Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ssmile · 07/02/2012 11:33

geek I started the baby rice at 22wks did two days just giving one tsp around 4-5pm in between breast feeds. Day 3 gave it around lunchtime and 4-5pm, then added little mashed banana. That night instead of waking 5x she woke twice :) my Lo was ready, they not all so I'd take your cue from babe. Mine just kept opening her mouth for more even though I'd given her full boob before I started! Gd luck sleep deprivation is utterly horrid. The previous two weeks had been hardest since I had this Lo.

sarahseager · 07/02/2012 11:48

Sebs i couldn't sleep either, I think cos I just was too alert waiting for the next wake up, so frustrating! My lo is just over 20 weeks too, have just been to tescos to get the baby rice and now looking forward to trying it!

ssmile · 07/02/2012 11:56

tiddly my hair loss was also dreadful couple weeks ago but has slowed abit now I think about it this week, so maybe that will improve too but my hair has felt very dull lately.

Well Lo didn't want to try butternut squash for lunch. Screwed her face up and spat it out! So just tried plain babyrice but nope didn't want that either today think she needs a poo as very smelly farts coming out may ease back on the rice until she goes and do tum massage.

sarahseager · 07/02/2012 12:21

Tiddly my hair is coming out so much I block the shower plug hole up every morning! It's been that way for a few weeks now, hope it calms down soon otherwise I'll have none left!

tiddleypompom · 07/02/2012 12:39

We're going bald!!!!

I am new winner of PITA award (stealing award from our white cat) as we are all picking long brown hairs from our clothes, furniture, ds's hands, shower plug (boak), dinner (double boak)...

tiddleypompom · 07/02/2012 12:43

By the way, I never used the word 'boak' before mumsnet. Or PITA as an acronym. Hmm.

Or put things in pointy brackets.

ssmile · 07/02/2012 12:43

We bought new Hoover last weekend as my DH was SO fed up with the hair! Mine is long and thick and I had to deplug the plug hole half way through washing my hair now its only once hence why I think its easing :o but not nice for ones self esteem

sebs71 · 07/02/2012 15:21

Me too... hair falling out all over the place... well, no, mainly in the shower. Also desparately in need of roots being done... lovely inch of silver that then blends into the totally false blonde hair...! My DSD thought LO would be definitely be fair haired as both me and OH are blonde and had to show her photos of me when I was younger with my naturally dark hair, before the grey started coming through at the age of 18... Blush Went blonde about 3 years ago (after highlights by a student went wrong, but actually really liked the blonde effect!!!) and found it was true for me that blondes have more fun ... met OH, moved in, had LO and getting married in June..!!!

Anyway, I digress... LO still not quite got hang of eating the baby rice, but quite a bit went it at lunchtime. May try some pureed fruit tomorrow or Thursday.

TP - YAY... enjoy your new highchair (well no, hope your LO enjoys the highchair!)

Ssmile - hoping the tummy massage does the trick... Mine seems to enjoy doing a poop when in her highchair at lunchtime when I give her the lunchtime bottle and now baby rice! Must be the sitting up thing... although she loves doing them when sitting on my knee having a bottle too... you get a warm feeling on your leg then the smell hits you!!

Right, I'm off to look up PITA on the acronyms page Confused

sebs71 · 07/02/2012 15:25

TP - ahhh... Wink understand PITA now... And, Yes, I reckon I would win that award too in our house, except I think the dog might just clinch it as he's starting to malt a little... we look at each other with sympathy!!!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 07/02/2012 16:37

Thanks for the sympathy and understanding everybody! DH has bought some baby rice so looking forward to trying it. We'll have to use formula milk as I can't express any decent amount unfortunately. But then lo has a bottle of formula every night anyway (top-up) might gradually turn that into a rice feed.

ssmile · 07/02/2012 20:14

Maybe of interest On the BBC website news health section there is an article published 14th January on weaning BF babies before 6mths. And it said they were publishing yet another review of guidance later this yr.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 07/02/2012 20:17

Thanks ssmile. We just gave lo his bowl of baby rice - two spoons of rice to 20 of formula. He ate it all! And followed it with his bottle. Not sure if it will help his sleep but am now pretty sure that he was ready for it.

