Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
100years · 26/01/2012 02:03

Oh great, I've taken her off because her latch was so poor it was hurting me, she seemed 'awake' with eyes open when trying to wind her. I've changed position and gone to re attach and she's now not interested and gone back to sleep. All in the space of 60seconds. So I'm awake with a sore nipple, she's asleep now with a very short feed. She'll no doubt wake up in an hour wanting more. Gah. Don't get me wrong, I love feeding her, and I know it's a phase but Sad [criesalittle]

Fingers crossed I'm wrong and she sleeps till at least 7am

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 26/01/2012 04:34

Hi folks I've missed loads will try and catch ip.

Fighting to feed ds he's got a temp Sad calpol done but not so bothered about feeding.

Latest lovebeing news? I'm so over the screaming.

Hope you are all well x

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 26/01/2012 04:41

Ssmile you night feeding is tge same as mine except the 11pm is around 9:30-10:30 whenever he has decided it's bed time. I just can't get him to go to bed earlier Confused

100 - that baked curry looks fab gonna have to try it, wonder if it would work well in my slow cooker....

Oh and am now getting totally fed up of the biting [grr]

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 26/01/2012 04:57

Surestart vits - glad they are giving them out, in my area they've not had much take up.

Tv with dd and dh thR around I only get to choose when it's just me and ds so no he doesn't get any choice right now. Although we've just finished the first season of Dexter and I did make sure he wasn't watching it Blush

Just got Netflix sorted through tge wii, it's got a months free trial ATM

Also ds is enjoying another of his sisters hand-me-downs, a jumperoo Grin

QueenRunningGeekMum · 26/01/2012 08:25

100 hope you got some more sleep.

Loves I had to hide lo's eyes from True Blood, I won't watch it now that he's a bit more observant!

Just ordered a Sophie...

QueenRunningGeekMum · 26/01/2012 08:28

Oh and 100 just did a quick look through the recipe - looks yummy, might have to adjust it slightly for the ingredients I have and do it in the slow cooker!

tiddleypompom · 26/01/2012 10:31

Swimming was a success! Lovely big changing rooms with bassinets helped and kids pool v shallow with steps to sit on. After initial wide eyes he settled into it and the smiles came eventually. We were all shattered afterwards and cake was consumed at local cafe whilst the boys slept it off. Result!

Roofer working today so expecting interrupted naps - have decided to take a long walk to a friends house over lunch, hopefully DS will nap on the way.

Vit d in the news today - deficiency in babies that is. Come on sunshine so we can get those babies outdoors more!

Right, off to play!

ssmile · 26/01/2012 11:34

Thanks for chicken curry recipe sounds nice going to buy some ingredients today to try out at wend.
Had tough day yest was hungry all day and tired not great combination for trying to stick to my diet. So went to bed at 8pm and was rewarded by getting 3whole hours of sleep before Lo woke up, but then she up 1,3,4-5.30,7.30 so very glad I banked some early sleep in. Was feeling bit glum this morn then weighed myself and lost 2lb this week and walking to school my new pants size 16 I bought yesterday fell down! :o made me very happy so with new energy did day 8 of Shred Dvd :) have vowed to take Lo swimming next wk to baby classes as she definitely needs more stimulation now and feeling guilty I'm not doing any where near as much as I did with first DD.

Off for walk in sunshine now to get my vitD

100years · 26/01/2012 11:36

Loves, is DS better this morning? Let me know if the slow cooker thing works. I have little success with a slow cooker, things never taste seasoned enough in it and it ends up bland.

Geekmum, I did actually get some more sleep, she went from them till nearly 5am, then I woke at 7 to discover her on her tummy, very quietly breathing so I checked she was OK, then I couldn't get off again knowing she was on her tummy, she seemed fine though and slept till almost 9 like that! I wish I had relaxed about it. Again, if you do the slow cooker thing let me know too please.

TP that sounds great about the swimming, shame about the roofer.

Well I'm feeling a bit meh just now, think it was the middle of the night bad latch thing, my nipple really hurt and I ended up having a bit of a cry and wanting to wake OH up for a cuddle, but I didn't think he would have appreciated a snivelling person at 2am! I think that although the TT thing has helped, there are occasions now where if the latch is poor it hurts more than before because she can move her tongue more and therefore my nipple rubs more against the roof of her mouth, before she couldn't get it to do that as her tongue didn't stretch up as much so was more nipple hanging before, whereas now it's not in far enough and being pushed against her hard palate. Suppose I need to work on getting the latch right the whole time, which is hard when you are half asleep at 2am.

