Thread 4 - that's one a month!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cyclebump · 07/10/2011 16:27

Boil my veg Fizz. It's not ideal, obviously, but my steamer broke ages ago and, frankly, we were all probably raised on boiled/roasted veg and survived.

Have just been on a mammoth baby clothes shop as H was short on sensible winter clothes. M&S and Gap sales were good but the bargain of the day was a padded bear pramsuit (complete with ears on the hood and paw prints on the feet) for £13 in Mothercare! It was down from about £40 and it's super warm and gorgeously soft and fluffy. It also looks cute and has button in mittens. The staff checked I hadn't swapped a sale sticker because it was such a steal.

Score!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 07/10/2011 16:37

Fizz - are we supposed to steam veg? Grin I boil, roast, microwave, fry onions etc.

Cycle - bargin!

GsyGacheFiend · 07/10/2011 17:54

Grin at the shopping bags Ali

Fizz I steam veg in the microwave, less washing up.

As for monitors, ours is gathering dust this time round Blush

chillikat · 07/10/2011 19:56

caramel that's my plan with the monitor, just not quite got to turning it down yet. It'll be interesting to see who wakes up first tomorrow with no alarms on. She slept in today which I think shows that we were waking her up with DH's alarm before.

GlaikitFizzogOnaNeepyLantern · 07/10/2011 21:52

Oh I don't know, all the books I've read says to steam. I suspect it's healthier! But as DH and I are still living and breathing I'll just boil! B had carrot and mash tonight! photos on FB! He didn;t really eat much, but had a good sook!! We filmed it for prosterity!

I have sweet potato and brocolli for tomorrow :o

GGF how do you stem in the micro?

GsyGacheFiend · 07/10/2011 22:57

Fizz I've got a couple of these little microwave saucepans.
I just put a couple of tablespoons of water in the bottom and microwave them on a normal setting until they're done. You can get proper microwave steamers but this does the job very well. I particularly like the pouring spout on these as it means I don't burn my fingers or tip half my veg down the sink. Grin

Here we go again. Crap night last night means too much catch up sleep today which in turn means another crap night. Fedcat 8. Finally slept at 9 til 11. Then 11-1145. Feeding him now but anticipating a repeat of Wednesday night Angry

kittycatcat · 08/10/2011 05:07
Angry Dh comes in from watching the footy in the pub and I tell him Sam's gonna play me up and he says it's the weekend so I'm here to, it's not all about you and your predictions keep being wrong so we will see. He's still pissed off about my rant. I rang him at work and he said we will talk sat morning. But I wasnt wrong. I've had to feed s at 1150, 215 and 5. I tried giving him calpol but he pursed his lips shut and cried. Ice put the heating on as I think he's cold but not sure the one in his room is on and can't check til he's up.
architien · 08/10/2011 09:07

Kitty sounds like you're having a restless time. I think if I were in your situation I'd be tired and upset too. I think your H has inherited a tiny bit of that caustic retort from your MIL although he did at least say " I'm here too" which I hope to take to mean "it's the weekend so I can be along with you to deal with it". Give Sam lovely cuddles and giggles as much as you can together this weekend. It's possible that Sam is picking up on your (very understandable and valid) anxiety over that madhat MIL of yours. Try to have a good weekend, it would be good to get your H onside.

MrsW Your boss is a special kind of mean.

Fizz whoot for your work outcome...fingers crossed that you get your promotion at a point which is best for you.

We haven't started solid food yet so I'm listening quietly to your forays into vegetables and fruit. R is 23 weeks tomorrow at this point with F he had stolen a banana from my breakfast whilst I was letting the dog out the backdoor. I keep buying pears in case she seems ready. F has worked out how to open doors and turn taps on FULL. He thinks it's hilarious fun to soak the bathroom. In a fit of joy stemming from this new game he slipped and scuffed his chin and cheek on the wicker basket :(

On the broken house front. Blimey it's been a tough week. Heating and hot water now works with the understanding that it could break at any point (and is likely to) and although safe it really ought to be replaced. Fridge freezer is totally unrepairable. I've tried messing about defrosting, getting the coils spotlessly clean, paying for the manufacturer engineer to come but all to no avail. I've tried to get the manufacturer to replace it, tried the house insurance (as I've lost £100 in freezer food) neither will help. I've been trawling the net for something I can afford all whilst having to make a makeshift fridge in the garden of bucket of water variety. Concluson: I can afford freecycle. So I'm here hoping that someone is moving house and has a FF they don't want, worth a try. Current system is driving me mad as it potty training F.
R is growing out of her clothes so quickly, she's doing so well. She still sleeps with me (I prefer to have my own bed just now, long story) but I think that time is coming to an end soon sadly. We took her swimming this week with F and they had a ball together. It was wonderful to be together as a family.

In other news I've been given a hot air balloon ride from the guy who owns the company as I was organising a ride for my dad as a big gift for his retirement, 60th birthday and Christmas.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/10/2011 07:24

The hot balloon ride sounds fab Archi - it is something that appears on my bucket list.

Have you tried the classified ads in your local paper for a ff?

Did you have any luck with boilers scrap schemes/ grants? I kept an old boiler going for about a year but it cost me a fortune in repairs and it was so inefficient.

