Christian Prayer Thread:- God of all faithfulness - from the old into the new

The Dippy household is still full of colds and pressure, so I thought it would be good to have a new prayer thread just on the last day of the old year, looking forward to the new.

There are three prayer needs that I think need flagging up:-

David and Fiona Fulton, with their children Iona and Luke and adopted baby Elizabeth. They are missionaries in the Gambia and have been jailed for a year in a very tough prison. here. Only a mighty God can deal with a tough problem by way of a mighty miracle. We need to pray.

Then there is the family of Emily May Hughes, known to NotSoFarNow who was killed because her father dropped a television on her head and she died. here. The horror of such an accident is too much to contemplate. We need to pray.

The third prayer request comes from Weeteeny who posted on a different thread: Dear God, if you exist and I believe you do, then please help my friend tonight. This is a young mother of children aged 14 and 12 who is in hospital with an infection that is not very responsive to antibiotics. There is no recent update. here. We need to pray.

These are the three prayer requests that I think are the most important just at the moment.

But there are a lot of us that are struggling with problems that are not too small for our God to consider and care about.
Mary, with sickness in the family and ongoing concern about her parents-in-law. Giving thanks for the release of P.
Amber with difficulties in getting the help she needs.
Swaliswan needing a special light bulb.
FAQ struggling with family relationships.
RevJusta, coming to terms with an early miscarriage.
Zipadisuzy with poorly children.

And some of us struggle with issues of faith:- Hullygully, who feels like the black sheep; be assured that especially the black sheep are much loved by God.
Trickcyclist who started a thread: I want a religion - who will have me. here

Let us continue to care for one another, to pray for one another and to praise God for His blessings in the year just gone by and in the year to come.

But how would you feel if you had the money and somebody needed it and you didn't know 'cause they were too scared to ask?

OP posts:
FAQtothefuture · 11/01/2009 13:15

I know, I know, I'd feel terrible that they hadn't asked. arghh I know I should just pick up the phone and ring her.......

MaryBS · 11/01/2009 13:25

Don't ask her outright then, but explain your dilemma, say you don't know what to do, and hope and pray she offers??? After all, its only going to cost her if you CAN'T make the payments, so as long as you have that covered by other means, then it shouldn't be an issue.

FAQtothefuture · 11/01/2009 13:27

oh yes payements will be covered, thanks to the budgetting loan I already have the 2nd months rent sorted, but I hope that by then the HB will have kicked in, and once it does I only need to find about £20 a month to top it up.

MaryBS · 11/01/2009 14:01

Well, if you tell her that, then there really is little/no risk for her, is there?

SweetestThing · 11/01/2009 14:06

Hello. I can't tell you how lovely it is to find this thread on here! I'm pretty new to MN, although I've "lurked" for some months and have hardly posted, but came upon this thread before I went to church this morning and was so heartened by all of you so upfront and happy in your faiths. So often I feel that having a faith is portrayed by some people as some kind of "dirty little secret" - it's great that this thread is so public.

I don't know if I've expressed it well, but I hope you know what I mean!

I will be back on this thread for sure. Thank you, all.

M44 · 11/01/2009 14:10

God is good! God is VERY good. I thank God for His faithfulness-I got through the service this morning without falling apart- it was beautiful and just lovely. Without going into personal detail, can't explain why- but DO and MaryBS, please rejoice and give thanks.

I thank you you both for all your love and support and to you lovely lot who so faithfully pray.

MaryBS · 11/01/2009 14:17

Welcome SweetestThing, and thank you for your kind words for us! Please come back soon, and never feel you can't post, we're all amongst friends here, some are just newer than others!

M44 - I am sitting here and smiling and praising God! And well done you for your courage and faithfulness

DutchOma · 11/01/2009 14:31

And me M44. God is good indeed.

I know Mary - I need to get a grip. Will leave it until tomorrow until the link to fill in the guarantor information is in my inbox then (try to) ring her.

BouncingTurtle · 11/01/2009 17:40

OK... I have been lurking on this thread for a while, but today I'm going to post, as I'm feeling spiritually uplifted by being able to make it to Church today, yey!

FAQ - I'm sure your Vicar will be wondering why it took you so long, but I do now how you feel, I really hate asking people for help... I have some lovely friends through the NCT who have offered on numerous times to babysit DS so that DH and I can go out, but only got the courage to ask once - I hate to impose on people!

There have been lots things to pray for on this thread, and I add my prayers to yours. Today we had a lovely talk on using teaspoons to remember how to pray! The abbreviation TSP reminds us to say "Thank you" for all God has given us, to say "Sorry" when we have done wrong and to say "Please" to ask God for his help and blessings.

SweetestThing · 11/01/2009 17:44

Hello BouncingTurtle - I did my first post here today too :-D

I like the TSP thing - we're often good at the Please but not so good at the Thank You (well, I know I am!)