I feel like I need a big hug though today.

100years · 26/01/2012 11:37

Oooh x post ssmile, enjoy your walk, and well done on the continued weight loss. :)

feralgirl · 26/01/2012 14:02

Minky DD also loves her Sophie (or "soaky" as DS calls her). They are brill aren't they, although I do have to remind myself from time to time that it is essentially just a posh dog toy!

Poor 100 Big un-mn virtual hugs and a Brew for you. Sounds miserable but I'm sure your DH would have given you a cuddle, even if he'd only been half aware of it!

Re TV and babies, I think I remember reading something which was 'proper' research saying that it is a massive no-no for under-1s and, on googling I found this and this but it's hard to tell how good the research is isn't it? DS certainly used to have the telly on when he was weeny (sitting in his bouncy chair in front of the TV was the only way to get him to take a bottle) and he doesn't appear to have turned into an angry half-wit (or at least, no more than your average 3yo). DD is probably absorbing a fair bit of TV too as she will watch Chuggington with DS after he's eaten his tea. So I dunno really.

DD has done a couple of reasonable nights, she only had one feed the night before last and two last night. Despite swearing that I would never read another parenting book, I was suckered in by the interesting title of French Children Don't Throw Food and it reminded me that it's sensible to wait and see what a baby is doing when it wakes in the night and to give it a chance to go back to sleep. I realised that I am much to quick to pick DD up and whack her on the boob and there's not necessarily any need unless she's actually crying so I have been leaving her to wriggle about and blow raspberries until she goes back to sleep which seems to have worked.

This book says that French parents expect their babies to sleep through by 4mo and that they almost all do! Hmm I don't know any French parents so I'm not sure about this claim...

QueenRunningGeekMum · 26/01/2012 16:21

TP glad the swimming went well!

100 I had the same problem with a blister developing in my nipple over Christmas. It took about a fortnight to heal. Sad but now it's much better and bfing is a pleasure again Grin

Thanks for the info on tv. I'm probably being pfb about it, having allowed ds to watch some tv I'm now getting anxious that I've ruined his brain Sad. But then my mum allowed me to watch tv and I think I'm alright Hmm!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 26/01/2012 16:23

Oh and well done on the weight loss Ssmile

100 big hugs your way.

sebs71 · 26/01/2012 19:33

Wow, there's been a lot of posts in the last day or two! So forgive me please if I don't get round to everyone!

Feral - interesting about the French though can't believe all French babies sleep through, though I'm sure they have different attitudes to us.

100 - virtual hug coming your way... hope it's not too late in the day!

Ssmile - good weight loss again, well done. I've managed to lose 2lb this week, so good start... lots more to go.

Thanks for the wedding comments guys... love the idea of lots of virtual hats and virtual hen nights!! Will keep you all posted on progress, though all a bit quiet whilst the venue gets its wedding licence. My friends are pressing for dates and ideas for hen night - I've no idea what I want to do.

Got some lovely news - a friend for mine from work has had a little girl today - Lily May. She has tried for a baby for about 6 years, and this little one was the result of her 4th IVF (2 sucessful IVFs but both resulted in miscarriages, and 2 didn't take). When she lost the 2nd successful IVF baby in 2010 she was so devastated. Many told her not to try again as it was so stressful. But, bless her, she knew she wanted one more try - and now has a daughter. I'm sooooo happy for her. She was having problems towards the end too with low fluid, and has been in hospital since Tuesday and had a C Section today. So, another LO for my LO to play with!!!

My LO is struggling a bit with some of her bottles - I think because of her teething - you can feel the front two teeth coming through. I think it hurts when she sucks on the bottle. Wish we could take the pain away - we're putting teething gel on to help soothe. They do have a trying time of it in their first year... it's a good job we don't remember things from our first years!!

Had her weighed today - she's 15lb (19 weeks tomorrow)... no wonder my back is killing me! Also have "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" - pins and needles and pains in my right hand - have to wear a wrist brace at night to see if that helps. GP told me off for carrying LO in her car seat - but she was sleeping - didn't want to get her out!

Hope everyone has better nights... x

tiddleypompom · 26/01/2012 19:52

Hee hee a posh dogs toy, I like that! DS has a good gnaw on his every day. Just don't wash in a bowl of water as the squeaker goes weird!

Hugs to 100years - rotten to have pain whilst feeding after you have done so well. Hope you get more sleep tonight and meantime know how brilliantly you are doing and what a happy, chatty little girl you have. This too shall pass!

