Oh Jojo, I'm so sorry that you and DP have split up. It sounds as though life's been really stressful for you recently and if you and he aren't able to pull together as a team then it makes it even harder. DH and I separated for a couple of months when DS was about this age so I understand. And added to the housing situation it must be really tough for you. At least the council might give you a bit more help as a single mum though? And I hope DS is better soon.

Ssmile I did PMSL a bit at your post. It was so very funny. DD has had a similar morning today culminating with bashing her head really hard on the radiator and now she has a big bump and a cut on her forehead. Honestly, I seem to spend half my time on here telling you all about my DC's injuries

QRGM sorry to hear about the house but, as you say, c'est la vie. I believe in fate where these things are concerned so maybe it just wasn't meant to be and somewhere even better will come along.

Loves DS will almost certainly be fine, who's looking after him? Without you there then he might well be happier to take his milk from his (v posh) new cup. DD is now fairly happy to take her milk from DH when I'm at work but won't hear of it if she knows I'm around. And if you turn your phone off then you can watch whatever you're watching in blissful ignorance! Wink

I love the Michael McIntyre bit about when your children learn to speak; we have friends whose 3yo DD is absurdly precocious and holds practically adult conversations while DS just chunters around the floor making car noises Hmm

100years · 02/03/2012 12:49

I'm not keen on Michael McIntyre he shouts too much for me, and Al Murray too, I like talky people, but I know lots of others are huge fansSmile

Well the longest gap I got last night between feeds was 2hrs10Sad Gah, really struggled last night. It's gone back to never ending feeds again.

Feral, don't worry about injuries, kids are always getting into one scrape or another. It's not nice, but it's part of it.

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 02/03/2012 13:08

He's not my favourite but have to say tge children's stuff made me stop mnetting on Xmas night when dh was watching his new DVD

sarahseager · 02/03/2012 13:25

Hi everyone, I can't seem to keep up with posting on here just lately!

Hope you are all doing ok.

Jojo so sorry to hear that you and dp have split, I hope you are ok, maybe a break will give you some space to think clearly as its so hard sometimes.

100 hope you're ok with lack of sleep and frustrating nights, our nights are so hit and miss here. Have I remembered correctly that your lo is 6 months today and you're starting weaning? You have done so well to bf exclusively all this time - amazing!

I'm on my phone so can't remember who posted what but hope you are all doing ok with lo's waking and various injuries and illnesses. Some of your posts really make me laugh and make me feel so much better when it all seems a bit much! Was it you feral that said that lo had banged their head? My lo is so active but not at all steady and keeps throwing herself about the place, we have had many a face plant this week, I even caught her as she threw herself of the bed the other day - bad mummy Blush How can someone so little throw themselves so far?!

We have been to docs today as I wanted to discuss about lo's reflux meds as we have had very little support and now we are weaning I feel we need to review it and need some professional advice. I asked straight away for a referral back to the paedeatric assessment unit at the hospital as the docs had been useless in the past but we saw a lovely doctor (at last) who really took the time to listen and has advised how we can change the meds so we can hopefully gradually come off them. It was a refreshing change to actually be seen by a doc who wanted to help and not just hurry us along like we experienced in the early days with lo. So fingers crossed the change in meds will go successfully.

Other than that we have had an ok week, lo is enjoying her swimming lessons, it tires her out sooo much it's brill! We have managed a day time nap in the cot! And at weigh in today she was 15lb 5oz, she's edging towards the 50th centile now after following the 25th since she was born - just need her length to catch up now as we could have a chubby little ball on our hands Grin There is no chance of that though as both me and dp are rather challenged in the height department! Blush

As for our nights lo is sometimes doing well and sometimes not, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, I feel I'm going to have to persevere with settling her back into her cot at some point in the middle of the night but for now snuggles with me are the preferred choice! Smile

Phew long post, sorry to ramble on. Hope you are all having a good day. Here's to the weekend xx

QueenRunningGeekMum · 02/03/2012 14:08

Jojo just wanted to echo what others have said already, really sorry you're having such a tough time of it. I can't imagine what you're going through. Do you have family or friends to help support you nearby?

On phone so can't reply individually. I like Michael McIntyre but love Dave Gorman - his stories really draw you in! I try to repeat them to others but they just give me a Hmm look so you'll just have to see him live, or read one of his books (literally lol)!