Off to the NCT sale soon. It's pissing down and I have got to get loads of stuff from my car into the hall - with I in the sling. This is not going to go well is it?! Grin

Starshaped · 09/10/2011 07:47

P is giving us a Sunday morning lie in. 7:40 and still asleep...and after a decent night last night! If somebody would have told me that 7:40 was a weekend lie in 5 months ago, I'd have laughed in their face but that's another story!

Mind due, the weekend has been shocking so far. I spent all night awake on Friday. Not because of P but because I was struck down by a vomiting bug. Horrible - it was like a horror film! It felt like the worst hangover of my life. Particularly unfair when I haven't been drunk for 14 months! Thank god it happened at the weekend though so DH could look after P yesterday. I felt rotten and was worried about her catching it so he was firmly in charge, with me doing nothing but feed her.

Hope everybody else is having a good weekend.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 09/10/2011 08:07

Ooh good luck ILike!

I'm in bed, with T slumbering next to me. He is so, so beautiful Smile
He is very awake in the evenings atm, last night it was 10.30 before he was down. But then he has only woken twice for a feed since which is progress.
And DS1 has spent all night in his own bed - yay! Potty training also back on track. No accidents since Wednesday Smile

arch you sound like you are having a rough time Sad (((hugs)))

kitty I hope you've had a better night.
You sound so stressed out and down, I wish I could offer some helpful advice.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 09/10/2011 08:08

Star - are you feeling better? What a nightmare!!

Cyclebump · 09/10/2011 08:38

There's clearly bad luck floating around as I managed to spill boiling water over my boobs last night while putting the lid on a hot water bottle for my bad back Sad

H then had a crap night of sleeping on me on the sofa, eve time he shifted he rubbed against the blisters on my right boob. Owwwwwwwww....

Life without a fridge is rubbish Arch, hope the situation rectifies itself soon.

Have some Brew Kitty, perhaps your DH would like some baby daddy time while you rest today?

And Star, that sounds horrific

Starshaped · 09/10/2011 09:27

Feeling much better today thanks. Have managed to eat some breakfast too. Hopefully it was a 24 hour thing.

Cycle Owwh! That sounds so painful. What a tender place to burn. Hope that you're ok and that it heals quickly.

Ali Good news on the potty training!

How are things today Kitty?

kittycatcat · 09/10/2011 10:48

arch well jealous of the balloon ride. You deserve it tho with all the housey stuff.

Ilike hope you shift all ur stuff at the sale and get some bargains.

star that sounds awful. Glad u feel better today.

Big ow cycle

Thanks for the support everyone. Dh took s to watch DH's bro play rugby yesterday so I did the ironing, had a bath with a glass of wine. I increased s' formula to 5 feeds yest as I'm drying up and hoped it would see him longer thru the night but he woke after 2 hours pretty much. I gave up at 6 and got him up but he wasn't really ready and napped after his feed.

Are you ok buck?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 09/10/2011 19:17

Buck are you alright?

BuckminsterFullerene · 09/10/2011 19:51

Yep, had a rant, got it out of my system but posted when I should have deleted the self indulgent whinging.

Sleep deprivation and weekend isolation is doing bad things to me. I've talked to DH about it.

Just a bad day, which is almost over. Teenage terrors to distract me tomorrow!

JKSLtd · 09/10/2011 20:12

Buck - I often post a whole pile of 'stuff' then delete before posting :) It helps though.

I made it out to the theatre last night (despite M's best efforts to feed for ages before settling) saw Jesus Christ Superstar - not everyone's cup of tea but I loved it, love all the songs, they're still going round in my head today :)

Having probs with DS1's teacher at school, have started a thread post-parents evening, if any teachers/older DC parents want to have a look. Very :( about it but also fired up & angry now, so will see what happens tomorrow.

Sorry for not namechecking, i have read it all then it seeps out through the colander-shape that is my brain :)

BuckminsterFullerene · 09/10/2011 20:24

I've deleted so many posts! I got to the point where the self-filtering mechanism had given up!

I'll have a look at your school thread, although I'm secondary (and not entirely rational) so probably can't help.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 09/10/2011 20:34

I do that, have rants and then delete. Very cathartic :)

JKS I don't have anything useful to add, just a

DS1 in bed, T still awake.

Buck - DH is peering over my shoulder and wants to know if your are a physicist or a chemist.

BuckminsterFullerene · 09/10/2011 22:53

Technically I'm a biologist (zoologist to be precise), but I'm 50% of the chemistry dept at our school. I've grown to love it!

GsyGacheFiend · 10/10/2011 00:15

Ooh Cycle, that does sound painful have a bunch of Get Well Thanks.

Enjoy your balloon ride Arch, You wouldn't catch me in one, I have a fear of heights but only if I could conceivable fall off Blush. I'm fine if i'm enclosed like on aeroplanes or in tall buildings. Ladders and cliffs however, no way. It's a shame really as my inlaws live 10mins walk from some lovely cliff paths. I've told DH if he takes the DC not to tell me as i'd be a nervous wreck until they come home againGrin

JKS Wasn't sure which school thread you started, could you link to it. I'm not a teacher myself but am good friends with several primary teachers.

I'd better get to bed, i'm back to work in the morning. Baby P will be fine, it's DS i'm more concerned about. He's been getting very clingy, and has already done the puppy eyes and "I don't want you to go to work Mummy" routine this evening. I've bribed promised him he can watch Toy Story when I get back tomorrow afternoon if he behaves himself for my mum.