Virtual hen night eh? Well I'm up for that! Lovely to hear wedding news - and a new much wanted baby girl (with the name our Dd would have had if we'd had a girl!).

Our pudding has been lovely today but has lost the ability to self-settle at his longer lunch nap. He wakes after each sleep cycle and cries (eyes closed). I go up and try reassurance (shush pat), then cuddles, but he can't get back to sleep unless I b/feed him. Don't think it is hunger. Any ideas? I can't cc.

Kirsty and Phil time!

Minkyjj · 26/01/2012 22:48

I read all the posts and now forget who said what - sorry peops. Sebs - on the teething issue, have a look at Baltic Amber on the web - my friends with disabled kiddies rave about the stuff - meant to help with teething pain and dribbling - have just ordered two anklets for lo to see if it helps him. Also the Sophie giraffe doggy chew Wink is very good I am finding.
100 - really with you in more ways than one - keep getting a blocked milk duct and a blister on my nipple and severe engorgement. Bf was going so well but I am losing the will now because of this constant pain. Spent the morning in the shower/massaging and expressing and now feel like my boob has been beaten up! Told poor dh who has to go to the doc tomorrow because of a painful bollock that I know how he feels! tmi !!!!! I have just ordered lecithin capsules - they are meant to help stop milk duct blockages - let's hope it works. Also getting lo to take a bottle once a day now - the comfort milk seems alot better as it's reduced lactose - he doesn't seem as windy.
Tomorrow is a sad day - funeral of a friends dad who died suddenly last week of a heart attack - going to be tough but have lo to sob over if needs be. Then my father is deigning to visit and has arranged my brother, sil, sister and her boyf to come over to me for takeout - let's see if people really don't mind things messy and unkept Wink
Lol at the French babies info - two of my bestest friends are French - one has twin dds and a ds - I can promise you, their babies don't sleep any better than ours. However they have a special biscuit which they put in the milk bottle at night and which thickens the milk - that's probably why those babies sleep well - I always sleep better after a rich tea ! The other thing they do better than us is getting their kiddies to eat loads of more unusual foods - alot of raw veggies etc - I think we assume too much that kids will be fussy so we create our own problem. I gave ds1 alot more fruits and veggies than dd1 and he has a much better palate for healthy food. Must try my theory on ds2 and see if it works !
Well- sleep is beconing me nearer. Hope you all have a lovely Friday and good start to the weekend. Grin

feralgirl · 27/01/2012 11:34

Ahhh, Minky that's interesting about the French biscuit thing. My mum had something similar that the dr told her to give me (at 6 weeks old Shock, well, it was the 70s!) You've reminded me about the amber that someone recommended it to me for DS but he cut all his teeth so quickly that I never got around to getting any. I'm def going to give it a try this time though.

TP, DD is exactly the same, waking after one cycle during her naps. DH was 'in charge' of her yesterday and he managed to shush-pat her back to sleep but if I do it then she generally demands milk. DS was exactly the same but he grew out of it once weaned and less reliant on me.

Sebs I am dieting hard so that I can get into a virtual posh frock for your virtual wedding Grin

How are you 100? Hope you're feeling better.

candr · 27/01/2012 16:55

We have amber necklace and seems to work as he dribbles and gnaws his hand more when not wearing it. Am thinking about giving DS a bit of porridge with expressed milk at night as he keeps waking for food but feel I am not making enough to settle him. Think if he is full and misses 1am feed I will have more milk for 3am feed so he may sleep better after that (hope so as we were up at 4am with him giggling and a million miles from sleep)
Am thinking of getting hair and nails done for virtual hen do, might be really outragous with new style!
Have my twin sis to stay tonight so she can have bonding time with her nephew and sure she has lots of birth related questions as we have had no time alone since before that, don't want to scare her but need to be honest and don't want to look like I am being insensitive as she is desperate to have a baby but not in right situation yet. Can't wait till DS has cousins to play with, his only one so far is 18 and a sulky so n so. Hope you all have good weekend.

ssmile · 27/01/2012 19:24

Had bit of worrying day as gd friend was admitted overnight over concern for her baby, she only 32wks, she been on nil by mouth all day in case of section but just been told she can eat so fingers crossed the baby stays put for a couple more weeks as they not had easy time of it.

ssmile · 27/01/2012 19:33

Opps! Phone posted before I finished.
I also went to a slingmeet today to ask advice over using my MobyWrap as I can't get on with it. I tried a mei tai wrap instead and was more comfy as less fabric around baby she seemed more comfy but bit fiddly to use on school run. Think I'm going to sell the Moby wrap and get a sling type carrier so babe can sit on my hip more as will be more suited to my needs now babe is bit bigger.

