Waiting in the U.S.

I beg the forum’s indulgence, since I know that the U.S. election is not directly of huge importance here, but, still, Trump’s contamination oozes into the broader world.

I don’t know if other Americans feel similarly, but for me this is like being suspended in limbo, waiting to see if the Democratic party will triumph over Trump’s Republican party. I’ve done the protests, I’ve done the volunteering, I’ve done the donations. And now it’s just a matter of waiting. I watch the statistics (Republicans have a tendency to denigrate polls if they’re not in their favor, but now even the prediction markets are forecasting a Democrat sweep). I read about the daily outrages, including his efforts to block votes. But, really, just waiting.

The main amusement is watching the vicious mockery. He’s being heckled at his own rallies. He’s sounding more and more unhinged, and it doesn’t help him that he’s backing some bad candidates. Lately he’s talking about scrutinizing men’s asses.

I’m finally daring to feel hopeful. But we’ll all be glad when this if over (even though we’ll just leap ahead to 2028).What an awful way to live.

I fear Trump . The kind of people who support him are not easy to negotiate with . They either are completely selfish and only see what his please the rich policy gains them . Or they are thick as shit stupid and you can't argue with stupid.

I hope he reaches a physical point where he can't continue . I'd like to say that I hope he gets removed some other but it's evil to wish death on anyone.

Of course we're all primly avoiding wishing death on someone - personally I want him to live to see himself reviled - but I'm quite certain that if he should die in the near future, there will be global celebrations like we've never seen.

I think that the Dems will win the House but probably not the Senate. So many of the races are dead heats. His comments on men’s asses are beyond crazy.

Conservative reporter to man at Trump rally: Why are you here?

Man at rally: Well I was too young for Jonestown in the 1970s.
Reporter:….?

Man: Well I just want to see a cult up close…

I saw that about Jonestown! It was on one of the late-night comic news programs last night! It was a rare occasion when my jaw literally dropped!

I’m utterly gripped.
I’ve heard the GOP have stopped Trump from doing any more rallies now, which must be because he spouts demented nonsense and is doing more harm than good. I can’t wait to see that sweep! 🧹

No, no, still doing rallies. Even from his first term, it's the only thing he really likes - basking in public adoration. The funny thing is, there are always people showcased behind them, and they've become noticeably less enthusiastic.

In fact, he cancelled two rallies and then yesterday, I think it was, reporter Jacob Bogage of Reuters politely asked why, and Trump lashed out viciously. (I tried to find the whole exact text for you, but I can't. It's worth watching for the tone, though.) And now the rallies are reinstated. I'm guessing they panicked at the implication that Trump's stamina is waning.

I’m heading out to vote shortly!! Can’t wait!

However I live in a blue stronghold (went 82% for Kamala) so I sometimes feel my vote doesn’t mean much.

I will be on tenterhooks on Tuesday night. I’ll be watching Michigan, Maine, Iowa, Kansas, Alaska, Ohio, Georgia, Texas and even Mississippi! Some of those I never thought would be in play. I’m still not convinced we can win in red states, but hopefully at least the purple ones will turn blue.

I’m also concerned about what the idiot will do. I do think he’s going to attack Iran again by Wednesday.

I wish I had a watch-party to go to on Tuesday! Even if Dems win nothing (which I doubt) the numbers should still scare the GOP.

I hope so very much that Texas flips, partly because they've been so vicious, partly because the incumbent is so widely acknowledged to be corrupt, and especially because I was shocked to learn that Texas actually has more Democrats than Republicans!

I’m sitting this election out. The Dems support the genocide in Gaza and the war in Iran. I felt really let down by them.

I'm in North Carolina where we have a real shot at change, both with our senator and our house representative. It's stressful waiting although I took great pleasure in voting yesterday with the words of the president ringing in my ears - "Pretend I'm on the ballot." And I did and voted accordingly.

North Carolina is another one I really hope will flip - partly because of the implicit insult, of Trump shoehorning in an inexperienced candidate on the coattails of her dead brother. I've only heard Darline Graham speak a few sentences - I think it was at the Jack Smith hearing - and she sounded like an idiot.
That'll be a real nail-biter, and I have the feeling it'll be contested either way. Hang in there.

