Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

I can never get my head around that either.

It's a remarkable double standard that has never been explained. In the absence of explanation, I can only assume it's some sort of weird colonialism/racism that applies a lower standard of expected conduct if somebody is brown and not Christian. After all, we can't expect them to operate to the same lofty standards that we do, can we?

I feel like a lot of negative narrative around Israel only works if you don’t look too closely.
Criticising it for being an ‘ethnostate’ is one example of this, amongst others.

I have been stunned this morning after reading this, and I am still stunned. How can a party openly call for the erasure of a sovereign democratic country? Not only that, but they are obviously aware what will happen to the Israelis in this "one state" Palestine - most, if not all of them, will be murdered overnight.

This is as antisemitic as it gets. Its horrifying. Greens are now officially worse that Reform, Restore and all other bottom dwellers.

Political limbo champs of the UK. It was a hard win to get under that low bar but they worked hard for it.

We've had 'resistance is justified' posters up here for years. Yes they mean 7 Oct. When families were tied together and burned alive, murders were uploaded to victims' Facebook accounts, babies were kidnapped, Palestinians cheered and spat on mutilated corpses, and a 9-year-old girl was kidnapped from her home and raped until her pelvis dislocated. These people celebrate that.

Some of them do, yes. Horrifying.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a Kemi-led Tory government at this stage. I just don't think they can get the votes. Labour already rely too much on the Islamist vote, and if they need a coalition they'll get into bed with the Greens.

Genuinely don't see how Labour could get into bed with the Greens after this.

Labour have their faults but they are a respectable, mainstream party. They just cannot be linked to a party which calls for the abolition of Israel. Surely!

What would Burnham have said? His first pronouncement when he became PM was to declare support for Gaza. Burnham and Labour are on the same page as the Greens on this issue.

I don't believe they are. I just think Burnham doesn't want to upset too many people too quickly.

Maybe I'm being naïve, it wouldn't be the first time.

In 1903, a book was written called The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. It claimed to be the minutes of a secret meeting of Jewish leaders plotting global domination and alleged that Jews planned to undermine Christianity and all other world religions. It also claimed that Jews needed to sacrifice children - blood libel - to use their blood for religious rituals.

The author was in fact a Pavel Krushevan. Krushevan was an accomplished writer and a ruthless antisemite. He owned multiple newspapers in the Russian Empire and used them to promote hatred of Jews. Krushevan accused Jews of plotting to control the world. As supposed “evidence,” he cited the emerging Zionist movement.

The book was exposed as a complete deep fake in the 1920s, but that didn’t stop Hitler using the book as a justification for his party’s persecution of the Jewish race.

This propaganda was written 123 years years ago, has been completely discredited and proven to be based entirely on the ranting of one sordid individual, but there are those that still “rationalise” the extermination of the state of Israel and its people, according to a work of total fiction.

How often do we see comments like, “The Jews are behind the media” or “The Jews control the government”? This all stems from The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. And it’s sickening that there are so many gullible and easily led people (particularly in the Green Party) justifying their antisemitism based on a fraudulent and hoax publication.

I’ve sometimes admired the greens for sticking their necks out on certain issues when others don’t - the environment being an obvious one. A couple of years ago or so, they developed a plan for more sustainably living alongside covid, rather than treating the rising incidence of long covid like an invisible elephant. I don’t know what planet they’re on now - this Zionism vote is awful and disturbing at best.

Green party candidates before the local elections linked to antisemitism

Dr Phil Brookes, the Green Party candidate for Manor Park, Newcastle stated in a social media post that “it takes serious effort not to be a tiny bit anti-Semitic”.

Then there’s Sabine Mairey, the Green candidate for Clapham Town in south London. She posted a video on social media stating that a terrorist attack on a synagogue was “not anti-Semitism” but “revenge”.

Councillor Hau-Yu Tam is the Green candidate in the Deptford ward of Lewisham. She has expressed support for her “brilliant comrade and lawyer” Franck Magennis whose law firm Riverway to the Sea has sought the de-proscription of Hamas – the anti-Semitic terrorist group responsible for the mass murder and rape of October 7. She said she was extremely proud of Magennis for “blazing the way on this intervention”.

Ifhat Shaheen is a Green candidate in Stoke Newington. She has defended the October 7 attacks and suggested that Israel is harvesting organs from Palestinians.

Also in London is council candidate Saiqa Ali who posted an image of the Earth being strangled by a snake clothed in an Israeli flag, accompanied by the caption “It’s time to cut the head of this snake”.

Chandni Chopra is the Green Party candidate for Heaton, Newcastle. She has questioned whether Hamas used rape during their attacks despite the horrific evidence and previously described Zionism as a “mental illness”.

Judging by the speed in which things are going think we are only 2 or 3 years away from them feeling able to justify it to the general public and getting away with it

What are the chances of Corbyn coming out and condemning this vote?

He must be fuming, this was supposed to be his party.

Oh long necked one you have found a little silver lining in this

Jez sat at home thinking it should have been me

Condemning it would make him the biggest hypocrite of all time. He will have had a little allotment party to celebrate more people with low IQs thinking like he does.

I read the Communist Manifesto a few years ago ( I was doing a Politics degree, not just for shits and giggles) and I remember thinking it did explain this. From what I remember after the Revolution, the working class would need the educated middle class to show them how to make a socialist society because they aren't educated enough, whereas the middle class intellectuals, who are also members of the proletariat, are educated so will have to lead them. This can basically be translated into educated White Lefties having to help and guide these primitive opressed Brown people with their silly religious superstitions into living a proper Socialist life, after which they won't need religion. Until then they will just indulge their silly fairy stories. Whereas what happens is that the White Lefties underestimate the poor uneducated oppressed Brown people, who have no intention at all of throwing off the shackles of religion ( especially when they can use it to control women). Luckily for the Greens they will probably be sidelined instead of being summarily executed as they were in Iran. Unluckily for Muslim women and girls, as well as Jews, they would have ushered in hardline Islamism into local communities while they shuffle off to the next Omnicause.

I don’t see how else it can be read. This and your post @toastcrustsoutlining some of the atrocities. So sad and horrific.

How are these Green voters buying into it, I’m yet to hear much from those who support it, I need to listen to more I just don’t get the justification.

Interesting, I guess it's here that we find the roots of omnicause white saviourism.

Shame they're too stupid to see where it takes them. Trouble is, it takes us all there too.

ScarlettOYara · 05/10/2026 15:26

Unfortunately, too many people buy into the myth that Jewish people are white, monied and middle class, with control over the media and the banking system.
These people can then believe that they are on the side of the oppressed, non white, poor Muslims, ticking a fair few boxes.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 05/10/2026 15:39

So, the Greens want to remove or wipe out all Jewish people in the MIddle East. Just like they did in Africa. though it was more that they "moved" to escape the way they were being treated.

I find it curious that some seem to want to restrict where Jewish people can live safely, but not restrict any other religions and where they reside? I wonder why that is?

Or even any other ethnic group. Wasn't that a huge problem in the war in the areas of the former Yugoslavia? Ethnic cleansing?
Weren't some of those cases referred to The Hague?
However, it would appear that ethnic cleansing is acceptable if it's applied to Israelis.

Hideous choice! I doubt now that there will a Labour -Green pact, after Labour got rid of the antisemitic element.