100 hope the feeding gets easier again and pain eases. Is it worth trying nipple shield for week to allow soreness to heal? It really helped me and babe adjusted off them again quickly.

Ooh virtual hen and wedding like that idea, will get busy sewing my virtual dress :) lovely size 10 .....(ive never been a size 10!)

sebs71 · 27/01/2012 19:34

This is going to be a smart virtual hen do and wedding!!!

Just looked up the Baltic Amber - Minky let me know how you get on... I'm thinking might get something if it does work.

Had a bad night last night, and been shattered all day. Am wondering whether to start weaning or not, but apart from waking earlier for feed, she's not really showing signs of wanting food... so, despite others saying I should start and she might sleep better, I'm not convinced. I want to start when she wants to, not to try and get her through the night (although that would obviously be nice!) So going to hold off for now but monitor closely. We tried hungrier milk tonight for first time (OH had got some by mistake a while ago!!) which she took all at once, no stopping or fussing! Let's see if it staves off hunger for a little longer tonight... Ummm, ...

Candr - have a lovely time with your twin!!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 27/01/2012 20:48

Right, lots to get through! (as always, we're a chatty lot!)

Minky I hope the funeral was ok. And that your takeaway meal is yummy!

Candr hope you have fun with your twin! I say give her all the gory details... But I'm mean!

Ssmile sending positive vibes your friend's way, I hope everything is ok and the baby is safe.

Sebs where is the virtual hen going to be? We need to virtually book our rooms so we can virtually drink.

Weaning - do what your instincts tell you! My postnatal group 'teacher' (leader? Guider?) has said that the most important hurdle to weaning is the baby's instinct to push food out with their tongue. Once they stop doing this (usually around 6 months but can be sooner) then you can wean properly, but before then you are best off just giving them solid bits to suck on to give them a taste of different flavours. In fact, given the quantities that they can take in one go, breast milk followed by formula milk contains the most calories and will fill them up the most. Don't know if that's what others have heard, seems sensible to me.

I honestly don't think that giving them a little bit of porridge etc will harm them at the moment though.

My friend had a baby girl today! Very pleased for her.

jojo1983 · 27/01/2012 21:04

Evening ladies

Ooooo a virtual hen do cant wait (wonder if my mum will babysit!) Sebs cant wait can we have a date so I can pop it into my diary!

Candr enjoy your time with your sister I love it when my sister comes to stay we act like we are teenagers again and spend half the night giggling away.

Ssmile my fingers are crossed that your friends baby will stay put for a while longer and your friend is out of hospital soon (hate hospitals)

Queen quite a few of my friends are due soon its so exciting Congratulations to your friend

Re weaning i#ve been very naughty and have tried my LO on baby rice he absolutely loves it. Milk just wasn't gratifying him enough any more and has always been a big baby (9lb 8oz at birth 95-98 centil ever since)

Took LO swimming today he absolutely loved it think he thought it was just a big bath! He was kicking his legs with excitement. Me on the other hand was dreading it haven't worn a swimming costume since i was 14 and cant really swim but must say it was a lovely morning and hope to now do it on a weekly basis.

Please can someone link me to the amber stuff for teething?

Sorry if ive missed anyone out am so tired

Have a great weekend everyone

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 28/01/2012 10:25

Queen - I know what you mean, when dd was a baby I was watching Nip/Tuck whilst she bf Grin defo not for babies eyes.

100years - I know what you mean about tge slow cooker and spicy stuff my last try seemed to have cooked out all tge heat from the chilli but this one I'm hoping will be different.....or I'll end up putting it in tge oven, depends on the day and plans. Also abit late but (((()))

Sebs - carpal tunnel sucks, I got it with dd and it defo got worse before it got better afterwards. In fact tge last couple of days I've been thinking it's made a return. Mind you it didn't really go completely Sad

Ssmile - loving tge virtual dress size Grin

Smile to all tge good news and Sad to all the bad news.

Ds seems much better today and getting abit predictable during the night. Now really want to focus on a proper nighttime routine and see if I can get him to bed before 10:30!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 28/01/2012 10:41

Jojo you're not being naughty, that's kinda what I was getting at - if they're taking it and not pushing everything out then they're ready for weaning. Glad your lo is enjoying the rice!

Sebs forgot to say Sad about the CTS - I had it during pregnancy but it disappeared literally the day I gave birth. It is horrible, I hope yours goes soon.