I'm off to bed now in the hope of getting more sleep.

Hope everyone else gets good nights!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 07/02/2012 20:35

The article on weaning early is here

QueenRunningGeekMum · 07/02/2012 20:37

And this is an article about spoon fed babies being fatter

Minkyjj · 07/02/2012 21:21

Baby rice shovelled on, trip to hv today who agreed totally with my stance on the weaning (I probably looked slightly crazy and she was too scared to disagree !). Have spent the day shopping for weaning bits. John Lewis do really good deep ice cube trays that stack on top of each other - expensive but worth the investment if you plan to cook for lo and not use baby jars which work out pricy too. I now have 3 trays of purée pear and 3 trays of carrot. Tomorrow I will click the little cubes into freezer bags and away we go. Apple cubes and butternut squash will be made tomorrow (lidl have cheaper apples this week). I am also ready with the avocado which doesn't require any cooking and banana - oh how did I end up back in baby mush land ????? Anyhow, absolutely exhausted, so much so that I agreed a sleepover for eldest dd whoch is next Tuesday - bloody valentines day - typical. Well at least it will take my mind off the fact that it will be a non event!

100years · 07/02/2012 21:21

Thanks ssmile. Mmm cake. Well I made a banana cake and it went far too quickly

Reiterating the points that others have made about comparing your babies to others wrt to how they sleep or how they are progressing and thinking you are doing things wrong is not constructive I feel, you have to remember that these little things we have produced are all one offs (even identical twins have different quirks to them) and so they all will do things at different rates. Eventually things will even themselves out, and the sleeping thing, well that's just the way some babies are. And I too would be pretty sure that a lot of mums over play how well their LOs are sleeping so as to seem amazing. I don't worry about how much LO wakes, I've stopped thinking I could do something different.

Loving hearing about all the tasting with the weaning stuff. It's a couple of weeks yet before I start, so I'll take tips from all of you. :)

Geekmum, sorry to hear of your middle of the night breakdown. Are you BF or FF? Is there some way of your hubby doing a night feed to help you out so you can get more sleep. Are you doing a lot in the day?

TP bless him, getting a tooth through, I thought we might be on the cusp of getting one soon, but it turns out to be a non starter and I think it was just the gum healing from the cut LO got off a toy at baby group.

Yes I saw that article a few weeks ago about the age of weaning and how they aren't sure if waiting till 6 months is actually good for the baby. I'm doing the EAT study where they would like you to wait till 6 months before doing any weaning, and I keep wondering about that side of it, and in a way I'm starting to count down to the end of 6 months, which I really don't want to be doing, but I still don't know if LO is quite ready now, but I'm not sure how much she will wait till 6 months. Who knows. The past few days have been a much lowered amount of feeding due to her having this cold/blocked nose, whereas I think she is making up for it now!

The thing is about weaning, the guidance changes so much, so often that it's really hard to know what is right and what is not anymore. I am trying to stick to 6 months EBF, if it turns out she needs stuff sooner then so be it. She isn't unhappy at the moment, so I think I will see how it goes.

Had a slightly green poo just now, the first ever! She has been snacking recently and so often only had a few mins on the boob, and because the last feed was a while ago off the other side I've swapped when she's wanted more and so poss not fed properly IYKWIM

Last night I had a painful feeding experience. I fed half asleep and was wondering why it hurt so much, turns out LO had my areola in her mouth and not my nipple and was going for it with her sucking, it was when I tried to unattach her that I realised what the problem was. I have a couple of broken blood vessels in that area now! But it was a slight LOL when I thought OMG I have a love bite on my boob!

tiddleypompom · 07/02/2012 21:37

Hee hee love bite on boob :o

Back to Angry now though - bloody high chair didn't arrive even though they emailed to say I had to stay in to await delivery. All day (apart from hour to take DS to docs for jabs when neighbours took over waiting). Rahhhhhhhh!!!!! Kiddisave you are in my grumpy books.

