Waiting in the U.S.

I beg the forum’s indulgence, since I know that the U.S. election is not directly of huge importance here, but, still, Trump’s contamination oozes into the broader world.

I don’t know if other Americans feel similarly, but for me this is like being suspended in limbo, waiting to see if the Democratic party will triumph over Trump’s Republican party. I’ve done the protests, I’ve done the volunteering, I’ve done the donations. And now it’s just a matter of waiting. I watch the statistics (Republicans have a tendency to denigrate polls if they’re not in their favor, but now even the prediction markets are forecasting a Democrat sweep). I read about the daily outrages, including his efforts to block votes. But, really, just waiting.

The main amusement is watching the vicious mockery. He’s being heckled at his own rallies. He’s sounding more and more unhinged, and it doesn’t help him that he’s backing some bad candidates. Lately he’s talking about scrutinizing men’s asses.

I’m finally daring to feel hopeful. But we’ll all be glad when this if over (even though we’ll just leap ahead to 2028).What an awful way to live.

I thought this was going to be about US tipping culture and waiters.

I'm watching with interest and some trepidation, @MsAmerica.

I disagree that the US election isn't of huge importance here - I think it is. The world is already paying for Trump's terrible decisions. Many of us are eagerly awaiting some sign that the American electorate are not going to tolerate this folly indefinitely.

Nofeckingway · 30/10/2026 15:14

I fear Trump . The kind of people who support him are not easy to negotiate with . They either are completely selfish and only see what his please the rich policy gains them . Or they are thick as shit stupid and you can't argue with stupid.

I hope he reaches a physical point where he can't continue . I'd like to say that I hope he gets removed some other but it's evil to wish death on anyone.

DulciUke · 30/10/2026 17:04

I think that the Dems will win the House but probably not the Senate. So many of the races are dead heats. His comments on men’s asses are beyond crazy.

Conservative reporter to man at Trump rally: Why are you here?

Man at rally: Well I was too young for Jonestown in the 1970s.
Reporter:….?

Man: Well I just want to see a cult up close…

MaggieBsBoat · 30/10/2026 17:07

I’m utterly gripped.
I’ve heard the GOP have stopped Trump from doing any more rallies now, which must be because he spouts demented nonsense and is doing more harm than good. I can’t wait to see that sweep! 🧹

Itsthewoluff · 30/10/2026 17:10

I think the whole world is watching and holding our breaths.

Lizzieregina · 30/10/2026 17:17

I’m heading out to vote shortly!! Can’t wait!

However I live in a blue stronghold (went 82% for Kamala) so I sometimes feel my vote doesn’t mean much.

I will be on tenterhooks on Tuesday night. I’ll be watching Michigan, Maine, Iowa, Kansas, Alaska, Ohio, Georgia, Texas and even Mississippi! Some of those I never thought would be in play. I’m still not convinced we can win in red states, but hopefully at least the purple ones will turn blue.

I’m also concerned about what the idiot will do. I do think he’s going to attack Iran again by Wednesday.

Autumnallaround · 30/10/2026 17:20

Op I am very invested and English.

I listen to the daily beast podcast and all the various Americast and RIPUS etc.

And of course my Instagram feed is all James talarico 😊

Fingers crossed the Dems get the blue wave.

IAmATrrrrraitor · 30/10/2026 17:52

Also watching with bated breath, but probably more with fear than optimism. I don’t trust that Trump won’t try to interfere with the process or the results.

Please don’t let us down Americans.

VeryQuaintIrene · 30/10/2026 18:08

I'm in North Carolina where we have a real shot at change, both with our senator and our house representative. It's stressful waiting although I took great pleasure in voting yesterday with the words of the president ringing in my ears - "Pretend I'm on the ballot." And I did and voted accordingly.

Is it evil to wish, as I have in the past, that he’d died of COVID back in 2020? Because I have numerous times!

And yes, I do sometimes hope to hear the news that he’s either dead or been hospitalised. And Putin too, and Netanyahu.

I won’t be sad at his demise, but JDV would be way more palatable to “normal”
republicans, so I hope DT lives long enough to cause enough people to turn against his party and give us the blue tsunami we need.

I am in the US. Almost everyone I know is so nervous for the mid terms. Trump has poisoned this country and I believe it has spilled over into other countries too.

SevenYellowHammers · 30/10/2026 19:32

I can’t speak for others but I do think Mr Trump is of importance to us in UK. On the other hand, the world order has shifted and USA influence is no longer so significant as evidenced by both Trump’s and Biden’s ineffective performance on the world stage. If I’m honest, I’m more scared of Donald and JD Clampet losing because of a repeat of what happened before on Capitol Hill. If he then succeeded the USA will be an actual dictatorship rather than an ipso facto one.

Have the Democrats found any common sense, I mean are they moving away from woke and trans ideology yet? Some of their policies are putting middle of the road potential voters for Dems right off I think.

Anyway whether they do move on from this or not, I hope they sweep the boards. I'm cautious though. Very cautious.

Docugirl · 30/10/2026 19:38

@MsAmerica no begging needed OP. Many, many of us are watching and hoping along with you.

What are you talking about? Trans and woke ideology....is there even such a thing. Did the democrats really have such an ideology or was it something that MAGA simply shouted about.

On one hand you say that about a tiny minority but say nothing about the rights of women or the MAGA ideology on white nationalism.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 30/10/2026 21:03

I just wish that the Democrats would stop going further and further to the left.

The more they keep doing it the more likely it is that the Republicans will win.

MyManinCaracas · 30/10/2026 21:18

But we’re not talking about Republicans; these are MAGA people. Republicans don’t like them either. The Bush family in Texas are voting Blue. The Democrats have at least 3 very strong Senate candidates, but James Talarico is in Texas which will be a huge fight. He’s already a winner in my book because he has changed the conversation; I hope Obama spends Tuesday in Texas because I think that’s where is needed.

Jon Ossoff in Georgia should win his Senate race. He’s the incumbent and very popular. He’s got presidential energy.

Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan; I love him and “hope” he wins but he’s got a lot of racism to overcome. The problem that he poses for the MAGA crowd is that he is a genius in every way, and he’s hugely talented and likeable, witty.

Im not remotely hopeful, however. Trump is dirty and is already planning to cheat.

That doesn’t look likely now, according to the polls, due to Trump’s deep unpopularity with the voters. They might yet retain control in the Senate but it isn’t at all likely in the House of Representatives.

gamerchick · 30/10/2026 21:24

Tbh OP, I think the whole world is holding its breath for the midterms. I want to punch the orange cunt in the face every time I fill the car up. He's one dangerous bloke who's capable of anything.

PermanentTemporary · 30/10/2026 21:24

I am hopeful for the outcome but not for any kind of dignified reaction. The man will, after all, still be President.

Vance doesn’t scare me because he is as extreme as DJT without any of the odd charisma. Rubio is a much more likely candidate in 2028 imo and though he still strikes me personally as very extreme I think he will be attractive to a lot of voters. Rubio vs Ossoff?

The thing is that Trump isn't going to be around forever.

He will go eventually and if they get anyone who is even half decent to replace him then people will start voting Republican again.

MyManinCaracas · 30/10/2026 21:30

I think it’s impossible to know what will happen when he dies and MAGA no longer has a figurehead. But MAGA and republican are not as interchangeable as you seem to think.