Thank you for the warm welcome on here. Warm glow from the fellowship at church and the fellowship here. No one else in my family is a churchgoer or a believer, so the fellowship side is a bit lacking at home :-)

FAQtothefuture · 11/01/2009 17:57

that's just it I hate asking for help - even the small things (like "can you take some bags of rubbish to the tip for me" - todays' request, or from last year "could I borrow £3 until tomorrow" is a massive thing for me.

I'll accept help when it's offered to me, but tend to just drop hints rather than actualy being direct.

FAQtothefuture · 11/01/2009 17:58

actually as I posted that I realised I'm not always very good at accepting help when it's offered either, I usually will eventually but only after I've made a song and dance about how I couldn't possibly do so

Clockface · 11/01/2009 18:02

Bouncingturltle - I use that tsp thing when I pray before bed with the dc. We call it "teaspoon prayers"!

My talk seemed to go well this morning. Someone asked me after tge service if I ma teacher, because I've got that way of "making people listen"!!! (I think it was a cpmpliment...)

Prayers for me please - i am going to a sercive this eve which is a bit of a drive away, in the dark (obviously) along lots of country lanes. I am not the world's most confident driver, esp. not at night (I do v. little night driving, esp. out of town). So it may sound sily but I am really quite stressed about the drive. I'd really like to know that people are praying for safety! It's funny, isn't it, how we all have our things we find stressful? I can stand up and speak to a church full of people without getting even slightly nervous, but the thought of 7 miles in the dark, on my own, along country lanes...

notsofarnow · 11/01/2009 20:38

wow welcome newcommers. dd much the same ended up in tears this evening with thoughts of what if they operate and cant find anything, what if they decide they going to do nothing and she ends up in this pain forever. Then my officer said enough strength for today tomorrow will be tomorrow.I know all that but really thought this year will be different.

FAQtothefuture · 11/01/2009 21:17

OK - I've taken the bull by the horns and emailed my Vicar. Realised I'd probably be sitting here next year worrying about phoning her/knocking on her door and asking her so typed a (probably very badly written - but got the messsage across - I hope) email and clicked send before I had a chance to change my mind.

I have to start being pro-active when it comes to asking for help/accepting offers of help.

So on that note.........

Mary, you know you mentioned the other day (was it yesterday?) that you could drive a Luton Van and would be willing to help....

If you're available over the weekend I mentioned would you mind me taking you up on the offer? Coffee/Tea and biscuits and lunch etc would of course be provided

BouncingTurtle · 11/01/2009 21:19

Thanks for the welcome!

Notsofarnow - your poor dd Praying for her to have strength for the coming op.

Clockface - eek!! Don't forget you won't be alone, the Holy Spirit will be with you!
On a more practical note, take it easy, make sure your lights are clean, you've plenty of screenwash and use your full beam - don't forget to switch off when you see someone coming the other way!

FAQ - yes that sounds a lot like me!

DutchOma · 11/01/2009 21:58

Welcome BouncingTurtle and SweetestThing. Sorry I was too late to pray for your safety CF, turned the computer off for a few hours and have only just turned on. Then spoke to dd for nearly an hour. Got to go to sleep now.

Quick buzz in before bed .....

Praying for DD, NSFN. xx

Welcome BouncingTurtle and SweetestThing - lovely to "see" you both here

Hope tonight's travelling went ok CF - night driving scares the pants off me too, so every sympathy here

So glad you found the courage to email your Vicar, FAQ - hope the response is favourable - BTW, FWIW - you don't don't like an neurotic loony at all (even if you might feel like one ) - we all have our little "things" that we find hard or difficult and that's just yours. You should learn to ask for help though xx

Did the birth happen yet Marsy? Did you get to the Birthday? Prayers. xx

Brain emptied of everything else, but "see" you all tomorrow I am sure

Love & Prayers. xxxx

BouncingTurtle · 12/01/2009 08:05

Morning all!

Great start to the morning so far... DS was chasing the cat around to the back of the sofa, there is a small speaker on a stand just behind it (there is a gap between the sofa and the wall as the patio doors are just behind the sofa.
Not sure what happened, whether cat knocked into stand or ds did, but speaker fell off and conked the little guy on the head
Cue much tears which were soon soothed away by cuddles from mummy and booby milk. He's ok, apart from a big bruise just above his eye. A bit scary as I think it could have easily got him in the eye
So pray that his head heals quickly and he suffers no side effects! Have given him a bit of nurofen for the pain, but so far he is his normal cheeky self.

Thank you God that he didn't sustain a worse injury, Sorry God, I should have stopped him going behind the sofa and please God, continue to watch over him when I can't.
And continue to watch over Notsofarnow's dd and hold her close to you.

M44 · 12/01/2009 08:09

Please pray for me this morning- I have a potentially difficult meeting. I don't want it to be difficult- but it could go down the wrong path quite easily- please pray it doesn't.

Thank and welcome to all you lovely new people.

BouncingTurtle · 12/01/2009 08:32

M44 - I [ray God helps you to find the right words to help you through your meeting.

BouncingTurtle · 12/01/2009 08:33

MaryBS · 12/01/2009 08:38
