MN Christians, what are your favourite “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs”?

Let encourage each other
“…speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord…”
Ephesians 5:19

Old hymns - Hark my soul, it is the Lord by William Cowper
The head that once was crowned with thorns by Thomas Kelly
Here is Love Vast as the Ocean

New songs - We have a Lamb
His Mercy is More

But loads more I'll have forgotten!

I know some of those.
Will have to look up the new ones as they are new to me!

Thanks for sharing them 👍

I love the hymn "Father hear the prayer we offer" (although I don't like the tune Sussex that it is generally sung to - we had a much better one in school but I don't know what it was).

There is a wideness of God'a mercy is one I like a lot.

I studied theology in Scandinavian and trained in a Scandinavian church so most of my favorites are Scandinavian.
In the CofE churches I have worked the Director of Music has had a big say in hymns and has helped me choose.
In my original church the vicar has to choose 100% and needs to know the hymnbook very well.

This is one of our Cherubic Hymns which is sang as the priest prepares the Eucharist at the altar.

I sing this with my husband in the choir every Sunday. Sometimes it takes all my strength not to cry.

I forgot to add, it's being sung in Church Slavonic.

Let all the world in every corner sing by george herbert.

I love most of the classic hymns. This version of Now the Green Blade Riseth, sung by Steve Winwood, is a cracker:

"And can it be" and "how great thou art" are two of my favourite hymns.
My favourite modern worship songs at the moment are "goodness of God" and "I speak Jesus"

That really is an “old gem” @BurntOrange 💕👍

Oh! Christ He is the Fountain, The deep sweet well of love!
The streams on earth I've tasted, More deep I'll drink above:
There, to an ocean fulness, His mercy doth expand,
And glory—glory dwelleth In Immanuel's land.”

This verse reminds me of another gem-
“Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus”

here’s a lovely rendition by Simon Khorolskiy

Oh lovely thread. Goodness of God and I speak Jesus are good choices, @NannyR I also like In the darkness we were waiting, without hope, without light… but I can’t remember the name.

So many good modern ones. I like the modern version of The Lord’s my shepherd. And the choral one that was theme for Vicar of Dibley.

It’s hard to find a balance between the modern and ancient hymns.

It would be great to hear some Scandinavian songs if you can post any on YouTube?

I listened to “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy” for the first time tonight.
Lovely hymn 👍💕