Lo has gone down to two wake ups a night which is manageable. Day naps still a bit hit and miss though.

As for bangs, DH sat lo on his shoulders and then walked through the archway between our kitchen and dining room - whoops! Bit of a clunk on the noggin! But lo was fine just a bit confused as to why I was laughing so much! Reminded me of the 'Monica bang' thing in Friends. Grin

100years · 02/03/2012 16:42

Hi Sarah,

It's next week that LO is 6 months so another week to go! But thanks I feel quite chuffed to have got so far. :) Lovely weight gain considering all the problems you have had there.

My LO occasionally does face plants when she gets a bit over enthusiastic about crawling around, and it's comical watching her, she doesn't seem bothered by it.

ssmile · 02/03/2012 17:37

jojo hope you have some good support from friends and family to cope with your tough times.

Glad my post raised some laughs :o these days I feel like I have an internal monologue running in my head of what I think Lo is up to. Last night I was exhausted and instead of losing it at dinner time I just sat in my chair opposite baby and copied her. Legs in air hanging onto my feet (she has found those this week) and babbling. It had my oldest DD and I in stitches laughing and babe just looking at us utterly bemused for once as she hurled the spoon on the floor for the fifth time grrr.

Babe has new habit of holding onto her foot with one hand and waving it about whilst breastfeeding on my lap. I have to wedge her other hand under my armpit to stop her pinching under my boob.

Generally I've just felt very very tired this week.just really fed up of the relentlessly of breastfeeding day and night. Waking up every 2-3hrs to feed at night and then running the house and feeling like a single parent in daytime as DH hardly been here this wk again. Babe hasn't wanted to be put down much so feel like I'm constantly chasing my tail trying to keep ontop of the housework :( Sorry moan over. Hope you all have gd weekends.

sarahseager · 02/03/2012 18:33

I feel like I haven't done any housework since lo arrived ssmile Smile It really gets to me sometimes as I can never seem to get on top of it! I did however manage 40 mins of ironing this week when lo had a nap tho!

It's amazing how quick you become at doing jobs tho when you're on a time limit! I once spent nearly two hours cleaning the bathroom pre baby - ha! Lucky if I spend 10 mins on it now! Blush

Minkyjj · 03/03/2012 04:34

It's 4.30am and I have so far managed one hours sleep in total. Lo is like a thing possessed - he is flipping around his crib singing and kicking his legs and generally having a major party fir one in his crib. Tried everything but he wont settle so just sticking it out and catching up on posts.
Sarahseager - my ds1 had major reflux as a baby and was on ranitadine until 18 months - we were told the reflux would mainly resolve when he started walking (the laws of gravity would help with him being upright) and they were right. He is now almost seven and although he still swallows alot (acid burning at back of throat) he is fine and completely off meds - Hope that gives you a little peace of mind with your lo.

sarahseager · 03/03/2012 07:33

Thanks Minkyjj. Yes we had been told that gravity would eventually help so it's nice to here that it does make a difference eventually! Smile The doctor has taken lo off the domperidone and increased the ranitidine as the dose she was on was far too low for her weight - so hopefully that will help ease the discomfort that remains!

Really hope you've managed to get some more sleep since your post! It's so hard when they just won't settle, my lo has a habit of having a party for one most days from about 5am! Hope you can get some rest maybe this weekend xx

feralgirl · 03/03/2012 15:13

Minky I really hope you caught some more zzzz's this morning and that DS is right now having a lovely long nap so that you can too.

Sarah, yy to doing speedy housework. I quite often clean the bath as I'm standing in it taking a shower! But I'm not sure that I have ever spent 40 mins ironing (and by that I mean all the ironing I have ever done, in my entire life, added together. I don't do ironing Grin)

Ssmile Shock at the pinchy boob. DD had a habit of grabbing my nose, mouth or eyes when I'm feeding her so I wear this silly panda necklace that she just loves and she plays with that.

Queen I too am a Dave Gorman fan. I haven't seen him live but drove DH mad sitting in bed LOLing to the books. Wouldn't it be just great to be able to earn a living having stupid boy adventures like his?