100years quite right about development - best to resist the lure of comparison!

Night all.

sebs71 · 08/02/2012 08:43

Quite agree 100years There are so many different studies, and guidance changes so many times that I think it's best to just go on instinct about your own individual and unique LO regarding weaning.

And, wrt to sleeping - I'm now getting what you all have been saying and am starting to believe there's little I can do that will make a huge difference with LO's sleeping habits. She's just had three different nights - one where she went 8 - 5am no waking up; the next night she woke 2am for a feed and really struggled to get back to sleep in her crib afterwards and ended up in bed with me and last night she woke at 12.15am for a feed, but fell straight back to sleep and went down in her crib all night! This is despite feeding the same amount each day and at roughly the same time!

I on the otherhand, still couldn't sleep even when she was fairly quiet and not thrashing about (which she does loads, and I often have to stop her from hitting herself awake!) ... YAY to get to Wednesday though - OH home tonight - should be home around the time I'm putting her to bed, so will be able to help out with the night... phew!! And kids back too, so house won't be so quiet!

I used to love living on my own... now, really find it strange and lonely (although LO is obviously lovely company) and can't wait for them all back tonight.

Blush on the lovebittten boob 100 !!

Right, I'm off to start my day properly - going to a friend to see her 6 week old... it's quite funny seeing the difference between her (she was 4 weeks prem so is still tiny) and my LO... you forget just how quickly they grow up!

sebs71 · 08/02/2012 08:45

Oh, and well done on all the prep Minky... hope your week is going ok and the weaning going well...

And geekmum - hope LO keeps enjoying the baby rice too

jojo1983 · 08/02/2012 20:21

Evening ladies
LO is now eating baby rice and puréed veg and fruit Im becoming a domesticated housewife (without the house and without being a wife lol) I must admit I can not cook to save my life so cooking vegetables was a huge achievement for me lol

LO is still not moving is quite happy to lie on his back even though I did see him trying to roll over today but looked quite surprised that he was on his side bless him

Sleep pattern has kinda gone out of the window but am still surviving even if i look and feel like a zombie!

Busy few days coming up Fri im off to the docs for my 2nd depro jab, Sun im off bridesmaid dress shopping for my best mates wedding, Mon its 1 year since of my OH big accident, Tue is valentines day Wed im off to the council about a house and thurs I have my sister niece and nephew down to visit!!!!

feralgirl · 08/02/2012 22:01

100 Ouch to the boob hicky! Shock

TP I am v v Envy of the red stokke tripp trapp. Ours is a boring black Baby-Dan rip off of the stokke and DS has hammered it for over two years so it's a bit battered around the edges. I am almost hoping that he has such a jealous melt down when I start putting DD in it that I will have to relent and buy her a lovely shiny new one Wink But boo to Kiddisave; that's not like them. IME their customer service and deliveries are always brilliant, I buy everything from them. I bet if you phoned and moaned they'd refund your delivery.

Jojo that sounds like a lot of nice things to do (in amongst the less nice). Best of luck with the council, fingers xed for you.

Hello to everyone else, hope you're all enjoying the feeding and that we all get some excellent sleep tonight.

Final batch of jabs today. DD howled for a while and wouldn't settle for a nap this afternoon until I gave her a shot of calpol, then she kipped for 4 hours straight! Thank god that's it for the imms until she's 1 but DS's second MMR is next month so I am dreading that. I reckon it'll be less easy to blag a 3yo about injections!