Is it evil to wish, as I have in the past, that he’d died of COVID back in 2020? Because I have numerous times!

And yes, I do sometimes hope to hear the news that he’s either dead or been hospitalised. And Putin too, and Netanyahu.

I'm sure you're not alone. Putin is really the most depressing case, since there isn't even a semblance of democracy to dislodge him.

I am in the US. Almost everyone I know is so nervous for the mid terms. Trump has poisoned this country and I believe it has spilled over into other countries too.

Oh, definitely spilled into other countries.

Not to mention the tragic times that we've done the spilling - in Venezuela and Iran.

@MsAmerica no begging needed OP. Many, many of us are watching and hoping along with you.

Thank you so much for your kind words.
Personally I think Trump's evils affect the U.K. as well, but I try to be politely conscious that I'm an "outsider" here and I do try not to elbow in here with too much Americana. (Luckily for you here, I'm not one of those right-wingy America-uber-alles types!)

What are you talking about? Trans and woke ideology....is there even such a thing. Did the democrats really have such an ideology or was it something that MAGA simply shouted about.

On one hand you say that about a tiny minority but say nothing about the rights of women or the MAGA ideology on white nationalism.

Well, the poster isn't entirely wrong. Some Dems keep going off onto these minor weird tangents, shooting ourselves in the foot. Unfortunately, Republican opponents jump on these weirdness to paint Dems as hopelessly out of touch.

But we’re not talking about Republicans; these are MAGA people. Republicans don’t like them either. The Bush family in Texas are voting Blue. The Democrats have at least 3 very strong Senate candidates, but James Talarico is in Texas which will be a huge fight. He’s already a winner in my book because he has changed the conversation; I hope Obama spends Tuesday in Texas because I think that’s where is needed.

Jon Ossoff in Georgia should win his Senate race. He’s the incumbent and very popular. He’s got presidential energy.

Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan; I love him and “hope” he wins but he’s got a lot of racism to overcome. The problem that he poses for the MAGA crowd is that he is a genius in every way, and he’s hugely talented and likeable, witty.

Im not remotely hopeful, however. Trump is dirty and is already planning to cheat.

Yes, Trump's been cheating all his life.

The thing is that Trump isn't going to be around forever.

He will go eventually and if they get anyone who is even half decent to replace him then people will start voting Republican again.

Personally, I think the "not being around forever" has been part of the problem.

I think that's why European leaders didn't stand up to him.

Darlene Graham is actually in South Carolina, but apparently this is also a close contest in what should be a very reliably red stage.

I agree with you on her ineptness though. I heard her speak and dumb and rocks come to mind.

PacificState · 30/10/2026 23:27

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you. I’m going to tune in to the early coverage (starts late night in the UK) and see how long I can last! I still have a strong nauseous memory of watching the early bits of ‘24 and going to bed feeling wretched, then waking up to the terrible news that that unspeakable bastard had won again. I’m not sure I could bear it if this one goes the same way. Here’s hoping.

When did the Dems start supporting the Iran war ?

fdsllp · 31/10/2026 19:15

I’ve become completely over invested in wishing the 🌊 well. I can’t put into words how repugnant I find the racist, misogynist ranting of Trump and his cronies.

Oh and I love the Norwegian’s too!

Replace “Dems” with MAGA and you’re on point. Otherwise, you’re talking nonsense. Democrats and older Republicans are against the war.

I think you will find most of the UK loathes the orange fart.

Keeping everything crossed for a big democrat victory in the midterms.

As for trump's demise, I have a bottle of champagne in my fridge awaiting the happy day.

I just heard in my main politics forum that initially he was stopping the rallies due to the now-famous clear-as-a-bell heckler shouting, “Shove that ballroom up your fat ass!” (It's momentarily funny, but really an awful example of where Trump's vulgarity has led us.)

Remember how MAGA was formed, a mix of white Christian nationalists and the tea party movement. Anti taxation, anti government.... they are basically angry extremists.

Getting rid of Trump won't stop it but what it does is give democracy a chance of survival. These people don't actually believe in democracy they want chaos.