Minkyjj · 03/03/2012 21:08

Thanks Sarah and feral - managed a total of 2 hours last night (the paediatric appointment is still a month away - ahhhhh). Lo woke himself up farting continuously and lifting his legs up in the air with a tummy ache. In the end I called dh downstairs a twenty to eight and told him he had to take over and caught two and a half gorgeous hours sleep (so used to sol little sleep now that I don't require much at all !). Lo slept for dh (typical) and was then full of beans. Now he is out cold but I truly wonder for how long. If it wasn't for my iPhone and kindle last night I think I may have lost the plot - such stress relievers !
Off to sleep while I can !

Minkyjj · 05/03/2012 09:58

Monday morning again. Cuddles with a very snuggly lo - lucky he is so cute having kept me awake all night again Wink

candr · 05/03/2012 11:48

wrote long reply then ds pulled comp lead out and lost it so hi all, hope yr geting more sleep than me.
cake glad everything going ok, my ds was supposed to be born on dh birthday but missed it by 10 days, dh happy about that Smile
jojo- sorry nto hear yr news Sad
left hand typing holding wriggly baby so no caps etc sorry. stuck in house with grumpy baby waiting for dh car to be collected so he has mine. will go and check out frogspawn in pond as have lots of noisy, randy frogs - glad someone has the energy to dtd. Grin

ssmile · 05/03/2012 12:16

I too wrote long reply then phone dropped WiFi gee.

minkyj hope u can get some rest at some point. The exhaustion I had with DD1 was awful really made me feel down &blue. I really feel for you.

This babe still wakes 3-4x a night but mostly feeds and resettles within 20mins which is godsend. DD1 had weird mystery bug Sunday very high temp all day on sofa with bucket but thank heavens no sick. I was quietly terrified she had a tum bug we are overdue one as half her school had it pre halfterm. She home today but seems a lot better. Fingers Xed babe doesn't get it.

Anyone else finding weaning hard? I really find it a messy pain I sit for half an hour whilst babe throws 95% of her food at me or around the kitchen, occasionally eats some. I only know this because of her poohie nappies that some IS going in! I try hard to not get frustrated as I know she does sleep better when she does eat well on those rare nights its 3wake ups not 4 which such a difference in my tired head. She is vdetermined to not let me spoonfed her but then she gets frustrated when she can't get it in her mouth :)

On a happy note my friend had her third baby girl last night 3wks early but vhealthy, mum had only finished work thurs and then had pains Friday!

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 05/03/2012 13:29

Quick check in hope all are well.

Ds is still waking 3 hours per night, might try some proper food tomorrow after my job interview. Just can get any out to do baby rice, plus he doesn't seen very keen on it any way.

ssmile · 05/03/2012 13:59

Anyone else got a really noisy baby now too? She has really found her voice lots of growling, squealing, my other DD keeps moaning she can't watch TV as babe won't shut up :o kettle black springs to mind on that one!

Gd luck loves for your interview

feralgirl · 05/03/2012 14:23

Best of luck for tomorrow Loves. Fingers Xed all the way.

Ssmile Deffo on the difficulties of weaning. The novelty wears off so quickly doesn't it? I have to keep on reminding myself that DD'll do it all in her own time, in her own particular way. Mine is also a spoon-refuser which can be a bit irritating but has the upside that, when we're all sat around the table having dinner as a family, I can just bung a few bits in front of her and leave her to it while I eat relatively uninterrupted.

Candr Grin at your frogs!

sebs71 · 05/03/2012 14:27

Yikes... been off for a couple of days and loads to catch up on... so will try but sorry if missing people out.

Jojo - echoing what everyone says, so sorry to hear you have split up and hope you are coping ok. Good luck with house search too. What a stressful time, Virtual hugs to you.

Loves - good luck for interview

Ssmile - yes, got a very loud baby, she loves to squeal and shout, and does a really high screech for time to time... I'm pretty lucky in that she likes being spoon fed, and bottle plus feed takes about 15 mins tops. She certainly takes after her mum in how she likes her food :) I think it'll get a whole lot messier after 6 months when I start to introduce other foods and leave her to feed herself a bit more. But enjoying this stage.

Minky - hope your getting more sleep and naps...

Candr - Grin at your randy frogs! Our so called pond is frogspawn-less, but neighbours across the road has loads - very noisy at night, plus they've got lots of newts too. Mind you, we seemed to have acquired a stray cat - and our dog doesn't like it - just discovered him wandering around the drive about to run off after breaking the rope his chain is attached to outside! Lucky I went to get him when I did or I'd be frantically searching the village now.

