The other benefit to the three year gap my mum said is when they are teenagers your not doing GCSEs and A levels stress in the hse on the same year :o my friend has just done that with her two said it was bit of nightmare year! Funny she is only five years older than me and just waved her eldest off to uni and I'm just starting with my DD2.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 09/02/2012 18:21

Had to take lo to hospital today for checkup on his weight. Still not enough weight gain so we've been prescribed turbo charged formula and given another green light on the early weaning. Bit of a stressful day but am hoping that a week of formula will really get his weight gain going!

Good god I haven't even thought about sex yet let alone ttc! Sorry tmi Blush but good luck to those trying!

ssmile · 09/02/2012 20:03

Hope the turbo formula helps queenrunningeek and you have less stressful day tom.

I feel bit bushwacked tonight and off to bed in a mo. Lo refused all rice today even when mixed with breast milk (& I hate expressing took real effort to get 2oz). Then I knocked the flipping pot all over the floor whilst Lo whaled in her chair. Put her on the boob and she was sucking like numatic drill! She been nonstop on the boob today and grissling when not. Red teething cheeks again.
Still last day of term tom, I will be glad of the break to the school routine we got some nice outings planned, I'm just praying DD1 doesn't bring tummy bug home as lots of kids been sick in the classrooms this week. Two more went home today at lunchtime from her class and the TA had been off with it too. It's my big fear especially when BF as it dried up my milk when I had one with DD1 was horrid. Right off to bed hoping my grissling Lo sleeps till midnight.

Minkyjj · 09/02/2012 23:24

Very Envy at thought of ttc as I must stop at 3 - as I never wanted kiddies that's quite an achievement for me - think I am addicted to my beautiful babies now! Also agree that the thought of not experiencing that amazing high post delivery is sad. I am also struggling to let go of breastfeeding as I have so loved it this time and the thought of never experiencing it again is quite sad. Saying that, lo only sleeps for an hour between feeds from the breast even if it's expressed but 3 hours from the bottle - think I am just so worn out that my milk isn't that rich. Lo did well on food today - creamed porridge for breakfast - 1 tablespoon of porridge mixed with his milk did actually tKe 30 mins to shovel in/out/in/out bit with sucks pm his bottle in between we got there and he was a very happy little man. Then we tried an icecube of purée pear and that was an amazing success as I am sure apple will be as it's very liquidy and sweet like breastmilk. Been put today and bought a Nuby bottle warmer for night feeds - would like to keep bf in day if possible and go for formula at night so he sleeps better - (would be easier other way around but he just doesn't sleep enough with my milk) off to speak to gp tomorrow about his wind issues - he really is the fartiest baby ever so checking lactose intolerance and if all okay will start sleep training soon as I need some sleep.
Dh due back in 2 days - kids so excited, I an soooooo tired. Will never agree to this again it's been way too much to cope with three kids, 2 separate school runs twice a day, beavers, gymnastics, streetdance, yoga and all the usual stuff in addition to a poorly little one, my sore throat and all the usual crap - there have been times when I have just felt so low on 2 hours sleep a night and the stuff that's happened. Anyway nearly there.....
Night all x

sebs71 · 10/02/2012 14:33

Yikes, Minky, how the hell are you coping? Well done for getting through the week. I found it difficult on my own and it was for half a week, with just the LO. Was so nice for OH and his kids to come back and have a full house again... although the "sshhh, baby is asleep" started almost immediately with them!!

As for ttc... Nope... although this is my first, it will probably be my one and only. Which is a little sad, but, I'll be 41 in April and have 2 step kids as well. There's no room for a fourth. TBH, I got to 38 years old, and having just spilt up from my crappy boyfriend of 5 years, and being faced with being 38 and single again I really thought I'd never have any kids. I always said I'd love a child - and one would do! So, feel very very lucky and blessed that at 38 and half years old I finally met "the one" and now have a beautiful and much wanted baby girl. That's enough for me... it's made me the happiest I've even been, so I don't feel the need for another.

And, in a couple of years I'll be running round after a toddler, and pubescent young teenage girl and a teenage boy undergoing his GCSEs... me thinks life is just about to get even more complicated!!!

geekmum - hope super charged formula lives up to its name... and weaning going well.

LO had pureed pear yesterday - all went down, so pretty good so far. Going for apple today, and then carrot tomrrow and butternut squash on Sunday.

