Christian Prayer Thread:- God of all faithfulness - from the old into the new

DutchOma · 31/12/2008 13:06

The Dippy household is still full of colds and pressure, so I thought it would be good to have a new prayer thread just on the last day of the old year, looking forward to the new.

There are three prayer needs that I think need flagging up:-

David and Fiona Fulton, with their children Iona and Luke and adopted baby Elizabeth. They are missionaries in the Gambia and have been jailed for a year in a very tough prison. here. Only a mighty God can deal with a tough problem by way of a mighty miracle. We need to pray.

Then there is the family of Emily May Hughes, known to NotSoFarNow who was killed because her father dropped a television on her head and she died. here. The horror of such an accident is too much to contemplate. We need to pray.

The third prayer request comes from Weeteeny who posted on a different thread: Dear God, if you exist and I believe you do, then please help my friend tonight. This is a young mother of children aged 14 and 12 who is in hospital with an infection that is not very responsive to antibiotics. There is no recent update. here. We need to pray.

These are the three prayer requests that I think are the most important just at the moment.

But there are a lot of us that are struggling with problems that are not too small for our God to consider and care about.
Mary, with sickness in the family and ongoing concern about her parents-in-law. Giving thanks for the release of P.
Amber with difficulties in getting the help she needs.
Swaliswan needing a special light bulb.
FAQ struggling with family relationships.
RevJusta, coming to terms with an early miscarriage.
Zipadisuzy with poorly children.

And some of us struggle with issues of faith:- Hullygully, who feels like the black sheep; be assured that especially the black sheep are much loved by God.
Trickcyclist who started a thread: I want a religion - who will have me. here

Let us continue to care for one another, to pray for one another and to praise God for His blessings in the year just gone by and in the year to come.

CaptainCaveman · 12/01/2009 10:47

Thanks FAQ have posted on there thanks to your link.

M44 praying for your meeting to go well this morning

welcome sweetestthing and bouncingturtle , HOw lovely to have you join us. Thank you for adding to our wonderful fellowship. None of my family (apart from ds's) attend church or have a particular faith so I also get most of my fellowship, outside of church, on here. Tis a lovely place

Dsis having another blood test today, her potassium levels were really high on friday so she was told to stop taking her water tablets (which she takes for the ascities). She stayed the weekend with mum and dad but managed to go out to a friends (with her dd) and roll home at gone midnight absolutely hammered. . When dneice got back home with dsis yesterday, the first thing she asked was could she come round and stay at my house .
I think I could use some prayer too - I am feeling pessimistic about the outcome for dsis. I feel like I should be confident in the Lord's ability to turn her life around, but, I just don't know . Am very confused, sad, angry and helpless all at the same time.

I want to praise God for my precious family, for blessing me with a wonderful dh and 2 beautiful little boys. Thank you Lord . GOD IS GOOD

CaptainDippy · 12/01/2009 10:59

Morning

BT - so glad your little man is ok - don't blame yourself though -children are always getting into terrible bumps and scrapes, we can't always prevent. xx

Praying for you today M$$, do let us know how it goes sweetie. xx

Praying for you as you go back to work, Mary. xx

Praying for that lady with her DH and his night terrors that you flagged up, FAQ. Must be so frightening for her. xx

CaptainCaveman · 12/01/2009 12:02

Prayers please for our boiler! It's just stopped working and I am soooooo cold. The fire won't light either . Just washed my hair in ice cold water brrrrrrrrrrrrr

CaptainDippy · 12/01/2009 12:09

Oh no, CC - have you called in an expert yet? Praying it gets fixed asap my lovely. xx

CaptainCaveman · 12/01/2009 12:40

British gas coming this afternoon! brrr.

CaptainDippy · 12/01/2009 13:41

Hope they can fix it asap - have you got somewhere warm to go? Wish I lived nearer - you'd be welcome here, even if you do have little boys!!