Brrrrrr, where's the lovely warm weather gone - woke up to snowing yesterday (didn't stick) but it's freezing out there...

QueenRunningGeekMum · 05/03/2012 21:02

On phone, just checking in really.

Good luck with your interview Loves

I got frustrated with weaning yesterday. But got over myself and thought we'd never get anywhere if mealtimes became stressful. So sang to lo next meal and he ate all his food! Have sung every meal since, a little embarrassing in a cafe today but it's currently working! Not looking forward to lo wising up to my trick though!

Have sprained my ankle so just hobbling around at the moment. And our house is now on the market so we've had a major clean and tidy up, feel like I can't touch anything now!

sarahseager · 06/03/2012 15:05

Hi all, just popping on quickly on phone.

Hope sleeping is getting better for those that have been finding it hard, we are much the same with lots of waking and very hard to settle back in cot, not sure what to do for the best. So many people that I have chatted to about it recommend leaving them to cry but I really don't think I will ever be able to do that, poor little think has cried so much in her life with her reflux that I don't want her to be crying herself to sleep.

Our weaning is going ok but no real progress from purées, she won't take to finger food at all which is weird as she puts everything else in her mouth! Ha!

Also trying to get her to take a bottle and / or cup with little success. I'm going back to work mid April and will need her to be taking it by then - eek! Hopefully she'll gradually get the idea. Smile

Hope you are all ok and that interview goes well loves.

Can't remember who was asking about noisy babies but yes we have a very noisy one! Particularly fond of her dinosaur style screech! Grin So cute hearing her experimenting with sounds.

Xx

100years · 06/03/2012 16:59

ssmile, my LO also pinches my boob, but with the hand that is on the top, so I try and get my thumb there to stop it, I might get a necklace she can 'play' with while I'm feeding. Yep and she's noisy, more about that later.

Sarah, I've never spent 2 hours cleaning the bathroom!

Minky, how has LO's sleeping been the past couple of nights?

Geekmum, :( to your sprained ankle, I hope it heals quickly.

Sorry I feel I've missed people out.

Well we have been back to see the Tongue Tie doc, as I was concerned about the tie still being there after some more painful feeding and seeing a white frenulum, anyway I was told LO has (or I should now say HAD) either a residual tie or it had rejoined a little bit after the last snip, he cut the tie again for us this morning. Not received with much pleasure I think it must have hurt her more this time. But I'm glad I followed my Mummy instinct and got a review appointment.

She is properly babbling away at times now, some of the sounds are like Mumumumum, da da da da da (or ta with a v short t sound like the end of rat) and nah nah nah, and other sounds are just noises. Although it's all just practicing now, and lots and lots of exaggerated lower jaw movement, and she sometimes kind of copies us when we are talking with her mouth movements.

But the funniest thing was the other night while we were away, I said to her "say good night to everyone" at which point she 'shouted' "nah, nah" which really sounded like night night from a baby. It was very comical, we all laughed and she just sat and looked at me like I was daft. Like why are you all laughing.

Her night sleeping is getting a teeny tiny bit better :) But still waking a good few times in the night. Oh well. I said she'll start sleeping through when (if) I get pg again, when I'm in that whole insomnia needing a wee stage of pg and so I'll go from one sleepless baby, to being sleepless and pg to a newborn and more sleepless nights, it might be 4 years before I get to sleep through Shock

sarahseager · 06/03/2012 17:25

Ha ha, I think I spent 2 hours on it when I was nesting! Honest Blush

candr · 06/03/2012 17:58

100yrs our DS sometimes makes sounds that sounds like words and then looks confused at our astonished faces.

Think I have worked out why DS is not sleeping, since weaning he has food, milk, food, milk wtc but never seems to go longer than 2 hours between so thats why he wakes every 2 hours at night. Just need to work out new routine but worry about milk drying up if he starts having less as want freezer supply so I can leve him sometimes.
Geek mum, hope you can add running to your name again soon.
Jojo, hope you are doing ok.
Right, off to find baby book with good routine in it .....

100years · 06/03/2012 20:06

sarah, I had 1 instance of possible nesting. I felt I needed to dust the front room. I therefore did, at about 5am one morning as I had that late stage insomnia.

candr, I know what you mean about giving stuff 2 hourly, I haven't started weaning yet, but I do feed quite frequently, in fact I think it's possibly more frequently than a month back, but that's fine. Yeah I love her little confused face.