God, how did it suddenly become half term????? It was only Christmas about a few seconds ago... OH is taking Monday and Wednesday off ... and we'll take LO and the kids swimming which will be fun. I BET he forgets Valentines though. I've got him a card and a new wallet, and I'm pretty sure he'll totally forget. Ah well... he's brilliant in other ways, just not at remembering little things like anniversaries, valentines etc etc (He does just about remember my birthday!)

My LO also normally only naps for half hour, but we're currently at one and half hours... so pretty good!!! Think she'll wake up soon though, been stirring so best go!

100years · 10/02/2012 19:30

TP, I've not used Kiddisave before, we tend to use Kiddicare, amazon or John Lewis if we are buying online. And you know my views on TTC :) I think although it might be difficult in the beginning with 2 very close, I think you also get the benefit of still being in that mindset (nappies, not quite got over sleeping issues (if you have any) etc) I am quite happy about it, and would have been had it happened earlier on.

sebs. I know what you mean about seeing newer babies and comparing how much they have grown. I saw a 2 week old today and thought OMG, Turns out E was smaller than that baby at birth. So teeny. Got her weighed today, 13lb12, so she's not hit the 1stone mark. And I think it's great you have found 'the one' and now have a beautiful baby :) I too split from someone, and didn't think I would find someone to have a family with, but I met my partner 2 1/2 years ago and I have never been happier.

I've started Shredding. Whoa, hard work, it's kind of like torture, that you just want to carry on with.

I also met a couple of other mums at the BF group this morning and they have also waited till 6 months before weaning, one of them said their LO was waking loads in the few days before weaning, and it's not changed yet!

Re the boob hickey, I've nearly had another one. And E keeps trying to feed off my chin! When she is hungry, she's started pulling herself to my face (when she is being held) then promptly sucking my chin! She's still waking about 4 times a night, am bushed a lot of the time, but I feel like I am still doing OK with it. I find waking in the mornings the hardest, once I'm up, I'm OK.

jojo, won't be long for him to be rolling over then :) Fingers crossed about the house.

feral, I never heard boak before MN. How is LO now after the jabs?

ssmile, poor little thing, hope the teeth come through soon for her. You saying about your friend being 5 years older and waving off her eldest to uni, I have a friend the same age as me with a 'child' who will be 18 this year, and another one with a 16 year old!

candr, I also put no kellands forceps in my birth plan, would have been OK with the low forceps, but not the high ones, and if I do have another one, I will say the same thing again.

Geekmum, hope the turbo charged formula helps. Never TMI in here I think.

Minky, I bet you are looking forward to DH coming back.

tiddleypompom · 10/02/2012 20:30

Golly well done 100 I always read updates meaning to mention everyone and then I get to messaging and my pregnancy stupid brain makes me forget what is what and who is who and oh dear, I have had a glass of wine...

I think I had always wanted around a 3 year age gap - in my ideal world (i.e. pre-DS daydreaming). My brother and I are spaced 3 years apart and have always got on really well, plus I had the joy of being home alone with mum whilst he went to school when I was v little. My outlook has changed since Sept however - partly through the joy of having my gorgeous boy and the realisation that I can be a SAHM and still be fulfilled, and partly I guess is the fear that leaving it may diminish our chances of having another. We have so many friends (as well as relations) who are struggling at the moment.

Anyway. I looked at my discharge note this afternoon, to see which type of forceps were used in my delivery. They weren't 'kelland' but were long curved 'neville-barnes' - whatever that might mean. The OBEM episode seems to have caused a fair amount of upset, judging by the number of sad threads about traumatic birth memories being triggered by that awful stuck baby delivery.

minky I was thinking to today how you must indeed be a supermum for coping with your DCs minus DH. Heavens, we only have the one baby and I am shattered at the end of most days! Have a badge :)

I read the River Cottage Baby & Toddler Cookbook today (bought when on maternity leave) - my new favourite book! The recipes are brilliant (as you can imagine from RC they are all seasonal and inventive and totally scrummy) but also there is lots of advice about weaning generally, plus eating issues (faddy eaters etc). I really recommend it.

No more from me as I suspect this is a veritable essay and is mildly wine fuelled Good night all, and happy weekends...:o

tiddleypompom · 10/02/2012 20:33

By the way - are we all past the last jabs now? A jab-free zone? Can't say I enjoyed those - but nothing as bad as that heel prick test . I think I am not over that yet...

So can teeth officially take over as Latest Horror?

