What is everyone dressing there babies in? In this hot weather?

I've just put her in a vest, i think ill leave off the swaddle tonight it is a summer one but our bedroom is 29'c with windows open. Just gonna lie a cellar blanket over her, she wakes herself with her arms normally. I have a feeling its gonna be a long night! She been a bit upset since last feed, I think its the hot weather, also she has slept alot today!

HollyPockett · 24/05/2012 21:45

Frankie is the same as Bill spanner feeding loads more today, really antsy and fussy and won't stay asleep for longer than 30 mins.

She finally went down about an hour ago, way past her usual time but she just couldn't settle. I'm hot and bothered myself and bloody knackered. I love te heat but do wish that we has a bit of a breeze to go with it!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 24/05/2012 21:46

My daughter has spent the majority of the day in nothing - in the shade of course.

For bed she is wearing a nappy and her swaddle. It's only thin cotton. Last night she had a vest on too but it quickly became obvious she was too warm.

She clearly hates this heat, she's done nothing but doze, eat, and be cranky all day!

I wish I could have done that all day. Grin

HollyPockett · 24/05/2012 21:47

newmummy I've put Frankie in a vest with a muslin over her. She's quite happy like that at the mo. Shea due for a feed at about 12 sonill whack a babygrow on her then. If the temp has gown down that it. Thermometer hasn't gone below 26 today

marshmallowpies · 24/05/2012 22:38

We don't have a thermometer in the bedroom yet & I do hope it's not too hot! DD in a Tshirt for bed & a cellular blanket draped over the basket but not tucked round her.

Feeding was v painful today with bleeding nipples on both sides (sorry tmi) & wonder if she sucked harder than normal due to thirstiness in the heat.

Her fontanelle felt quite low this evening so we gave her a little cooled boiled water followed by more feeding. Wondering if she is getting dehydrated is very worrying but been plenty of dirty/wet nappies today so all seems pretty normal.

SarryB · 24/05/2012 23:15

I've got Dylan in just his merino swaddle, and have left his legs out. I've been switching between the swaddle and just using a cotton sheet. There's no way I couldn't swaddle him, he has got crazy arms.

I've been giving Dylan cool boiled water when we get in from a walk too. I also put a couple of his bottles in the fridge too. He really seems to like very cold water!

justhayley · 24/05/2012 23:37

Noahs in a vest with Muslin over him. Will probably change that to cellular at our 3am feed if it's cooler

VintageNancy · 25/05/2012 02:25

Ah heat is something I have experience with! During the day, at home, Emily is mainly just in her nappy once it warms up. We have a monster fan to keep the air moving. Mornings and nights are pretty cool so she's still in a sleepsuit or vest (depending on temp) and swaddle but when we hit the 30s the other week we just had her in her nappy and swaddle. In the bedroom we have a fan and the window open and by her 5am feed I'm actually freezing!!

Haven't introduced water, I just feed her almost constantly (it feels like). And dampen (with warm water, not cold) a muslin to pat over her if she feels very hot.

Went to my first mum (or mom) and baby yoga class this afternoon. Didn't do much yoga as Em needing feeding and didn't settle very well but was great to meet more new mums and I got a cuddle with my friend's 4-week old who seems so teeny compared to Emily.

Bearcrumble · 25/05/2012 08:11

For those who swaddle and are worried about the heat - there are these things, I'm thinking of getting one.

We've had an ok couple of night - she went to sleep at 11ish in her moses basket and woke at 2 last night and 3 the night before then came in with me for a feed and slept on me until about 6 - 6.30.

LaTristesse · 25/05/2012 08:18

What treatment do you get for internal piles then? I think I may have them but the symptoms ate quite similar to a pre-existing bowel condition I have. I'm seeing my consultant about that in a couple of weeks but if it's not that I'm wondering what I can look forward to by way of treatment for the piles? Did someone say it's quite common post birth?

Well I have one grumpy baby today :( he is not coping with the heat well. My curtains are closed to keeop the sun out so its quite cool in my house just wish we could get out for my 4yo to have some fun but not sure Aaron will cope... what a pain in the bum.

spannermary · 25/05/2012 12:08

kat I could've written that post myself...well except for the 4 year old bit.

Bill is only not crying when I feed him or when he's bouncing on my knee. It's going to be a long day...

Jellybellyrbest · 25/05/2012 13:23

Having a day of non stop crying here too today :-(
Had a friend round this am & Em cried the whole time. Still haven't managed to dry my hair & my shower was one big crying session earlier. Wanted to walk to school to pick up DD2, but not sure if I'm brave enough. Helps to know I'm not alone though!! BTW: Aden & Anais sell beautiful (but pricey) BIG Muslins which are great for swaddling/sunshading/light covers for prams in this weather. Delighted with mine ATM. hope e'ones day improves!!!

kat1885 · 25/05/2012 13:38

Managed to get Aaron off to sleep, went to do something with ds1 and he told me to go away and "see baby brother". Feeling so much guilt right now.

