Why not liberate Scotland and then run with a conservative majority?

Since Scotland is so mad for independence and is not homogenous with England why not set them free and then the Conservatives will have their majority?

I voted Lab in one of the red london constituencies. Do I have to move to Scotland because my priorities are different from other English people? Am I politically Scottish? I thought I was politically labour, didn't realise I had to vote according to my nationality ooops, if only I'd known.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2010 18:24

'Earthstar, do you realise how offensive and bigoted you appear?'

And how, erm, UKIP.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 07/05/2010 18:25

If you swapped "Scottish" for "black" and said all this stuff there would be ENORMOUS outrage.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2010 18:25

"I have to hesitantly say that all the Scottish people I have ever met 'dahn sarf' have been very unpleasant about the 'English'"

Yes, of course, because people are always over-eager to live in a place they hate.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 07/05/2010 18:26

the stuff about " all the Scottish people I have ever met 'dahn sarf'" etc I mean

FingonTheValiant · 07/05/2010 18:26

Also, I live 'dahn sarf' and have not encountered these scathing scots. Nor was anyone rude to me when I was in Scotland. Although I did get quite sweetly "ganged-up" on by my (French) dh and some Scots a couple of time. Old friends and all that...

expatinscotland · 07/05/2010 18:26

Exactly, Fanjo.

Not to mention the 'dahn sarf' term. Scots people don't know how to speak English, either.

FingonTheValiant · 07/05/2010 18:27

forget ukip, you need an English Nationalist Party. Make sure you liberate Cornwall as well, wouldn't want to give them anymore money when they're all so desperate for independence

Macdog · 07/05/2010 18:27
FingonTheValiant · 07/05/2010 18:28

Expat, 'dahn sarf' is how the southerners say it, it's an estuary accent

suncreamandagoodbook · 07/05/2010 18:28

Definitive proof that all Scottish people are completely the same.

which is why I said the people 'I' have met. Sorry if I came across as offensive, was merely adding my experiences.

School Meal Cost so unfortunately we do do pay for school meals however on the flip side Earthstar DD1 is in a P1 class of 22 soon to be reduced to 18 and also we usually get to go to the school we want, have less pollution, houses are less expensive, scenery is great and the people are lovely

seb1 · 07/05/2010 18:31

but it does rain a lot

doughnutty · 07/05/2010 18:32

Think Earthstar is misinformed about where the north/south, tory/other split actually is.

If you want Scotland to have independence then you might as well cut England in half from the Severn to Lincolnshire and anything above that line call it Scotland given the results. Also you'd have a mainly non Tory Greater London floating in the middle of England. Here

I don't believe the majority of Scots want independence and I think this thread is just another excuse for a load of bigots to offload.

So forgive me if I flounce.

JennyPiccolo · 07/05/2010 18:40

I agree that politically, we are pretty divided. Clearly we don't want a conservative government and studies have shown that on average, Scottish people lean more to the left in their political views.

So, in theory, yes, i agree we should treated like two separate countries, and I would support independence.

This is, however, not a choice that David Cameron, Westminster or anyone else south of the border should make. It's a choice for the people of Scotland to make democratically.

So, in essence, if you're not happy in England, do something about it, but whether Scotland is independent or not is no business of anyone else.

Earthstar · 07/05/2010 18:48

By that logic england can democratically decide to become independent of scotland and it is no business of scotland's jenny, surely?

OP posts:
JennyPiccolo · 07/05/2010 18:51

Yes. It's certainly none of my business, if that's what people in England want. For a start, I'd fully support an English parliament, it's pretty unfair that you don't have one.

also would keep the BNP south of the border, but i wouldn't wish that on anybody.

unfitmother · 07/05/2010 18:52

Bloody hell!

What a classic example of Tory attitudes we are seeing displayed from Earthstar, you couldn't make it up.
I'd love to think it was a satire from an upset Labour supporter but it's not, is it?

Waves to all Scots

JennyPiccolo · 07/05/2010 18:56

Tensions are running high, i don't think anyone's positive about the future after the results last night.

Waves back on behalf of my hoose

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 07/05/2010 18:57

What a ignorant little thread

drloves8 · 07/05/2010 18:58

....why do you want rid of scotland? .....cant be done . scottish monach inherited england .scotalnd owns england the queen is scottish nah nah ne na nah. .

seb1 · 07/05/2010 19:00

On devolved issues, thank god we are in charge of our own education system, wasn't it the Tories the encouraged parental choice of schools in England and that looks like (from the threads on here at least) the most almightly pile of piss ever dreamed up.

claig · 07/05/2010 19:01

It would all be much fairer if they gave us a proportional voting system. I think the current system is disenfranchising voters across the entire United Kingdom. Liberals are not fairly represented, and England itself may not be fairly represented. The Scots have their own assembly. The politicians will never allow us our own English parliament, because that would be the first step to English independence, and they don't want that. The Tories are probably the foremost proponents of the Union, even if it doesn't benefit them electorally.

Earthstar · 07/05/2010 19:02

drloves you can keep the queen if you like
