Biden Resigns = 1st Female Black President

For Biden to resign would be the best possible outcome for the Democrat party, giving them the black vote in perpetuity. He will be lauded as the first to coronate the 1st Female Black President in history. Otherwise, he'll just be remembered as a senile old corrupt hack.

I really doubt she will get the nomination, she’s not popular. I don’t think it’s about her bi racial ethicitiy and more about the optics round here capability and her popularity.

Why are people in this country so interested in US politics when we have a new Labour government with a mass of problems to try and sort out?
Personally, I am absolutely sick of hearing about the forthcoming US presidential election which regularly dominates BBC news. I now switch off after the first couple of minutes, no doubt missing important home news. And don't get me started on football and football managers......
I don't know what has happened to the BBC but their news coverage has declined in quality appallingly.

The outcome of the US election has enormous implications for the whole world.

LuckysDadsHat · 22/07/2024 09:49

I was speaking to an American friend and they have said a lot of Americans would rather vote for Bidens corpse than vote for Kamala. I truly don't get it personally. It seems to be a country that wants to self destruct by allowing Trump in again.

RomanticOutlaws · 22/07/2024 09:50

@Redburnett The American president's stance on world politics has enormous implications for everyone else. Trump's thoughts on Russia, for example. And as the old saying goes, when America sneezes, Britain catches the cold.

I think this is why he held on so long. "They" know he was their best chance, even if it's not a good one.

MulberryBushRoundabout · 22/07/2024 09:52

Why would they get the black vote in perpetuity? The democrats have already had the first black President, yet Trump polls very well amongst black voters.

VividQuoter · 22/07/2024 09:53

She is not Black, she mixed race

RaisedEyebrows11 · 22/07/2024 09:55

If the democrats choose Kamala Harris they are clueless. It’s not in the UK press much but Americans are very aware of what she did in previous jobs eg not releasing prisoners for months after their sentences were over so they could fight wild fires, or that man whose exonerating evidence she did nothing with. Her poll numbers are in the toilet for a reason.

So is Obama and he's considered the first Black president?

Papyrophile · 22/07/2024 09:55

She's not popular and she spouts word salads, but she was a prosecutor so can attack Trump as a convicted felon and on the basis that another geriatric is not what's needed.

Sdpbody · 22/07/2024 11:00

American's hate women more than they hate black people. A black women stands as much chance as Putin in being elected.

CointreauVersial · 22/07/2024 11:04

Biden has not said he's resigning, he just isn't standing for re-election. He will continue as president until the election.

So no guarantee that Kamala will ever become president.

MsAmerica · 22/07/2024 01:37

I'm not a fan of Kamala, but I know I'm in the minority. She's not the best woman candidate and probably not the best black candidate.

The obvious candidate should be Hillary Clinton. But, sadly, American politics don't permit that kind of thing.

You are not in the minority. She is not very good and people dislike her.

Hopefully they learned their lesson and talk less about evil Trump and more about the plans for the next 4 years if they want get in.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/07/2024 01:43

I think they wouldn't vote in a woman, black or otherwise. There's swathes of the states with quite a lot of sexist people.

This! He's handed Trump the election.

If anywhere needs more than 2 main political parties and even something akin to the freaking Lib Dems 😺and 😨 proportional representation, it's Murrica

I guess it depends on what you mean by “very well”, but in my view he definitely does not. Any poll I’ve seen put Biden miles ahead of Trump as far as Black voters go.

AndAnotherThingToo · 22/07/2024 13:17

Obama hasn’t endorsed her (yet -might have missed it) I wonder why not? (all the other Democrat big-wigs have)

That doesn't mean it's correct. People should get it right and stop being lazy ascribing incomplete identities to others.

Kamala is Indian and Jamaican. She's closer to and identifies much more with her Indian heritage and family members. The black angle is for black votes and people fall for it everytime.

For what reasons would people remember Biden as a senile old corrupt hack?
On BBC Radio 4 a little while ago a political pundit - not a gullible sheep - gave Biden a good word for work that he did earlier in his career.
I can see why a herd could see him as senile, but can you enlarge on the 'corrupt hack' part. I am not challenging you. I am simply asking for more detail.

I can't remember the name of the BBC's blonde Scottish reporter, whose initials are SS. Did she say that Biden fielded unplanned questions well for an hour not so long ago or am I misremembering? Was it possibly after the two almost- nodding-off times in the interview when Trumpie Dumpie and Biden were together?
TV and newspaper journalists have great power. They can brush under the carpet anything they don't want us to realise, and brain-wash us with the constant repetition of any slogan or news footage which suits their ever-so-impartial purposes.

@upinaballoon You're thinking of Sarah Smith, I think.

On the same topic and also on World at One, did you hear the batshit fortune-teller (who casts asparagus, did I say it was batshit) saying that it would be a female winner, and that .... drumroll.... it would be Michelle Obama. You heard it here first.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 22/07/2024 15:48

The Democrats are likely backing her because they know they are going to lose to Trump. Then they can say we tried with a woman of colour and she failed as women do, so let's trot out a good man of at least middle age again. But we did let a woman have a go, so look how diverse we are!

It’s all about appearance, not what’s on her Ancestry.com profile. I come from a country where black/Indian mixed heritage people are very common. Most look like Indian people with curly hair.

Kamala looks black. People looking at her deciding whether or not to vote for her are seeing a woman who presents more as black than Indian. They aren’t researching the particulars of her background, especially if they’re racist.