Flisspaps · 25/05/2012 13:50

Jelly you can get the Aden and Anais muslins in TK Maxx, think they're cheaper from there Smile

Bunsouttheoven · 25/05/2012 14:24

Fractious baby here too, heat & the fartsGrin.

latris my dr prescribed suppositories for piles when I had them internally with dc1. . He said even if you have them externally they should be treated with suppositories as the creams are very ineffective.

newmummyvicky · 25/05/2012 15:14

Think I might have piles too, abit of blood in poo and a little pain when I go, will see doc on Monday.

She was like a new born last night with the feeds waking at 1am 4am 6am 9am, gone are the nights when I had 7hours sleep :-(
Also she been a sleep lots today in her baby swing, just got half a hours kip, and having a cold coffee to wake me up!
Managed to bath her my self this morning. Not done it before without hubby. On our own all day today. Hopefully she might sleep better tonight, can't get hubby to do any night feeds as he starts a 6am tomorrow.

Its our 6 yr wedding aniversary Sunday, might have lunch out with hubby and Lyra then have a trip to the cinema with mum baby sitting!

justhayley · 26/05/2012 00:02

Happy anniversary for Sunday Vicky.

Sorry to hear a lot of you have had tuff days.
Mines been a good one today strangely peaceful - think the heat just knocked Noah out he's slept loads today! Hoping that continues through the night Hmm
I finally got round to organising his room and I love it Grin we had planned to do the nursery before te birth but Noah made an early arrival and then there's been no spare seconds until today to even think about hanging bunting! Forgot how much crap I bought during pregnancy! I thought I only bought the necessities. Now hes here I realise the only things he actually needs are my boobs nappies a few blankets and a million muslins - oh well you live and learn! Still glad I bought everything mamas and papas had available as his room looks super cute - even if he is in mine till he's 18 Wink

Also question - Is anyone else feeling broody yet? For the last week all iv been thinking about is being pregnant again! Not sure why I didn't particularly love it I'm just really broody for another one!
Havnt had sex yet but DP is home tomorrow and I think I'm now ready Smile - maybe we can make Noah a little brother or sister lol

Anyway off to sleep now hoping Noah sleeps until 3am at least!

Night night xx

HollyPockett · 26/05/2012 02:32

hayley I'd love more kids but the very thought of labour and the recovery puts me right off! But I had a rough time of it and it was only 4 weeks ago!

Francesca had a much better day yesterday too, ivthink the breeze helped, it seemed a lot cooler. She was as good as gold. She's now feeding after being asleep for 4 hours. Hopefully she'll go back down now for another four, we have a big weekend ahead.

VintageNancy · 26/05/2012 02:48

I can safely say hayley no I do not feel broody at all! Pregnancy & birth were fab but this newborn lark is hard.

Jellybellyrbest · 26/05/2012 06:12

Just had to share; my LO has just slept 4 hours in a row!! She had a quick 5min feed & has gone back to sleep. I feel like a new woman (just a shame that I was sleeping on the sofa instead of in bed!!). Am now having undisturbed tea & toast having hung out the washing. It's gorgeous outside; it's warm still & calm & the birds are singing.....sigh! Hope I wasn't the only one to have a good night.
Ps: Em found her thumb last night & sucked like mad on it. The cutest thing EVER

Jellybellyrbest · 26/05/2012 06:14

Ps. Definitely NOT broody. And no matter how broody I get, I won't be doing this again!! So I intend to treasure every last moment.......

justhayley · 26/05/2012 06:32

Lol had a pretty tuff night with Noah - natures way of taking away my broodiness before DP gets home this afternoon perhaps lol
Noah was back to waking up every hour & a half - killer!
jelly wow we've never done four hours it must be amazing - congrats!

I think Noah may be getting a cold Sad he was coughing yesterday & is stuffy this morning - I can see quite a few boogies but they are too far up his nose for me to dig them out for him Sad TMI sorry lol. He also slept loads yesterday daytime - I put it down to the hear but maybe he just needed extra rest - shame he didn't feel the same during the night!

justhayley · 26/05/2012 06:33

Down the the heat not hear Wink

LaTristesse · 26/05/2012 08:04

I'm with Jelly, this is my last baby so I'm treasuring every second (that last month of pg nearly killed me!), much as like more children I'm just too old - should have started earlier!

DD is a dream - slept from 8 til 4am, woke for a quick snack then back down and still asleep now! But then she was awake for a couple of 4 hour bursts yesterday, bit of feeding, mostly just kicking back in her chair in the garden and chuckling at DS! I swear it took him 18 months to do what she's doing now sleep-wise!

Thanks for the piles info bear, I look forward to the suppositories!
