I was homeschooled for 5 years Milward... can of worms there!!!

PickasillyChristmasName · 12/12/2005 14:01

I was home schooled for a year

PickasillyChristmasName · 12/12/2005 14:01

And don't do dummies

milwardmincepies · 12/12/2005 14:03

Seems like I picked a good topic!!

PickasillyChristmasName · 12/12/2005 14:06

But am useless with slings and co-sleeping (need my own space - I sometimes think in an ideal world would have a superkingsize bed all to myself)

partypooka · 12/12/2005 15:59

Oh dear Cabe. You will be blanked. What a crying shame
Better than being sworn at!
Both dd and ds have had dummies. Swore I wouldn't with ds, but it'ssuch a comfort for him. With dd she would be equally happy being b/fed as having a dummy, but I'm sure her colic was aggravated by always having a full tummy. With ds, colic is less bad, but gets incredibly annoyed if I try and feed him when he's windy or unsettled (screams and arches his back as soon as the let down comes) - prefers the dummy. But I loathe the attitude that if you are breast feeding and all is well, you are not allowed to say this in case you upset people who didn't / aren't / had problems. Like it's something to be ashamed of.

milwardmincepies · 12/12/2005 19:52

agree partypooka - I've bf my kids - it's easy for me & what's great is there is nothing to organise!! - but I respect others choices plus when things go wrong. I feel that if a parent is happy with the choices they make & their kid is happy as well then all is good. With bf what is crucial is support - so I'll always 'defend' bf - but never critise someone for a choice different to mine.
Anyway.......hope all is going well for all. My dh got the xmas tree as a surprise today. The little ones couldn't beleve it. We'll decorate it during the week.

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 12/12/2005 20:57

Oh I know PartyPooka! I've been inconsolable all evening!

I think encouraging girls and women to B/f is commendable... I wish I'd had people like Milward around when I had Noop!!

Night night all... I'm trying for an early night tonight
xx

Simplyred · 12/12/2005 21:43

Good night all - how many sleeps till christmas

partypooka · 12/12/2005 21:54

So that's a mighnight bedtime then, Cabe?

isawjaamykissingsantaclaus · 13/12/2005 00:10

at comments on dummy thread. Didn't want to post on it in case I suffer a fate worse than death...ie being blanked!!!! The comments you made, milward/cabe obviously caught someone at a VERY bad moment. I consider myself very lucky to be a bf mum (great for mummy-baby time and requires absolutely no preparation!) and realise that for whatever reason some mums can't/won't bf. I also don't use dummies because I don't like them but maybe if my DDs were less settled then I would consider using dummies and perhaps save them from SIDS????? Like everything else in life, some people make choices and others have situations forced upon them.
Anyway, hope everyone is ok.
Wonderful news about arabica. Let's hope all goes well this time.
Hmmm, presents from DH for giving him 2 perfect, beautiful daughters???? I got some flowers - 2nd time was about 3 days after the event but I suppose that was special as I don't get flowers very often. Other than that, nothing. A friend of mine got taken to Cyprus on hols as a present for having her DD and got bought a £750 necklace while they were there. After she had her DS 2 years later they made a repeat trip for the matching bracelet!!
dthillswbomummy - Hope you had a great night out - think you deserve it.
Have just about recovered from DH's work do. Was nice to get out and have DH spoil me. Also had a nice weekend at my aunt's in staffs. All in all I've had 3 nights in the last week when I've been out and left DDs with others. They've behaved superbly each time. Seems they save their sleepless times for me!!
Beatie - Thanks for the inspiration for a christmas present request for Abigail - the bath support. Does it come with overenthusiastic elder sibling deterrent??
Best buy - tiny love arch. Perfect for fixing over the moses basket. It's really colourful and lets the little one bash the brains out of the snail/ladybird/dragonfly - all other mobiles are too heavy. Had this for DD1 and am using again for Abigail.
Worst buy - Mamas and papas moses basket rocking stand - doesn't rock on carpet and one of the restraining srap/bracket thingies snapped within a week of using it.
Night night all.x

PickasillyChristmasName · 13/12/2005 05:31

One 2 year old for sale.

Very friendly, talkative, generally lovely.

However, has tendency (ie tonight) to wake up at 2:15 am and is hopefully now asleep.

Comes with free 2 month old sibling (whom he loves). She wakes up at 4am but then goes back to sleep.

Lactation is a must for small sibling. Dummy not required .

