How long will Lammy remain as Foreign Secretary?

It looks like Trump will be the next President, and Lammy has been strongly critical of him.
Will he be put into another post, I wonder. But then, if he IS shifted, the optics aren't good on it.
I'm just posting to see if anyone else is thinking this.

We are now a poorer rich country lacking in an identy and headed for a nose dive in decline as there are few boundaries.

I'm no fan of any of the Royal Family, but I think it's highly unlikely Harry would be interested in helping Trump? And I can't see what help he would be with Charles?

I imagine they'll have to grit their teeth and endure a state visit at some point.

Trump will leverage Harry (there is a court case in the USA due to the publication of Spare and street drug consumption/visa applications) with Charles.

I wouldn't be surprised if he rang Charles and asked him what would be the best outcome for him with the Harry situation to get Charles onside, to have some nice Carriage rides down the Mall to Buckingham Palace whilst signing a trade deal.

Absolutely, Lammy’s colour has nothing at all to do with this, he described Trump as a neo nazi, Trump isn’t the most forgiving person, as doubtless many in the US will find, so Lammy may not be the best placed, but we may be surprised

@Sausagenbacon Yet Trump spoke highly of Starmer, he and Starmer over ran their meeting with Trump.... and neither met Harris, as things have turned out, not a bad decision.

So what are basing your hatred of Lammy on?

All this crap about Trump being unforgiving? maybe educate yourself and see what Trumps running mate, Vance said about Trump?

called the Republican presidential candidate an "idiot" and said he was "reprehensible." Privately, he compared him to Adolf Hitler

All gone over your head hasn't it...

Lammy is a bloody moron, so hopefully not long. I cringe that he is our FS

To be fair so is Trump so they will probably get on really well in person.

Oh dear

So. Tell me where I displayed 'hatred'

Lammy is utterly useless as Foreign Secretary. The fact that Labour openly pinned their hopes (and taxpayers money?) to Kamala means the end to the so called special relationship we had with the US. Starmer needs to rethink his strategy, if he has one at all. Getting rid of Lammy would be a good start.

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 06/11/2024 09:47

BIossomtoes · 06/11/2024 09:11

This country is an inconsequential small island in the North Sea, our government is irrelevant to Trump. The special relationship is history.

You misunderstand Trump then.

Hes a vengeful fellow and Starmer and Lammy haven’t exactly ingratiated themselves….

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 06/11/2024 09:48

The BBC sets out that Lammy has been actually incredibly busy trying to build a relationship with Trump and his team. Thank god for diplomacy. What a nightmare though.

Donald Trump points to the crowd during his rally, with the backdrop of the US flag

What a Donald Trump victory means for the UK

How will Keir Starmer, the former north London human rights lawyer, gel with the brash New York billionaire?

On a brighter note, the socialist experiment in the UK should prove short.

Lets rejoice at that.

TheNuthatch · 06/11/2024 09:54

I think there will be a cabinet reshuffle in the new year and Lammy will be out of the Foreign Office.

Alexandra2001 · 06/11/2024 08:38

Were you so concerned about the Trump May relationship? Boris has FS ? or is this just another "Lets have a go at Labour" thread?

Trump does whats good for Trump, he doesn't give a shiny shit about Lammy, Badenoch or anyone else.

The UK has little influence in the world & so far Lammy has done a good job.

or is it a race thing for you?

@Alexandra2001 , it is a perfectly reasonable question given the appalling rude comments Lammy made about Trump. I can’t see how he can continue to represent this country on the world stage after having behaved is such an ignorant and undiplomatic way towards the leader of the free world.

EasternStandard · 06/11/2024 09:59

Not sure but Labour are likely feeling more on their own this morning

Just generally against other political shifts and trade implications

Almost anyone. This tactless man should never have been appointed. If he thinks he can soft soap a Trump administration he is deluded

Whoever they choose, they can't be any worse than Lammy.

Trump is a great many things, but I don’t think he’s thick.
Looking forward to the absolutely incompetent trade deal Lammy saddles us with.

Be fair. We have concluded awful trade deals irrespective of our government.

The US will drive a very hard bargain on farming - British farmers thought Aus was bad. The US sets a much tougher line and on animal welfare forget it.

I think starmer and Lammy are in a bit of a quandary now. Lammy has spread lies about Trump, Starmer sent people over to campaign for Harris.
They are so dumb

What were the lies?

Is there a trade deal in the offing?

I thought imposed tariffs were more likely, we don't get to decide

bombastix · 06/11/2024 10:08

An FTA will carve the UK out of the general application of the 10 prevent tariffs proposed by Trump.

We can also have a general tariff discussion in parallel. Trump was pro a US UK FTA last time and the UK really does need to decide on a trade and growth policy. Some say it should be the EU and not the US. But we need to choose

Getonwitit · 06/11/2024 10:28

bombastix · 06/11/2024 08:58

Well no! But perhaps we might like a free trade agreement that cuts us out of his plans? David Lammy doesn’t strike me as the man to get that across

I agree. Lammy couldn't get a discount at a car boot sale.

SugarIsHardtoAvoid · 06/11/2024 10:41

Oh sorry I was posting in good faith. I thought we were here to discuss what the actual government including David Lanmy has been doing to anticipate today’s seismic US election result for global politics. My bad. Crack on.

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 06/11/2024 11:42

Let’s hope Lammy isn’t sidelined to manage the Commonwealth relationship.

That could prove costly.
