 11th birthday, I remember when we first started dating he cancelled plans to go to her 3rd birthday party and I thought he way lying!! (also goes to show how quickly time flies).

I wish there was a way to keep DS2 cool in this heat, it's so sad hearing him cry because he is just uncomfortable.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 26/05/2012 14:34

spanner

I stopped bleeding at 3 weeks, then started again a week later. Assumed it was a period, but actually now think its lochia as its lasted a week so far, but very light, not like my periods at all.

VintageNancy · 26/05/2012 15:03

spanner I've just started bleeding again too. Emily was 6 weeks yesterday. Looks like period but I don't know.
Also feeling pretty rough - couldn't sleep last night and felt shivery. I don't have a temperature though. It's a holiday weekend here so hope I feel better soon so I can enjoy the long weekend with DH.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 26/05/2012 17:54

Wish my body would sort itself out though, I'm struggling to suppress my urges! Blush

LaTristesse · 26/05/2012 19:10

Sorry for outing you re the piles bear, I meant thank you to buns; pg brain still fully operational... Hope your day picked up bear.

My lochia is still here after 4 weeks - very light now, but not disappeared completely. I want it GONE!

kat1885 · 26/05/2012 22:25

Mine is still here too. It's hardly anything but I still have to wear a pad never thought I would miss being able to use tampons

Jellybellyrbest · 27/05/2012 10:38

Fliss; thx for the TK Maxx tip. Haven't seen any Aden & Anais bits there before but will have a good hunt around next time I'm there. Re Lochia; mine's been stop start too. Was strongly related to how much activity I did, but last few days it's stopped completely, which is great. The 4hr gap between feeds was a one-off! Back to 2ish hours between then again. Too good to be true! Going to try to get out in my bike this morning & make the most of the beautiful sun & it'll maybe give me a bit of energy. Hope you all have a lovely day!

digitalgirl · 27/05/2012 13:29

F is 7 weeks tomorrow and I still haven't stopped bleeding since the birth. It's changed in consistency a lot since then - now it's just like a medium period flow. Stops overnight then I get a gush or two during the day. Am sure it was just spotting by this point with ds1. Anyone know if I should be concerned?

Am currently breastfeeding on a garden wall in the middle of the high street. It was the closest shaded spot I could find whilst on my way back with the shopping. Ds2 does pick his moments!

HollyPockett · 27/05/2012 14:16

Mines practically gone too, but not gone enough for my liking!!

LaTristesse · 27/05/2012 14:46

Digi that is ace- good on you! Me and a bf friend of mine were feeding one handed chasing after toddlers at the water park yesterday! Extreme Breastfeeding - should be a sport!

Oops; thought I was still previewing that from this morning!

justhayley · 27/05/2012 19:46

bear hope your ok you sound down today Sad don't feel like a shit mum. We all get crap days with irritable babies there's not really much we can do. It must be tuff with a toddler and newborn but I'm sure your doing a fantastic job don't feel down on yourself. Have a cuppa tea a cry and moan on here works for me everytime. Hope you have a good night and tomorrow's a better day.

Iv had a good day today got a decent amount of sleep Noah woke every 2 1/2 hours for feeds (which is great for us) and he went straight back to sleep after every feed. I think his digestive system has finally sorted it's self out it's lovely not having him in pain after every feed. DP came home for the night so we had a family day at the local lakes - Noah slept for 4 hours while we were out, which gave me and DP a chance to have a bit of us time.
My big news of the day .... I had sex this afternoon lol iv shared everything else with you guys over the last 10 months so thought I'd share that lol. I was actually really nervous - was slightly sore at first but 3 minutes later Wink I felt better!

My Lochia went on for 5 weeks glad it's finished. Iv got PCOS so am not used to periods so five weeks felt like a life time.

Xx

LaTristesse · 27/05/2012 21:21

Hehe, go Hayley! Grin I remember the first time we did after DS I said 'is that it?' meaning I thought it would be really sore and awkward but it wasn't. DH wasn't impressed with my choice of words!

I'm a bit dreading the first time as I had a 2nd degree tear. Have to wait til my 6 week check anyway....

Flisspaps · 28/05/2012 08:14

kat you don't have to wait if you don't want to. The 6 week check generally consists of a thorough check of baby, and then the Dr will ask if you are OK, and what you want to do about contraception.

That's it - unless you ask them to check your scarring if you have concerns. Some people suggest you have sex at some point prior to the appt (if you want it) so that you're aware of any potential pain/soreness issues.

FWIW I had a 3a tear first time and it was fine - the fear was worse than the event! Didn't wait until after the 6w check either.

kat1885 · 28/05/2012 10:48

That's good news. Think dh will be delighted to hear too. Hmm best get contraception of some kind first, do not want another baby.

spannermary · 28/05/2012 11:30

Hope you're all well this morning!

Re: sex before the 6 week check as much as I'd love to, I'm still aware of my 2 measly little stitches when I wipe even though Bill is 6 weeks old tomorrow. DH will have to wait a little longer!

My 6 week check is on Wednesday, as is a visit from the HV and probably Bill's jabs. A big day. I know I'll cry when he's injected.

I thought that the 6 week check was just for me as it's in my name - I didn't know Bill had to be there too. I thought the HV checked him over. Good thing I read this first!

Excited to get him weighed, as he's not been checked in 3 weeks, and he's quickly outgrowing the last of his newborn clothes, which all say 'up to 10lb' or 'up to 11lb'. It'll be interesting to see if that's his weight, or if he's just long for his weight.

Also awaiting a breast pump delivery that should be here in the next day or two - going to try my hand at expressing. Who knows, it could change my life!

Flisspaps · 28/05/2012 12:13

spannermary It may be the HV that does Bill's check, but here we 'have to' see the HV first Hmm (had no intention of seeing the HV for DS this time, as much use as a chocolate teapot with DD) for weighing and head circumference measurement and then go through to see the GP.

With DD at a different surgery it was just the GP we saw.

They do a full physical examination of the baby (eyes, ears, reflexes, have testicles descended in boys, that sort of thing) so I would imagine it would be the GP as if the HV picked up any problems or concerns they'd only have to refer you to the GP first anyway!

Envy at Bill just getting out of the newborn things. DS completely skipped the newborn outfits and is already too big for most of the 0-3 month clothes we have. He's 6w and in 3-6 month clothes already. We visited friends on Saturday who have a 16w old, he was 9lb odd at birth but DS is already as big as him Confused

Think I have a rugby player - or a very undainty ballerina - on my hands!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 28/05/2012 12:43

Hello ladies and gents,

Well in less then than 24 hours my DS will be 1 month old (it is passing far too quickly for my liking) How is everybody finding being a mummy/daddy? Harry is really thriving and the HV is impressed that he can smile a real person smile and has been since being two weeks old and is able to hold his head for a minute or so.

So far he has gained 1lbs 6oz and continues to grow. All his tests etc have come back and he is a healthy little man. We have our 8 week check in just over a weeks time. He sleeps very well for a new baby really he goes from 22:30 until 02:30 and then from 03:00 until 05:30 so DP and I are not sleep deprived really.

I have finally tamed the ironing pile that has appeared in the past couple of weeks and have cleaned the skirtingboards and paint work throughout the house. xx

Flisspaps · 28/05/2012 12:50

yummymummy well done Grin do you want to come and do my paintwork?
