For Biden to resign would be the best possible outcome for the Democrat party, giving them the black vote in perpetuity. He will be lauded as the first to coronate the 1st Female Black President in history. Otherwise, he'll just be remembered as a senile old corrupt hack.

OP posts:

Its silly to assume all black people would vote for her, just as its silly to assume all Indian people would vote for her. Yes we may have first Indian president, but sadly I very much doubt it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/07/2024 00:16

Wouldn't it be better for the first female president to be elected? Rather than handed it by yet another old white man.

I know Americans can't elect women but the idea of a patronising pat on the head is worse.

MsAmerica · 22/07/2024 01:37

I'm not a fan of Kamala, but I know I'm in the minority. She's not the best woman candidate and probably not the best black candidate.

The obvious candidate should be Hillary Clinton. But, sadly, American politics don't permit that kind of thing.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/07/2024 01:43

I think they wouldn't vote in a woman, black or otherwise. There's swathes of the states with quite a lot of sexist people.

HerRoyalNotness · 22/07/2024 01:50

The trouble is she just doesn’t seem very good at the job of VP so this will turn people off. It’s all no matter who vote blue over here so it could happen if the party endorses her

Collexifon · 22/07/2024 01:53

Nice idea, but I doubt she'll even be the nominee.

Scissorsisters · 22/07/2024 02:06

I think the OP is referring to Biden resigning now and letting his VP (Harris) take over by default.

She still has to be elected.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/07/2024 09:15

Sadly I think that whoever the Democrats choose as their candidate will really struggle to defeat Trump now.

Maybe, but there’d be no point. She’d only serve for a few months and she’ll need this time to campaign.

I agree, unfortunately. I’ll personally vote blue no matter who, but not everyone will. If Kamala is the nominee, she’s going to need to pick an extremely safe running mate.

Runbunny · 22/07/2024 09:18

America doesn't like women. They vote for Trump who really hates women, and it's been clear for a while, that whilst they may have been ready for a black president, they're not ready for a woman.

If a black woman (and woman) is the democratic candidate, Trump will win. Unless, maybe its Michelle Obama, but it won't be.

Edingril · 22/07/2024 09:19

So she should only get the job because she is black and female? Sounds patronising

A President can’t resign- they can only be removed from office for incapacity, impeached for crimes or die.

If Biden is incapacitated (a doctor decides this), then Harris automatically becomes President. Biden gets zero credit for this, he wouldn’t be coronating/inaugurating anyone.

Harris would not “guarantee the Black vote in perpetuity” because Black Americans are not a monolith of black supremacists. Obama didn’t get all the Black votes, nor would Harris who is mixed race.

That’s not true. Nixon resigned; presidents can certainly resign. They just usually don’t.

? Why is Hillary Clinton the obvious candidate? She ran for President and lost and it wasn’t because she is a woman. Hillary Clinton is deeply unpopular for her cock ups in prior jobs and for standing by her man when he was coercing White House interns to give him blow jobs in the Oval Office.

As if no one is going to mention race or sex in this presidential race 🙄

Oops my mistake. They can resign.

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/07/2024 09:31

Obama hasn’t endorsed her. There’s a reason why.

Papyrophile · 22/07/2024 09:36

Lots of senior Democrats have endorsed her, including California Governor Newson and Gov Shapiro of Pennsylvania, who have looked like contenders for the nomination. There are significant funding issues with campaign contributions possibly having to be refunded if Harris is not on the ticket.

Meadowfinch · 22/07/2024 09:38

They need to start somewhere. They won't ever have a female president if they don't have female candidates.

Kamala Harris is probably a better option than anyone else at this late stage in the race. I've not heard any sleaze about her, she has experience and would be properly funded.

But I'm not American. Others may know better.

HappierTimesAhead · 22/07/2024 09:39

Harris will not win and there are a lot of people in the black community who do not support her because of decisions she took as a prosecutor.

Redburnett · 22/07/2024 09:43

Why are people in this country so interested in US politics when we have a new Labour government with a mass of problems to try and sort out?
Personally, I am absolutely sick of hearing about the forthcoming US presidential election which regularly dominates BBC news. I now switch off after the first couple of minutes, no doubt missing important home news. And don't get me started on football and football managers......
I don't know what has happened to the BBC but their news coverage has declined in quality appallingly.

Roselilly36 · 22/07/2024 09:43

Have you seen her interviewed? Not a chance.

Football, I am with you. But the outcome of the US Election has a huge impact on global politics and therefore us so it is relevant.

You can ignore it if you want.
