HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 04/07/2024 23:27

I have not voted
Reform and live in a safe tory seat But I voted
Lib dem tactical vote

I said ages Ago on here the reform would do really well and was shouted down.

Same as brexit, no one will admit voting for reform but
They still do it in droves it seems.

I'm Willing to bet they
Might win an election in four years at this rate!!

Scary
Times

I'm northern and agree with the sentiment that it's horrific they get votes
Hth

Iffx · 04/07/2024 23:50

I think it shows a lot of anger at the main parties.

And it’s a serious issue for the future, which will most likely be ignored until it’s too late.

If Starmer doesn’t please the people who voted for him, they could easily vote Reform next time.

The hard right almost always rise due to the crapness of the main parties.

pikkumyy77 · 04/07/2024 23:51

there are always spite voters and spite candidates to harvest them.

Maybe so, but these are seriously large numbers.

Ringpeace · 04/07/2024 23:52

Why do so many of these Reform candidates look like they breed illegal fighting dogs?

Bellsandthistle · 04/07/2024 23:52

This thread is showing exactly why people have voted Reform - there's a nasty implication of stupid, working class, northern idiots. Don't worry, the sensible southerners will show them how they should have voted.

This may have been aimed at me. You'd have to been blind not to realise that inequality has increased massively in the last 20 years. Of course this has an effect on people's beliefs. ITt would also be disingenuous to suggest there wasn't a north/south divide in England with some deprived southern coastal communities being socially "Northern". See also Wales.

lovelysunshine22 · 04/07/2024 23:53

Because of the sneering, superior attitude of Labour supporters Reform will do even better next time if Labour win! This is exactly what happened with Brexit! Labour and its supporters have a tendency to brand anyone who doesn't agree with them as either thick or racist and 4 years of them in government is only going to intensify the disdain that non labour supporters have for them!

MavisPennies · 04/07/2024 23:54

It's a huge worry. Labour will need to increase living standards for the worst off and reduce inequality if they want to head off far right populists.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2024 23:29

Sunderland was always expected to have a massive Reform vote, don't extrapolate from them to the general population.

Literally every single person i know apart from one has said they were going to vote reform, and its this kind of dismissive sneering that makes it more likely

They’re big Brexit supporting areas, where those people who thought life would be better for them out of the EU have not found it so. And they voted Reform as a result. As others are saying, vote share won’t be like this over much of the country. Regardless, even with increased vote shares, they won’t translate into winning seats, so they won’t have real power, but their success tonight is likely to mean a shift of the Conservative Party even further to the right, which is not good news for anyone.

No these areas voted reform because they don't want to vote tory or labour ( who are definitely no longer the working peoples party) and reform is the only one saying anything they agree with

QuotetheRaven · 04/07/2024 23:58

Hilarious people on here think the exit poll will be wrong. Farage will be an MP, Reform will get 13 seats. The exit poll is historically very accurate and look at the vote share so far. The good news is it will pull the tories apart.

Noosnom · 04/07/2024 23:47

There's a lot of nasty, ill educated , bigoted people out there. Sadly I'm not surprised if they get a lot of votes.

Attitudes like this are EXACTLY what pushes people towards reform 🙄

At last a sensible comment

I think they will get more than 13 seats and I think that if they can do that in a month of campaigning you'd have to be crazy to dismiss them in 2029. In fact they are in a great position as they don't even have to do anything other than make the right noises in parliament and call labour out on their upcoming failures (of which there will be many) and soak up all the future votes of the people who are going to be alienated by the inevitable labour policy of pissing off the many to please the few (of which there will be many). Go Nigel 💪🏿

ExitPursuedByABare · 05/07/2024 00:00

Oooh it’s like Brexit all over again.

Popcorn 🍿 anyone.

goldenlloyd · 05/07/2024 00:02

A few weeks ago I was asked to compile a list in work of all our regional candidates to contact about issues in our sector and it was then I realised there was a Reform candidate in every one - where were these people coming from?

I thought they'd be a crank independent party here and there, but they have thoroughly mobilised.

cantgetmybreath · 05/07/2024 00:03

Anyone watched years and years ? It was made in 2019 and it's all a bit scarily coming true 🙈

thestudio · 05/07/2024 00:04

As a left of centre former Labour lifetime voter, I say with sadness that this isn’t a Labour landslide, a positive turn towards Labour. It’s a split in the right wing vote which has accidentally benefited Labour.

StripedPiggy · 05/07/2024 00:04

This doesn’t surprise me at all.

Why should anyone who wants smaller government, much lower taxes, action on uncontrolled mass immigration rather than more empty words, a crackdown on ‘wokery’ etc etc vote Tory when they have delivered the opposite?

Prawncow · 05/07/2024 00:06

If there’s no chance that you’ll end up in power you can say anything and promise people anything. You don’t have to cost plans or look at whether something is actually feasible. People don’t want to hear that there’s no easy fix, that the money isn’t there, that changes take time. They don’t want to hear that some of the things they want are in direct conflict with other things they want.

Populism is never saying the cost-benefit analysis showed that it wasn’t financially viable.

Yup. At the time it seemed just a little too close to reality to be comfortable and then it got closer!

The first result was pretty worrying, they got a lot of votes! I am nervous the the predicted 13 seats is going to be an underestimate.

First result? We haven't had it yet ffs