Clockface · 12/01/2009 14:47

Hello all!

Thanks for the prayers last night. The drive wasn't too bad and the service was actually really lovely and well worth the journey.

CCM contiuning to pray for your sis, and all those affected by her, esp. your neice. And for your heating to be restored soon!

FAQ praying that all your stuff will get sorted out and taht you can get the help you need .

Bouncingturtle how is your ds's head now? Praying for no problems!

Right, I have an essay to write and a completely arcane and ridiculously difficult bit of research to do (and a kitchen to clean, and a pile of clothes to sort, and two children to collect from school soon....gah!)

CaptainCaveman · 12/01/2009 16:06

Great, now the bloody curtain pole in our bedroom has fallen off the wall . Thats 3 things surely?

  1. boiler knackered
  2. fire not working
  3. curtain pole on a suicide mission

Praying for protection over our house!

BouncingTurtle · 12/01/2009 16:21

CaptainCaveman - oh no! Have BG been yet? Do they know what's wrong?
So sorry to hear about your dsis, and your poor little niece, she is lucky that she has you to turn too. It must be frustrating for you to watch your sister abuse herself in such a way I think, perhaps, you need to keep in mind that she is ill and needs treatment. I pray that God will find a way through her loving family for her to seek the help she needs.
FAQ - have looked at that thread, that poor woman

Clockface - glad it went well and that your journey was trouble free

MaryBS - hope you are getting on ok at work. I know how you feel, I was made redundant a few years back, the last month or so when we were in consultation was pretty grim.

M44 - how did your meeting go today?

M44 · 12/01/2009 16:58

Thank you God-meeting went better than I could ever have imagined.......

I can now follow the path I feel God has drawn me to- at last- I am free from it all. Those that know me will know what I mean.

DO and Mary BS I have been put forward for the thing I told you about last week.

THANK YOU!!!

I continue to pray for you all...

notsofarnow · 12/01/2009 18:05

Update well there isn't much of one really. Arrived at hospital nice and early to be told that her consultant wasnt in today. Pain team came and saw her and changed her to tramadol which made me cry because of past family probs with anything codiene based. Then S.H.O came and said indications from pain were appendix but blood tests were ok. Said she was going to speak to registrar who would review her. 2.15 arrives i just getting ready to make trip home to get youngest two and the consultant arrives. She says all tests are clear which we keep hearing and maybe the only option was another laperoscopy. So now we're waiting for the surgeons to look at her to decide whether they think it is appendix.

But now I don't know if she's going to theatre or not because she said consultant came back and said something about putting her on the pill and maybe things will settle down in a few weeks.

I'm stuck at home now with other 3 dc xdh is going in later so we'll see what happens. I am just fed up, frustrated. Have had to gte another sick note.

On the funny side took the dog down to GP's to get sick note was half way home and realied i'd left the dog tied up to the railings. Poor thing. nasty mummy alert.

I did say i didn't have much of an update but thats ages long sorry guys.

BouncingTurtle · 12/01/2009 18:12

Notssofar you are no further forward, your dd must be such a trooper, must be very scary for her I think you can be excused for forgetting the dog, you have rather a lot of worries on your mind atm. I'll keep praying for you.

M44 - glad to hear your meeting went well!

CaptainDippy · 12/01/2009 19:49

Great stuff M44

Of nsfn Grrrrr to the whole situation. REally praying they discover what is wrong and how to help DD asap. xx

Notquitegrownup · 13/01/2009 01:30

Good morning all. NSFN I am sorry to hear that things are still a problem for your dd. Praying that the doctors can get this sorted for her once and for all, now.

Ow, ow, ow, owwwwwwww. I am awake with earrache Don't think that I have felt like this since I was 6!! Bother! I was supposed to be at the dentist at 9am too, and may have to (expensively) cancel.

CC - special prayers for you and your dsis, and for you to keep your spirits up/hopes up for her too.

