Fed up of the cuts? Fed up of the mislead bigotry? This is your sanctuary. Unwind. Vent. Pop over to the frothers thread if you feel like getting organised and doing some proactive stuff or just chill out with a cup of builders tea in a polystyrene cup.

Welcome.

I see parallels with the feeding and SAHM/wohm rucks. It is fear of difference and ignorance.

The most ignorant posts that rile me most are:

That non-working people get benefits.
That only the right-wingers pay taxes
That people on disability benefits are rolling in it.

I also get infuriated that the ire is directed at claimants. It is not them benefiting. It's the directors and shareholders of big business that make obscene profits but don't pay their staff a living wage.

Ooh, hello. Is there space for my soap box? There are very few spaces (in RL or online) where I can go on about how I believe immigration is a good thing and why immigrants should have their rights protected, without having to expend huge amounts of energy and time defending my position. Even on a left-wingers thread it can be a pretty unpopular position to take.

Whilst I mostly enjoy trying to educate people or point out to them what their arguments amount to it can be exhausting, and sometimes it is nice to talk to people who actually agree with you.

Earthymama · 24/01/2012 11:19

I am totally demoralised and disillusioned today. Having lived through the 1980s I should have been ready for all this, the need, as stated on another thread, to scapegoat, to victimise, to be better than other people. I can't listen to the Today programme anymore, it just ruins the beginning of the day.

And on top of this general feeling of powerlessness come a Real Life situation in which I am being victimised and bullied for Having a Different Opinion to other people. And daring to speak out. And daring to contact the authorities.

These are exactly the sort of people who believe everyone else is wrong.

I am so nervous about walking around my village. I just want it all to go away.

ValarMorghulis · 24/01/2012 11:22

Aww Shirl you got off lightly. I got called a "mong"

Hullygully · 24/01/2012 11:23

I dunnit, pag.

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 24/01/2012 11:26

I saw that Val - I'm trying to think of the best way to say this but...

I'm kind of glad it did that, because as soon as the mask slips a little bit and people SEE exactly where that person is really coming from? Well, they disengage and the poster loses a little bit of that thrill they get from attacking and hurting people.

I, personally, haven't engaged with that poster much in the past anyway, I think it using emotive, deliberatly imflammatory language and is - in a way trolling the site. Now I know for sure, exactly where it's coming from I will never speak to it again and scroll past it's comments.

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 24/01/2012 11:27

Sorry to ehar that Earthy - I hope the RL stuff gets sorted soon, I'm sure you did the best thing you felt you could at the time.

Earthymama · 24/01/2012 11:30

Sfas,
Thanks, I am one of thirty-odd people but a couple of us are in the firing line. I feel so impotent, we are waiting on council officals etc and it must seem so petty to them.

Anyway, standing here in me duffel, warming my backside on the brazier is doing me good. Wink

KatieMiddleton · 24/01/2012 11:31

Shock Who dared to be so revolting to you Val?

I am finding it very depressing that people I previously thought of as reasonable types appear to have some of these hideous opinions Sad

OP posts:
KatieMiddleton · 24/01/2012 11:33

Jeez I just can't get my head round it. I really can't. All this jealousy over people who are less fortunate than themselves. Awful. So sorry Earthy.

KnottyLocks · 24/01/2012 11:40

It's the Humanity bypass that leaves me speechless.
Humanity costs nothing.
It's NOT a weakness.
It's not the preserve of the Left.
You don't have to be Christian to have it.

KatieMiddleton · 24/01/2012 11:40

I've just notice mislead in the OP. Is supposed to be mindless

Hullygully · 24/01/2012 11:44

It's so difficult to stay calm.

Hullygully · 24/01/2012 11:45

How's the lil bubba, Te?

CardyMow · 24/01/2012 11:46

I may leave the £26K thread in a bit - I'm getting perilously close to nicking Hully's gun...

CardyMow · 24/01/2012 11:47

It's DS3's birthday today. I am taking my MN time while I can while he's having a nap!

TeWihara · 24/01/2012 11:48

He's lovely, jaundice is gone so he's not yellow any more.

And finally big enough for grobags so he slept really well last night. (cold house)

Can't believe he's a month old.

lubeybooby · 24/01/2012 11:49
