Hello fellow April mums. Following on from our lovely ante-natal threads, here's the first of the post-natal ones. Join us as we work out how to handle nappies, feeding, colic, crying and all things newborn, or just to celebrate the joys of a new baby!

That's a good suggestion. I used to be very fit but when we couldn't afford my private gym membership about 2 years ago I stopped doing anything. That coupled with just having a baby equals very unfit me.

HenriettaChicken · 13/06/2012 18:39

Ah, Kat - me too! Used to love the gym, but when we got married, we moved and it was no longer on my way home so became a luxury we couldn't afford. Now that we have Bill, I may have to rejoin as it's a council scheme and they have good pools, so may get involved in Babysplash etc.

Speaking of which, we have been told that they don't advise taking baby's swimming until after 16 week jabs. Is that what you've all heard?

HenriettaChicken · 13/06/2012 18:40

*babies; not baby's.

Knackered much?

thepuddingchef · 13/06/2012 19:23

thank you LaTristesse ds is getting constipated which is one of the reasons I wanted to ask other peoples experiences with this med. Going to try and get more of a routine as I'm getting really tired and am going to try and put some money aside for a pump. I have a hand one but have ended up with repetitive strain injury in my wrist through the pumping action.

digitalgirl · 13/06/2012 20:08

Would also love to join a gym - but don't think we could afford it right now. So it's power walking up the hill with buggy/sling for now. And cutting out cakes Sad. I am 1kg off my booking in weight (at 10 weeks). But I still need to lose 10kg to my pre-preg weight.

Ds2 has been waking an hour earlier for his night/early morning feeds which is more knackering than when he was waking more often. Hoping the almighty poo he did today will reset him back to 3:30am rather than 2:30am.

We are having a bit more luck with the buggy and if I time it right he'll sleep well in it as long as I don't stop moving or go inside. Grin

kat1885 · 13/06/2012 20:16

Henrietta I think they can go any time as the chlorine would kill any nasties but I would want to wait until at least some of.the jabs have been done. I'm also goong to start going to the council gym, will pay for a monthly pass if I go often enough.

TeaandHobnobs · 13/06/2012 20:18

Went out with DS in the sling for the first time today. I was a bit worried he was being bounced up and down as I walked, but he seemed happy enough. I forget that he still looks so absurdly small (I think he looks normal) so we attracted lots of comments!

And on our return he decided to christen the new sling by pooing all over it

Feeling very let down by my GP surgery at the moment Sad Angry - they have completely cocked up arranging my counselling, and I went to collect a repeat prescription for DS's supplements, only to find the hospital discharge letter with the medicines on has disappeared in my doctor's office and he is now on holiday, so no prescription. Thankfully neither of these things are too serious in my case, but they could have been...

newmummyvicky · 13/06/2012 21:45

chicken I range my local council pool today and u can take babies from any age swimmimg, but they do say its best to wait till first jabs are over! so speak to your local pool, as they do say what they say?
Im thinking about taking L soon, i brought her a little swimming cosie.

I had a poo explosion at 7pm tonight, she hadnt gone all day and it went over her white legging and dress, i had to soak then wash- nice!!!!!

She is sleeping brill at the moments, she went 7 hrs between feeds and 6.5 last night. Also she is falling alsleep earlier, so putting her to bed after the 8,o clock feed instead of 10pm. I get hubby to do expressed bottle feed at 8 to let me have bath and wash hair. We are sticking to giving one bottle every day. I did miss one day and she was then a little fuzzy with bottle again, because always doing bf.
Im down to 7-8 feeds a day now, much better then 10! and going between 2-3 hrs in the day.

Cubtrouble · 13/06/2012 21:50

Fliss, Bunsout, Vintage....Thanks SO much for your replies, i am thinking DH is lurking on here, today I got up, I heard some clattering and there he was getting his piles of clothes off the spare bed and was actually hanging them up! This may be a first! Yesterday was NOT a good day.

Today however has been nice, cub had his checkup with the doctor this morning, all is well, DH treated me to a slice of cake from the bakery- i think this was his way of saying sorry for being a bumhole. THEN this afternoon me and baby went to new mums group. which was suprisingly good! I didnt really go in for this stuff before- no anti-natal classes etc but i decided to give it a go and I am really glad I did, lots of cute babies and nice mums. ;-)

Tomorrow I am meeting a colleague from work which will be nice and I might even do some ironing and hoover the living room, (maybe) lol
Afternoon nap has gone to my head- feeling far too chipper!

xxx

Hi Ladies! Been catching up on all the recent posts...Kat, I might look at C25K too. Have a treadmill, so it's convenient instead of trying to leave the house. Was running regularly up till 18W, and I hate feeling this lardy. Also; running is a natural anti-depressant & have to say, once you're over the first few weeks the high it can give you is fab :-) Kinda concerned about putting too much strain on my Pelvic Floor though...not sure if running would weaken it, or strengthen it!

Trying to do Jillian Michaels 30DS too. May have pulled a calf muscle tonight though. Wondering if we still have too much relaxin in our bodies just now......maybe that's partly why your GP was advocating 12w.

If anyone has an iPhone; Tena has sponsored an App called 'My Pff'. It takes you through your pelvic floor exercises & beeps to remind you to do them once a day. It's certainly helping me remember at least once a day, which is better than none!!

Little Emily had her injections today & has been thoroughly miserable this evening. I know the advice is now to hold off the paracetamol, but Has anyone given any? She doesn't have a fever, but is really unhappy. She had been so settled & hope this doesn't change anything!! She's slept 5-6 hours for the last 3 nights!