QueenRunningGeekMum · 10/02/2012 22:09

Lo seems to be liking the food and turbo formula, he couldn't finish all his lunch or dinner though which I'm taking as a good sign as he's never refused food/ milk before, so we must be finally filling him up!

Anyone that manages alone with kids, even for a short while, is amazing in my view. I guess you just get on with it to a certain extent, but I sit counting the minutes till DH gets home!

feralgirl · 10/02/2012 22:12

Ooh, I am definitely getting the RC book, it sounds great. We're eating loads from Jamie's 30 Min Meals atm, of which a lot are quite toddler friendly, but I don't suppose DD will like them much once she's ready.

Well DD has been thoroughly rubbish this week and woken every two hours, dunno whether it's down to her jabs or a growth spurt or just gearing up for solids. I've been in school twice to do my KIT days so I'm knackered but at least DH has been around to do his bit, are Mr Sebs and Mr Minky home again now? It must've been hard work for you both.

GeekMum, I'm interested to know what's in your rocket fuel formula? How's it different to normal formula? TBF, I don't really know what's in normal formula either; it's made from cow's milk right? And fortified with loads of stuff?

DD had her first taste of formula today because both the massive bags of EBM that I left in the fridge split and spilt everywhere Angry DH said she quite liked it but she BF solidly for about 3 hours when I got home this evening and I'm not expecting much kip tonight Sad

Who was it whose DC's got the first tooth? Was it you TP or Ssmile because baby ssmile's the oldest? I've lost track...

QueenRunningGeekMum · 10/02/2012 22:12

Oh and TP we've done all our jabs. I can't really remember the heel prick test being that bad, but it was after a week of various procedures on lo so probably in comparison was nothing!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 10/02/2012 22:17

Feral it's got loads of calories in it, 100 kcal per 100 ml, normal formula is only 66 kcal per 100 ml. Also packed full of minerals and vitamins as it's used for malnutrition. My lo seems healthy and not lacking in anything so for him it's all about the calories, my bm must be skimmed!

100years · 10/02/2012 22:46

Geekmum, that's good news then Grin

TP I'll look up that book. Had a few HFW recipes I love to cook just recently Smile I can only really do long everyone replies on the computer as I type in text edit so I can see the thread too and reply from there. On my phone it's a whole different ball game. Dependent on if I'm using the mn app or going through web browser! But I'll shut up now.

LO has gone backwards in getting her off to sleep, it's taking an age, it doesn't help that when we put her down if she's not half asleep she tries (and succeeds) to roll over, then she's all head up looking round, wriggling and moving. Feels a bit like when we tried to get routine started, only it's different now. Sad hard work, but I'm sure we'll get there again.

100years · 10/02/2012 22:50

Re teeth, think it was Jimmijam's LO with a couple of molars ages ago, well before Christmas.

We're also having frequent night wakenings too feral, 4 times last night. I'm just glad I'm not back at work or doing kit days.

ssmile · 11/02/2012 07:08

No teeth ere my first DD didn't cut any until 13mths but "teethed" for gd 8mths she had tough time with it, so I'm hoping its not the same this time around. The lack of teeth didn't affect her eating though.

Sorry will come back later I typed.long reply then my phone crashed and Lo going bonkers now...

tiddleypompom · 11/02/2012 08:01

No teeth cut here either - lower one got as far as just under the skin and then stopped! I can see it (and feel it when he gnaws my fingers!) but no eruption...

I did dream feed last night(10.15) as DH out with his mates. Woke this morn to happy noises coming from ds's room at 7.15!! Tis amazing. He wasn't too bothered about morning feed either so reckon it's time to drop dream feed - though tempted to wait till weaned...

Was thinking of your wriggly daughter 100 in her cot practising gymnastics - what is it like trying to change her now she is on the move?!

As yet still static here :)

Glad RC book appeals - it really is lovely.

Happy days all

sarahseager · 11/02/2012 08:40

Morning all,

Hope you don't mind but I'm here to vent as lo has just given up wanting to sleep - apologies in advance for the long post!

We were very spoilt as she pretty much slept through (10 - 6) from around 8 weeks which was the only thing keeping us sane with the screaming from reflux in the day! However over the last few weeks she has been waking more and more which was manageable when it was 1 or 2 times and she was going back down ok but over the last week we have regressed to the point that when she went down at her normal bedtime of 8pm last night she only slept for 55 minutes! It then took a feed and an hour and twenty minutes to get her back down and she then only slept for 18 mins! I don't normally keep a note of such precise times I was just particularly taken aback this time! In the past she has always done a good chunk of sleep in the first part of the night as she always goes down at bedtime quite well but now that seems to have gone too!

