Looks like farage is in

And Tory second there. It's a law unto itself.

A lot of ex-Londoners there. It's interesting as an exiled Londoner, myself, how we sort of stratified ourselves and headed in different directions. Can't think how to lose to say that.

Eastenders / City types in Essex.
Dockers in North Kent
Meeja types to the West

Well that was chilling ...build a mass movement...coming for labour voters.

I'm trying to rewind.

I think he's genuinely delusional.

His Russian connections are worrying too.

Oh here we are....I think he's going for the whole "Dad's Army", grass roots vibe. But yeah "Mass National Movement". That is creepy.

Pretty much.

Creatives to the West Country.

Surrey insists on being its own category, though. Grin

Third Reform MP Great Yarmouth

Starseeking · 05/07/2024 03:48

Of course they have, nobody should be surprised by the results for Reform other than those who haven't been listening to the disenfranchised of this country.

Nigel Farage has done a very effective job of selling his ideas through sound bites, AND pulling in a younger crowd. Apparently he has a very big following on TikTok.

The only shock for me is that they've only got 13 MP's; I'd have expected more. It's a critical mass of more than enough to make trouble in Parliament. It's perhaps the wake-up call both Labour and the Tories need to seriously engage with all parts of the country.

*No, I didn't vote for Reform; never even voted Conservative!

I know but now they're saying they will ban EU boats from our waters and also force supermarkets to pay fair prices to British farmers

Where are British farms getting workers from? Does Farargism want lots of summer work visas from young Europeans again?

Where do Brtish fisherpeople expect to sell their fish? Most British people don't want to eat much seafood, and not the kinds of fish that UK historically sold into Europe. So who is going to eat the seafood, who/where is the market?

I guess fewer boats from European companies would be great for the sea life stocks. Great for sealife populations to recover. I like that part.

Flavabobble · 05/07/2024 03:56

Reform are getting a few shit-brained voters.
Fixed it for you.

Combattingthemoaners · 05/07/2024 03:57

It is what happens in times of political, social and economic crisis. People vote for more extreme voices. Get a period of stability and they will hopefully be confined to the political dustbin!

lljkk · 05/07/2024 03:58

I wonder if REFORM voters know that they voted for higher food prices.

Of course REFORM can promise the moon & stars or anything, they will just snipe from sidelines and can't deliver anything they promise so doesn't matter what they promise.

Aussieland · 05/07/2024 03:59

Myneighboursnorlax · 05/07/2024 02:48

Reform are effectively the renamed Brexit Party, so any % gains are compared to their results last time.

And they made such sensible decisions and had such great policies last time I can totally see why anyone would vote for them... I mean Brexit was the best

13 looks like an over-estimate of their number of seats, but time will tell.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 04:00

Well he's just been boasting about how he threw his campaign together in a month, powered by elastic bands and bits of twig. I think we are supposed to be awed and inspired and not asking awkward questions about policy.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 04:01

13 looks like an over-estimate of their number of seats, but time will tell.

The modelling goes a bit wonky for the smaller parties. It might only be a handful.

Fingers crossed. I misread myself, and thought it was the actual vote, rather than prediction based on exit polls.

That said, Reform voters cannot be dismissed as cranks, protest votes etc; there are too many of them for people not to recognise and acknowledge the significance of the shift.

Reform may only get 13 seats, however they are coming second to Labour in MANY constituencies, suggesting millions must have voted for them. Reform have decimated the Tory vote everywhere, for those who are not paying attention. Had it not been for FPTP, we would be looking at Reform being far more influential on a national scale.

sashh · 05/07/2024 04:10

Portsmouth North, it is the mayor reading out the results in full regalia, but no hat.

Demonhunter · 05/07/2024 04:11

Where's all the derision for the Reform seats being won people, or is that only reserved for the Northerners who ,"nearly" voted them and not for the Southerners who actually did?

Jesus H. Christ on a stolen unicycle... OP, do you want to know a secret? Do you want to know how I knew as a statement of fact that you'd be a sycophant for the National Socialist Inn-Gurrr-Lish Worker's Party just from reading your first sentence paragraph wait a minute... is that a haiku? Whatever it's meant to be, don't be surprised when your 'Enter' key files a restraining order against you.

Let ol' Froggie here help you out a little bit.

I have not voted
Reform and live in a safe tory seat But I voted

Either you don't comprehend or someone has lied to you about what "tactical voting" means. If you genuinely understood the words you're parroting you'd understand why "tactical voting" in a FPTP/WTA electoral system - especially in a safe seat - is like having a thirty year financial plan of "hope someone buys me a winning lotto ticket ennit lol".

I said ages Ago on here the reform would do really well and was shouted down.
Hmm, I wonder why on Earth that could be? It's certainly not because just like the British Nationalist Party, the National Front, Combat-18, and the British Union of Fascists (a contradiction in terms that makes me physically sick just to type) the "Reform" party aren't actually politicians at all, but rather a group of racist, religiously intolerant, hateful bigots, that's simply not possible...

Same as brexit, no one will admit voting for reform but
They still do it in droves it seems.
Ok... let's have this right, shall we?

No one will "admit" to voting 'leave' because it was an unmitigated fcuking disaster that our grandchildren's children will still be trying to clear up the mess from. I'm assuming you did, so let me ask you this...
How is that extra £3,500,000,000 a week for the NHS working out for you? Not like the whole thing is coming apart at the seams, people calling 999 to have QRF crisis response teams rescue them from the hospitals, right? Or that everyone's fcuking dead because there's no money to treat them with?
How's these new borders that are more secure than the giant security walls to keep the posh, rich, white folks at Glastonbury safe from the unwashed masses going? Has it "stopped da lorry's an dat ennit"? Or is the Tetley's company studying the UKBF trying to make a teabag with even more fcuking holes in it?

I'm Willing to bet they
Might win an election in four years at this rate!!
I'm willing to bet my second biggest tortoise 'might' win an election in four years at this rate - she's quite friendly after all, and has infinitely better dental hygiene than that Farage individual, despite her only having a beak.

If you meant "will" rather than "might", then I'll see you for that bet. I'll put up my 'mortgage free' house, the cars and vehicles, my MOD final salary pension that's already paying out, my salary, valuables, every last thing of value I have ever or will ever own to say that "No, Reform Ltd. are not to to win the next election".

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 04:14

Revised exit poll says that Reform now know who all their MPs are.

Oh? That's quite a few.

I hope this will lead to some constructive navel gazing from the grown ups, and not just reflexive "their voters are all racist".

We need to address this. It's been the elephant in the room since the first Trump election and Brexit.

Afloatingvoter · 05/07/2024 04:28

Given that Plaid have won as many seats as Reform, can we expect that they will get equal amounts of coverage?

No one cares in Wales about Plaid so it's unrealistic for the rest of the country to be interested in them.

This. Reform have nearly 15% of the vote overall, that's a huge amount. More than the Lib Dems on 11% and not that far behind the Conservatives on 22%. If it wasn't for the FPTP system they'd have dozens of MPs. Terrifying.