DO - interesting thought. I was once told that it is never too late to pray for someone. Since prayer is not about persuading God to change His mind, but more about joining Him in his saving/recreating work, and since He is outside of time too, then we can still commit an event and a person to Him in prayer. He knew in advance that you would be praying that prayer, since He knows what is to happen! I have found it really helpful on occasions to be able to do that. Just thought I would share that . . .

Hmmmm. Paracetamol starting to work now. May be able to sleep again after all. G'night all.

BouncingTurtle · 13/01/2009 06:53

Morning and God Bless everyone

NQGU - yes that is a very interesting thought!

To add to my prayers for you all today I would like to add a prayer for my MIL - she slipped on ice they day after Boxing Day and has damaged tendons in her knee and ankle. She came out of hospital yesterday, and today she is waiting to see the Occupational Therapist to see what help/aids she and FIL are going to need - both MIL and FIL are disabled with fairly limited mobility (FIL has post polio syndrome and a wasted leg, MIL has severe arthritis in her back, hips and legs). Luckily they already have a stair lift
DH spoke to her yesterday - she was very glad to get out as she was going stir crazy and poor FIL was really missing her too
We're going over to visit (they live other side of pennines from us!) at the weekend and I said I'll cook them lunch - FIL has been living on takeaways, micro meals and meals on wheels!

DutchOma · 13/01/2009 09:06

It is indeed a reassuring thought that God does not depend on our prayers to do what He wants to do, which is always for our good. Thank you Lord.
Sounds like you will have a long drive BT, hope all goes well.
Prayers also for NSFN dd and for the doctors dealing with it.
Got to fly, I'm in the shop this morning.
Love to all

Just got off the phone to MIL... FIL has been taking into hospital not sure what the problem, but she sounded so upset
This is all they need right now, she's only just got out herself! Have rang DH (she couldn't find his work number so rang me) and told him, his DB is on his way over so at least she won't be alone.
Please could I have your prayers, I praying it isn't serious

DutchOma · 13/01/2009 17:31

Oh how difficult BT. Praying with you and for you, please look after yourself too.

BouncingTurtle · 13/01/2009 18:15

Thanks DutchOma... still waiting to hear anymore news. Spoke to Dh and he said that FIL had been suffering chest pains over the last few days, rang the GP this morning who did a home visit, and FIL's BP was all over the place, so decided to get him admitted as a precaution.
Last I heard, DBIL and his GF were staying with MIL - they were advised to hang fire and call the hospital after a little while to see if she can go in and see him, I guess they'll be doing a load of tests.
DH will be home some so hoping for some more news shortly.

FAQtothefuture · 13/01/2009 18:19

I spoke to my Vicar this morning - she hadn't got my email as her email currently messes her computer up if she triies to check/send them.

Anyhow, told her (after a bit of spluttering.......had hoped it was just a "follow-up" call rather than request call) why I'd rung and she said she was on her way out to a consultants appointment but would have a think and let me know later

She also revealed that her tenants currently owe £3000..........and they're on HB - so I hope that doesn't sway her decision in any way .

That was 11.30 this morning, and I'm still sat here twiddling my thumbs wondering whehter it's a yes or a no.......

PandaG · 13/01/2009 18:19

praying for you all as I read. NSFN - praying for you and your DD.

love to you all.

MaryBS · 13/01/2009 18:54

Will try to catch up later, just wanted to say that there may be a door opening for me as one is closing. At the moment it sounds very promising, but its still early days.

A local school has an Asperger support unit. I have a friend who teaches at that school, who has put in a good word (well, actually SEVERAL good words!) for me, with the result that they want to meet me. So, possibilities of my becoming a TA. I feel God's hand is in this, but I want to make sure that's not just wishful thinking on my part, so please pray for discernment for me... for God's will is paramount in all this...

FAQtothefuture · 13/01/2009 18:56

Praying Mary

btw - will reply to your email tonight