I feel like we've made a rod for our own backs as she always ends up coming into our bed at some point in the night as that's the only way any of us can get any rest and I did manage to get her to sleep for nearly 4 hours but she's pretty much been awake now since 5.30 with no sign of sleeping anytime soon.

She has shown some signs of teething for a while now but doesn't seem upset with it and we have also been trying her on babyrice as she was showing all the signs of being hungry and interested for food but her sleep has only got worse since we did that. Now questioning whether this was the right thing to do.

The other thing is that she thrashes around so much, I'm not sure if this is normal or a reaction to the pain from her reflux as she is twisting and arching her neck and back into strange positions and I have heard this can be a way for them to deal with the pain but she isn't crying about it she's just on the go all the time and breathing so quickly like she is really excited, it seems impossible to get her to relax! I just have no idea what is normal and she has always been such a tense jerky baby.

In the day she naps well if out in the car or pram but if we're at home she will sleep for barely 30 mins at a time if I'm very lucky.

I know a lot of you are experiencing significant changes with your lo's sleep at the moment and I know this is probably just something that we have to get through i just felt I needed to post for solidarity if nothing else.

DP has now just managed to get her to sleep by standing under the extractor fan for a while - it's like we have a newborn again!

Hope you all have lovely weekends and sorry for the rant!

Xx

QueenRunningGeekMum · 11/02/2012 09:09

Sarah big hugs your way. As you know I've had similar with my lo over the past month, progressively getting worse and resulting in me walking out the other day in frustration, so I know exactly where you're coming from.

All I can say is keep repeating the mn mantra: this too shall pass. I really think it's very common at this stage to have sleepless nights but it doesn't make it much easier to get through.

I had actually come on to say how my lo seems to have turned a corner, 4 nights ago he woke 6 times, 3 nights ago 5 times, 2 nights ago 3 times and last night twice, am hoping it's a sign of change! This has started since we began weaning on the higher calorie formula mixed with rice or porridge, upped his meals very quickly to three a day and did fairly large quantities. Weaning perhaps needs a bit more time to start working Sarah?

Really hope it improves soon, I was like a zombie walking with ds waking and DH snoring all night!

sarahseager · 11/02/2012 09:23

Thanks Queen, I'm glad things are getting better for you it must be such a relief to have had some better nights.

You're right I do need to give the weaning more time, I'm just so scared I've made things worse but perhaps now I just need to persevere. I was worried about giving her too much too soon but she keeps opening her mouth for more so maybe I should start giving her some at lunch time too and maybe introduce some sweet potato tonight for tea. I just feel like I've lost all my confidence that I know what I'm doing, because we've had such a struggle with the reflux I just want to be sure I'm doing the right thing but I just don't know.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 11/02/2012 09:35

Certainly yesterday when I gave lo lunch for the first time, it was the first time he refused to finish the meal. Can't promise it will work overnight (or at all) but if you're where I was three days ago then anything's worth a try!

One thing that help me a bit is DH took the 'early night shift' of trying to get lo to sleep, and that's when I went to bed - ie before lo was even having his bath. Gave me a break. Don't know if that will work with your routine.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 11/02/2012 09:35

*helped

sarahseager · 11/02/2012 10:01

Good idea about the shifts, it's so weird though as its just like what we used to have to do when she was tiny but I kind of need to not worry about that!

sarahseager · 11/02/2012 10:27

Are you just on baby rice still Queen or have you introduced veg/fruits now too?

QueenRunningGeekMum · 11/02/2012 15:07

We have baby porridge in the morning, baby rice lunch and dinner. Alongside the baby rice he might have a taste of whatever we're having, and a piece of bread (think one bread soldier size) that he can chew on (although he usually leaves most of this). This lunchtime he tried some mackerel, yesterday a bit of chilli con carne.

I'm ordering a whole load of fruit and veg for shopping next week, we tend to be a lots of fresh veg kind of family but rarely have fruit in. Am going to buy a mini food processor to make my own purees Grin

QueenRunningGeekMum · 11/02/2012 15:08

Btw when I say taste I mean it - I haven't actually fed him mackerel just yet!