Am hoping to get some more sleep now [yawn emoticon]

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 13/12/2005 08:51

Morning all.

Had a great night put after i recovered from the guilt trip DH tried re finances, his missed night out (not my fault everyone pulled out at last minute) and the fact that the kids have colds.

Paid for it when i got in though spent the rest of the night shuttling between dd's bedroom and the crib tending to the children. Got them both in with the gp this morning. Argued with new receptionist, she didn't want to book them in as they only have colds!!! I went mad as dd has been on calpol for 48hrs and is showing no improvment temp wise plus she is asthmatic also David didn't sleep much because he is full of snot he is not yet three months. The receptionist i usually talk to had to explain that they cannot refuse to book an appointment for a child under 5.

Simplyred · 13/12/2005 09:38

Morning!

I am a snore sandwich! I have spent a restless night bewteen snoring dh and snoring dd in her crib next to me! oh well collecting christmas pictures of the littlies today - can't wait!!!

Simplyred · 13/12/2005 09:43

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy - glad you were able to get out last night - sorry about the colds - hope the gp's go's ok.

PickasillyChristmasName - oh no early morning posts! hope you managed some good sleep in the end! - had any offers for the kids??? !

isawjaamykissingsantaclaus · 13/12/2005 10:31

PickasillyChristmasName - do you think we could get together and offer a BOGOF (nearly) 2yr old and 2mth old package? I've been up most of the night with one or the other too. DOesn't help that I've got a stinking cold myself. Felt rather guilty shipping DD1 off to nursery this am but couldn't cope with the 2 DDs and she actually seems ok during the day.
DD1 had first jabs yesterday followed by mammouth 5 hour daytime sleep so it's hardly surprising that she was awake during the night.
Glad you had a good night out dthillswbomummy and hope the gp can do something for your poorlies.
Simplyred - bet the photos will be lovely and ever so cute.
S'pose I'd better go and tackle some of the mess that seems to have appeared over night. Surely the house wasn't this dirty when I went to bed last night/this morning? Maybe I was just too tired to notice!
Hope everyone else ok.

isawjaamykissingsantaclaus · 13/12/2005 10:32

Ooops it was DD2 who had the jabs yesterday, not DD1!

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 13/12/2005 11:23

Ohh what a suprise asthmatic dd has a chest infection so that's the first lot of antibiotics for the winter for her then.

David has been given the old saline drops hope they work better with him than they did with dd at this age!!

andif · 13/12/2005 14:32

Just a quick post to say Happy Christmas to all!

Haven't had time to read posts properly yet, never seem to have time to do MN at all these days! DD doing well, seems to have had a permanent cold since first jab, so putting off next one for a while. Must read the dummy thread after all your comments! Nell has one, but I have been trying to use it only when unsettled during the day, and avoid her sleeping with it at night as don't want to have to get into that waking up when it drops out thing...I hate them really, but if it does the job..

We're getting her a (second hand) tippitoes bouncer for xmas - the boys loved theirs and it is supportive enough to use from 3 months - a God send if they like it!

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 13/12/2005 16:17

ooh does this mean I can get the door bouncer out soon?

PickasillyChristmasName · 13/12/2005 16:50

I have mastitus .

I am in pain (had to call DH to come home from work as I was so sore and had temperature etc). Now on antibiotics which I hope will do the trick.

DH took Alice for her second injections. Hope she is all right.

No offers for the double package yet.....but I#m hopeful.

Simplyred · 13/12/2005 17:40

oh no - PickasillyChristmasName - I'm sorry to hear your unwell so soon after your cold/flu

I'm having a period!!! oh well best get it out of the way before christmas - and may be just may be my tummy will feel smaller for it!!!!

£160 for pictures of the kiddies!!! cute pictures but really better get back to work and soon!

NoahTheRedNosedBaby · 13/12/2005 20:54

Pickasillychristmasname - Noah hasn't even had his first lot of injections yet! the nurse said as long as he had the by the time he went to school he'd be fine!!!OMG

milwardmincepies · 13/12/2005 21:06

pickasilly - sorry you've got mastitis. I've had this - not nice at all. Do you know what caused it? Sometimes can be preassure on the breast from snug clothing or a poorly fitting bf bra. I don't know what caused my mastitis but these are some common reasons for causing a blockage of milk ducts - leading to the bacterial infection. bf as much as possible from the infected breast to get the milk moving & help it clear up. best wishes xxx

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 13/12/2005 23:19
