How long will Lammy remain as Foreign Secretary?

It looks like Trump will be the next President, and Lammy has been strongly critical of him.
Will he be put into another post, I wonder. But then, if he IS shifted, the optics aren't good on it.
I'm just posting to see if anyone else is thinking this.

You've taken the time to post a thread on that you believe he should go... based on what?
Plus, I've asked you to tell me where I've displayed 'hate'
You can't, can you?

Well you clearly don’t like him much and don’t seem to rate his (evidenced) intelligence. Maybe hate is a bit strong. But on what do you base your dislike and lack of confidence?

when did it become acceptable for UK government ministers to openly support candidates in the elections of allied countries?

Well, should Trump do what he has promised to do... withdraw from NATO, punitive import taxes and stop support for Ukraine.... we would have to consider the USA no friend of the UK or of a wider Europe.

I hope very much he doesn't do any that but he might and that'll have consequences for us all.... bad ones.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 11/11/2024 18:44

I came on here because I thought we were guessing how long, I wanted to say the life of the parliament. I'm so old I remember Jim Callaghan, I liked it when we had ministers in post for ever, you could get to know them, I rather suspect foreign governments like that as well.
I don't have anything against Lammy, we have had some truly dreadful foreign ministers in recent years. At least Lammy is always well-dressed and speaks fluently. That rude remark he made about Trump made me laugh. From the little I know about Trump I think he enjoys being talked about.

Sausagenbacon · 12/11/2024 07:37

But on what do you base your dislike and lack of confidence?
I came on with a question, sincerely meant, of whether it's sustainable to have a Foreign Secretary who is on record for making derogatory comments about someone who is now a leader of state.
I was immediately accused of being racist, and defended myself.
No, I don't like Lammy (rights hoarding dinosaurs, anyone) but the point of my initial post was to ask a question.

Did you have the same concerns in 2016? if not, why not?

Sausagenbacon · 12/11/2024 07:55

No idea. Sorry.
Why was my op so problematic?

The Lammy haters on here are so niave. Trump doesn’t give a shit what Lammy said about him, his own VP said similar things.

Trump likes the Uk because his mum was Scottish, he has property and businesses in the UK and he loves the royal family. That’s what matters to him.

Was that in response to my question?

.... yes but ignoring the v successful meeting he and Starmer had just a few weeks ago.... instead focus in on remarks made years ago.

Remarks that Trump doesn't seem to have, atm, issues with, but even if Trump does, why should we allow a POTUS to dictate who our elected Govt has as a minister?
Should we always dance to the USA's tune?

Trump seems to want to fuck over Europe by dropping support for Ukraine.

Also, in his very brief time as FS, he has dropped no clangers, made some good speeches, 110% backs Ukraine, is trying to re set relations with the EU.

Based on above, he seems to be more competent than Cleverly.

That suggests you ve other reasons to question Lammy.

So you had no concerns about whether the Foreign Secretary's position was tenable when Trump was elected in 2016? Despite the fact that Johnson had said some fairly insulting things about Trump, including declaring him unfit to be President. And "out of his mind".

Ok, back to you.
Instead of answering an anodyne op, you choose to go full- on questioning my motives for posting.
It wasn't enough to answer what I said, but you, and one poster in particular, immediately jumped to the accusation of me being a racist, and my comment being 'hate' (which they couldn't substantiate).
Why did my post result in this? Is it because Lammy is in a special category that can't be questioned?
No, I don't like Lammy. I don't 'hate' him, though. But, unfortunately for you, it's not because he's black.
But I posted because I wanted to hear people's opinions.
I heard the same question put in MSM , so I'm not a total outlier.

Are you going to respond to my question @Sausagenbacon ?

(Btw, it helps if you quote the person you are replying to otherwise it is unclear who you are responding to).

Its obvious why you posted this nonsense, you cannot stand that Labour are in power, so as seems to be the norm on MN atm, lets blame Labour for something that has been made up.

There is zero substance to your criticism, can you point to anything he has said as FS which shows he is unfit for office?

Or even, as you put it, to be questioned over?

No one is above criticism etc but lets here your particular reasons?

I asked you if it weas his colour, i made no such accusation about you at all or are you above being questioned?

Trump will only do things that advantage Trump. If he’s determined to put tariffs on everyone, there’s nothing anyone will be able to do to dissuade him.

Pretty much nailed it. It's now a waiting game for everyone.
