Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

So, the Greens want to remove or wipe out all Jewish people in the MIddle East. Just like they did in Africa. though it was more that they "moved" to escape the way they were being treated.

I find it curious that some seem to want to restrict where Jewish people can live safely, but not restrict any other religions and where they reside? I wonder why that is?

Also Christians are being driven out of- but I guess the Christians are the wrong shade of brown so the Islamic terrorist supporters choose to ignore it.

I actually wake up feeling unwell at the idea of potentially having to choose between a Labour-Green coalition on the one hand and a Conservative-Reform one on the other.

Me too.

Edited

Except the Christians in the Middle East are Brown. Christianity started in the Middle East and many Christian communities in the ME are as a result as old as Christianity itself. They are not all victims of Western colonialism. Funny how they are so obsessed with the White colonial power of the Europeans that they don't believe people in Asia and Africa actually were more developed than Europe 2000 years ago and were perfectly capable of conquering and converting others by themselves. They weren't all sitting around in their mud huts waiting for ships to turn up and tell them what's what!

Or even any other ethnic group. Wasn't that a huge problem in the war in the areas of the former Yugoslavia? Ethnic cleansing?
Weren't some of those cases referred to The Hague?
However, it would appear that ethnic cleansing is acceptable if it's applied to Israelis.

At the time Jeremy Corbyn refused to acknowledge or condemn what was happening in Yugoslavia. I don't know if he has managed to do so since. However my point is this same ideological beliefs and politics is currently happening in the Green party. Frankly they don't care about ethnic cleansing or peace despite what they may claim loudly through megaphone. They only care that their obsession like world view is being met.

Lib Dem MPs urge Greens to defect after ‘Zionism is racism’ vote

Former Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said the Greens had been “captured”. In a post to X, Farron stated: “That the party leader [Zack Polanski] skipped this vote and failed to use his authority to argue against… is an astonishing act of weakness. Real Greens are welcome in the Lib Dems.”

Farron currently serves as Liberal Democrat spokesperson for environment, food and rural affairs.

Jess Brown-Fuller, the Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson, said she felt “profoundly sad” for Greens “that joined a party thinking they were going to be environmentalists”.

She added: “If you’re a Green Party member and your political foundation is rooted in equality for all, as well as being a proud custodian of our natural world, you can find your political home in the Liberal Democrats.”

Responding to Farron’s post, Lib Dem foreign affairs spokesperson Calum Miller said the vote was “deeply wrong”, adding that his fellow MP “nails it: this represents a deeply harmful failure of judgement”.

Luke Taylor, the Lib Dems’ London spokesperson, said the motion “actively undermines a two-state solution” and “does not address the rising threats of islamophobia and antisemitism here in the UK”.

In a statement, he called it “a divisive motion that pours fuel on the fire of tensions in the UK”, adding that it “will leave many British Jews feeling less safe”.

Taylor added: “To those that joined the Green Party thinking it was a political movement that cared about the environment and tackling the climate crisis – you are welcome in the Liberal Democrats.”

Re the above I think that could be a good coalition - the "real" Greens with the Lib Dems. Would increase the Lib Dem share of the vote and take it away from the fake Green party.

Absolutely 💯

Well, truthphobic Greens who don't like the Zionism motion but do enthusiastically support genderism would feel quite at home with the Lib Dems.

So there's that.

UK Greens are welcoming Islamic republic state tv to their conference

They have been banned in the UK and lost their Ofcom license

This after the Islamic regime is believed to have orchestrated multiple terror plots on UK soil. Not to mention killing 40k Iranian people in two days

I would say unbelievable but this is the current Green party so I totally believe they would do such a thing

Apparently they think they are untouchable because Burnham wants the votes for Labour so won't insist action is taken about their hideous behaviour

I think for real Green voters this is probably the best home for them politcally unless they can get party back. Honestly think to late for them to manage a proper comeback of environment
Greens now.

Don't know

Possibly everyone is banned from the conference rooms but not all from the building itself???

Can only go on what has been tweeted and photos at the moment. Hopefully story will get chanced up by UK or politicians from other parties and we will find out more

I’m disgusted by Carla Denyer’s words. Alienating some people? That’s just worrying about votes. Say it for what it is Carla :- out and out racism and supporting violence.

The chairman of Amnesty International’s trustees resigned after the Green motion passed.

Sandy Ruthven, who was the Green Party mayoral candidate for Bristol in 2021, wrote on LinkedIn: “This motion at conference marks the end of the line for me. I have resigned my membership.

“In seeking to court the hard-Left vote, we have failed to confront prejudice when it appears on our own side. In doing so, we have led ourselves into a political cul-de-sac. I sincerely hope the party finds a way back.”

Hard to see how the Greens will ever recover from this.

Bringemout · 05/10/2026 17:47

Don’t even understand the point of anti-zionism as a political position aside from just very much hating jews. It’s not like the Israelis are going to say “oh you think we should dissolve our state…ok then”.

I’ve criticised a lot of countries but i don’t think their state should be eradicated and their people driven out. I just think they need to do better.

ScarlettOYara · 05/10/2026 17:48

The treatment of Jewish people is a warning, there is a serious threat to liberal democracy. We're sleepwalking into disaster and will lose hard won rights.

Absolutely! How many countries are perfect and above criticism? If we don't agree with the Hungarian leadership and politics do we say " Hungary doesn't have a right to exist".
Good parallel with Pakistan, as pp have said.

Douglasmummy · 05/10/2026 17:56

A new news Agents podcast has just dropped. They were scathingcand have gone through the actual motion but by bit. The wording advocates for a Palestinian single state established ' by any means necessary '. I don't think that means excessively singing Kum ba Ya somehow! They made the same point about all countries being formed by displacement of others, but they mention nothing about that. They mentioned Liberia, as well as, of course, the US and Australia. I wonder if they will champion the rights of the Zoroastrians to Iran? No? Don't fancy it? I wonder why?

exactly. The sole outcome is to intimidate British Jews.

I don't believe they are. I just think Burnham doesn't want to upset too many people too quickly.

Maybe I'm being naïve, it wouldn't be the first time.

I hope you're right. But if Labour disagreed with this spiteful decision, wouldn't they have made political capital out of it, along the lines of 'look what those crazy Greens are doing now'?

Bridget Phillips on has made a statement but I don't know why they haven't gone for the jugular before the by election. Maybe because their are worried that anything they say will remind people that they have hardly been friends of the Jewish community themselves.
