Starmer surely can’t survive this one?

Guido Fox guy says it’s about the ‘shape of his family’ and reveals: “We have a name. As do the Mail and the Telegraph. We have a birth certificate."

Seems the allegations are something to do with an extra marital lady plus baby.

My opinion on this is that anyone who is such a control freak as to jail people for what they say is clearly a very dark person. And the hypocrisy he’s shown about almost everything he’s ever said, also shows a very dark underbelly,

OK. Well Dan Wooton seems to have backtracked rapidly. I surmise its a baseless rumour and people spreading it should be ashamed for promoting conspiracies #steamers

And one of those is journalists Isabel Oakeshott, who is undeniably right wing and who has a reputation for making headlines

hihelenhi · 05/10/2024 18:35

I'm certainly not remotely "ashamed" to have given the link (assume that was directed at me with a rather silly implication) - it's always better to know what people are saying and where it came from than to act like a superfan who thinks anything being said that might sully the sainted one shouldn't even be seen at all. That just makes it seem murkier and creates more mystery, esp. when people were asking... for the link. (Oh, and nor am I right wing, and nor do I think this is "worse" than the Tories, so... yes, I of course I "have a view". Another very silly implication.)

I'm personally of the view that Boris in particular is on a mission for revenge with the release of his book this week, he's banging on big time at the moment about Sue Gray, and I think a lot of this trying to find dirt is part of it, with his superfans (Guido, Wootton) joining in.

Is that the kind of "promoting conspiracy" that's still permitted (I mean, it's only Boris) or do we need our hair shirts for that one too?

I don't think that remark was aimed at you. You simply provided a link to.the background. It was @hamstersarse who started the thread with a certain amount of glee and no thought for the possibility that a woman and her child were potentially about to be dragged through the mud for no reason.

PandoraSox · 05/10/2024 18:47

Also, no one thinks Starmer is the sainted one FFS.

AboutVattime · 05/10/2024 18:50

Let's just get this all straight. Starmer has done NOTHING illegal or even underhand.. he has declared EVERYTHING !!

This is a total non story spun by a Tory press.. and I didn't even vote for them !!

This. It makes me sick.

itsgettingweird · 05/10/2024 19:43

I have nothing against corporate tickets for events/ shows such as Taylor swift, Wimbledon etc.

Considering all the work TS has done in the cities she's performed in to bring in revenue and support food banks I think it's a good thing our PM is there.

Wimbledon is an international competition.

I did have an issue with the glasses etc.

But I also think if we are going to remove dinars from providing clothing etc for our PMs on the world stage we also need to look at their wage.

For someone in charge of the country it's actually quite low.

A CEO could be on twice as much as are many heads of MATs.

BIossomtoes · 05/10/2024 20:07

I agree @itsgettingweird. Where do you draw the line? Should Cameron not have got tickets to the opening ceremony of the Olympics? I’m happy with “in kind” donations where no money changes hands.

Yes that's how to explain what I meant!

Tickets etc where no money changes hands etc.

itsgettingweird · 05/10/2024 20:10

And yes, Cameron should have been at the Olympics. I think Starmer was too? Don't think I've seen anyone complaining about that - yet 😂

Give it time!

SheilaFentiman · 06/10/2024 07:30

Starmer was at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, with a very sensible anorak 😀

Well it was a £500 'designer anorak' so possibly!!

Pleased to see he's gone back to his old spectacles so we're all not unconsciously triggered every time he appears

Was it?? Looked like something from Mountain Warehouse

(in a nice way, I am fond of mountain warehouse 😀)

Apologies - I'm wrong - he wore a team GB Adidas jacket and was was mocked for that

The £500 one was another time - and he was mocked for that too

noblegiraffe · 06/10/2024 11:39

I thought he wasn't mocked for the GB anorak, I thought he was praised for being British and dressing for the weather when everyone around him had to wear embarrassing ponchos?

Yes I agree with this.
I think elements of the right wing are much more comfortable with an "all's fair in love and war" approach and use social media to create and spread misinformation. I wish they wouldn't.

I think that kind of statement only becomes a conspiracy theory if it was linked to some kind of shadowy elite conspiracy - e.g. Boris is being supported by the Illuminati who need him in power to protect the next generation of lizard offspring, which charlotte owen will be mother of. She's brooding the eggs as we speak.

😂

Maybe I should start making YouTube videos.

To correct my error I had to google it so can assure you there was plenty of mockery in the right wing press along with the point you're making- and interestingly whole DM articles dissecting his cheapskate wardrobe [£50 trainers/£45 eastpak rucksack etc with photos comparing it unfavorably to Sunaks ] which pre-date the recent designer wardrobe scandal

noblegiraffe · 06/10/2024 12:36

Oh, so they've had to clear out their 'Starmer dresses cheap' archive and are now desperately doing 'Starmer dresses fancy'?

All eyes on what he wears to lay the wreath at the Cenotaph this year then. I hope it's a donkey jacket.

SheilaFentiman · 06/10/2024 12:41

Ha, this is like Meghan Markle, if she ate too many avocados, she was a spoilt brat; if she refused avocados, she was dissing avocado farmers.

(NB I am not literally quoting, but the tenor of the DM coverage was that she could do no right)

Mankini. Although might be a bit cold for that in November.

Don't think it's a woman, it's to do witb Lord Ali, I think there is a scandal beyond the donor one.

He had a secret love child with Lord Ali?

That would certainly be interesting news.
