The police aren’t total idiots. It’s normally fairly clear whether someone has fallen or whether they have been beaten or deliberately injured.

Absolutely horrific any woman being murdered at 78 years of age. Poor woman.

I can quite imagine her trying to tackle a burglar or intruder, I wonder if this happened.

People saying they're not sorry she's dead is VERY different to saying they didn't agree with her or 'hated' everything she stood for.

I agree that it’s very rare for burglars to kill the occupants.
Most are just petty criminals that need cash, not monsters who want to murder people.

But it may have been that she spooked them and they pushed her out of the way type thing, rather than choosing to kill her.

There was also the case recently in Cornwall of the man who raped and killed the 80yo woman - some people are just monsters.

You said the crime rate on Dartmoor isn’t as low as people think. So have there been other examples of murders by burglars? Because with an apparently high crime rate I’d expect some of it to be reported.

There was a case in the papers yesterday of a woman in her 80s and her dh with dementia assaulted in a burglary - and the dog killed. The perpetrator received the princely jail term of two years.

Absolutely shocking. She was a huge political figure in my childhood when I was first engaging in politics. I didn’t agree with any of her views but nobody should be murdered. I hope they catch the culprit ASAP.

Very shocked to hear this. Hope there is some benign explanation like an accident. Hope she didn't suffer.

Actually I think it's quite important, given current toxic politics, to make clear that we're horrified at such a death regardless of whether we agreed with the person's politics.

And to repudiate murder in itself, not just the murder of people we like. It's appalling that we have to state that, but I think at the moment we do.

As a PP said, there are a handful of humans in the world I'd make an exception to that, eg Putin – himself a merciless killer. But that's extreme.