LaTristesse · 14/06/2012 08:27

Day 7 of Cerazette dawns... and lo and behold, a period. Joy.

Bearcrumble · 14/06/2012 09:40

Fingers crossed we are past the week 8 horrors. Last 3 nights have been pretty good (by my standards) She did 11-2am in basket then came in with me for a feed then slep on me til 6.30ish.

Yesterday was my birthday and my mum had DS and DH bunked off work (he's self employed so never, never rests) - we took DD up to town in the Moby. She slept the whole time, we left home at 11, she slept tied to me all through lunch (Japanese) and I had to wake her for a feed and a change (tip: if you are in London House of Fraser on Oxford St has a nice big feeding/changing room on the 5th floor, I always use it) then put the sling on DH and she slept til we got home at 5.30! She never usually goes that long between feeds but I guess she was catching up on sleep as she onlt usually cat-naps when we are at home as DS is so noisy.

Speaking of him, he started two 3-hr sessions of nursery a week this week. No tears when he went on his own for the first time on Tues. Hoping this morning's session goes as smoothly.

newmummyvicky · 14/06/2012 12:58

jellybelly I gave L Calpol which U can give after 8 weeks, U can give twice 4 hours apart! I found this helped after jabs! She did seem a bit calmer after that.
bearcrumble glad U had a nice birthday! its mine on Monday, So thinking about going out for a meal too with Hubby.

A question to thoose who bf, was tops do U find best for feeding, when doing it in public places? A top U lift up or pull down? I Still I haven't done in too it many places yet. But I did by a large loop scarf from TK max yesterday.

Flisspaps · 14/06/2012 13:04

newmummyvicky I usually wear a normal t-shirt with a £2.50 Primark boob tube underneath, rather than an expensive BF top with peepholes in the wrong place for my less-than-pert norks. I have tried covering DS with a thin scarf in certain
circumstances but to be honest, he kicks and fights so much under it that it's easier and less attention-drawing not to bother!

digitalgirl · 14/06/2012 13:37

vicky if I'm wearing a top that needs to be pulled up I'll wear a stretchy vest underneath (got mine from m&s or uniqlo) that I can pull down. If an wearing a dress or low cut top that is easier to pull down I'll have a thin cardi that can shield the great expanse of chest on display. Sometimes use large muslin to shield ds2 if it's a bit bright/noisy and he has trouble focusing on the job!

LaTristesse · 14/06/2012 14:45

Vicky neither of mine like/d going in from

OP posts:
LaTristesse · 14/06/2012 14:50

...underneath so I usually just flop one out of the top. It does mean I'm limited to wearing things low-cut / wrap style etc. but I have been known to use an armhole if the neckline doesn't allow! I long ago gave up being discrete, if anyone else has a problem with me feeding they can bog off...

OP posts:
LaTristesse · 14/06/2012 15:06

Thought I'd share this btw, quite an eye opener, if you'll pardon the pun

OP posts:
HenriettaChicken · 14/06/2012 15:13

LaTristesse I wish I could be so self-confident but I am so self-conscious about feeding in public! I've got a couple of nursing tops (matalan's finest!!) which I've tried to wear when out and about and have also on occasion plumped for the vest top/buttons combo.

Then DS and I have a competition whereby I try and hide any major nipplage with a rather attractive turquoise starred muslin, whilst he tries to grab it and punch it off me whilst feeding.

He quite often wins... BlushWink

Flisspaps · 14/06/2012 15:17

The only thing I'm really bothered about flashing is my delightfully hairy belly, if I'm really honest. I'm not all that arsed about flashing nipple at anyone, and it's nigh on impossible for me to hide much actual boob as I'm a sodding 38E!

marshmallowpies · 14/06/2012 16:18

BCG day here today. We both cried, but she slept for hours after while I did a 3k route march and then met some friends for lunch - DD was good as gold.

Not looking forward to the next set of jabs on Tues but will have my calpol ready in advance.

I haven't bought any breastfeeding tops - just one of the covers that you wear round your neck like an apron. (I call it my breastfeeding apron!)

I used it in the library yesterday & felt very comfortable doing it. Only cost about £6 from eBay too!

HenriettaChicken · 14/06/2012 16:41

Fliss I see your 38E and raise you a 36FF! Wink

HenriettaChicken · 14/06/2012 16:42

...difficult to be discreet when your boobs are as big as your wee man's head!

newmummyvicky · 14/06/2012 16:57

Im a 38DD, so quite hard to hide too- Lol.
Im still abit self conscious too henriettachicken but i think after a few times out and about, i wont care? Im gonna see how i get on with scarf but was looking at them apron's too- they do seem quite funny.

L has been grumpy today, sleeping and feeding mostly. I thought its best to keep her asleep, because she has been a bit moaning. Hopefully she will still sleep tonight? But DH has the day off so maybe she is abit out of sync!

Not sure when we have next lots of jabs but must be soon?

Flisspaps · 14/06/2012 17:08

With DD I never fed in public, and it rendered me housebound and I stopped completely at 7w.

DS is now 9wo, I'm much more blasé about it with him. I'd rather someone else feel uncomfortable (which isn't my problem) than me feel the bloody terrible guilt I felt for stopping BF DD. It helps that it's more 'normal' amongst my friends than it was - with DD there were only 2 of us, since then there's been more of my friends have children and BF. At a barbecue with ex colleagues the other week there were 3 of us feeding at the same time, with other ex colleagues sitting chatting with us.