I think PITA is my fave MN acronym. I can't eat pitta bread without a Grin anymore. And has re-entered my speech since MN too, we used to say it all the time as kids.

tiddleypompom · 09/02/2012 09:12

Also glad for jabs to be over here - we also had to break out the calpol (day after) as DS was v hot and upset. It worked a treat and we had smiles again - was also an interesting experiment to see if he would take a spoon in his mouth. As suspected our little pudding opened his mouth for more...

I did phone kiddisave - got through eventually and was told that a glitch in their system had sent out emails by mistake telling customers to expect delivery. Hmm. Anyway out shiny new highchair is 1-2 weeks away now. Not so upset as I am holding off weaning till 22+ anyway and the highchair would just have encouraged me :)

Can I ask if any of you are thinking of TTC again anytime soon? I remember a short chat about contraception choices and there were a couple using the 'fate' approach? We are also - and I have been thinking about how I'd feel. Very happy of course - but I am almost scared of the tiredness! Is it as bad as I think it would be, to have 2 DCs close together??

I watched OBEM yesterday eve - sobbed for most of it. Just contributed to a thread on dread of forceps delivery started by a preg lady who wants to refuse forceps and go straight to CS if needed. Shame that such an exceptionally awful birth on TV can scare people so much that a major op is preferable to assisted delivery :(

I can hear the little boy just waking so better go and get him up. Hismorning nap (usually 30 mins max) has been 1.25hours this morning - bizarre but I made the most of it and have a stew for this eve!

Happy days all

ssmile · 09/02/2012 13:45

No more ttc for me tiddly I've been sorting out the 3-6mths clothes and listing lots on ebay. My Lo is ready for next size up now ooh er its all going a bit quick this time :( I'm getting rid of tops my DD1 had but Lo just didn't wear as they were all shortsleeve the downside of having babies at different times of the year :) Lo finally had big poo yest after I think the banana bunged her up abit. Goodbye sweet smell breastmilk nappies hello smelly nappies ugh.

For those ttc quickly hats off to you! Lots of my antenatal group had another one within two years and it must have be flipping hard work but you do get two children into similar things at similar ages. Personally a 3yr age gap I'd think would be gd, your first is potty trained, can feed themselves, dress partly, climb in out of the car and is sleeping in own bed and you wouldn't need a dble buggy. Plus you get some funding for free nursery place. Free childcare when you need a break with two. We tried for that gap but have 4.5yrs as babies come along when they want too not when you want them too :o I found it hard it took us TWO weeks to conceive our first and two YEARs to conceive our second!

feralgirl · 09/02/2012 14:18

We very deliberately aimed for the 3 year gap so that DS would have his free nursery place and it has been an absolute godsend. I would have gone barmy otherwise.

I can't watch OBEM, it makes me cry too much and also makes me horrendously broody. Despite having hated pretty much every minute of being pg I cannot bear the thought of never again having that amazing post-birth floaty euphoria. We really can't afford a DC3, we'd need a bigger house, but I also don't like the idea that I am now going to be working solidly, no break, until I retire!

Was the forceps birth on OBEM really grim? My friend's baby was a right mess after her forceps delivery and I was really worried about having one. However when the time came and they were wielding them at me in theatre - having just decided that they didn't need to do an emcs after all - I was just grateful that someone was going to be helping me! As they were all shouting "PUSH" at me, I was yelling back, "why don't you f*ing PULL HARDER!" Blush

candr · 09/02/2012 14:41

Bugger it!!!! have twice written full reply to posts, had to deal with baby and then find I am logged off so reply did not post. Sorry for those not sleeping, well done to those who are.
Yeah to those with rolling and crawling, don't stress to those that have not (me included)
Yeah to being pampered for valenines, boo to DH as he is away!
Well done to those weaning, we are doing BLW so first yoghurt was messy but fun
Like OBEM as now feel empathy but makes me dread no 2 even more, I said NO to forceps on birth plan as they use ones called Kellands here to turn baby (not the ones used to pull baby out) and they are banned in USA and Europe as they cause damage lot, luckily needed no forceps.
This had better post now, sorry not to reply properly.
