Can you recommend me pieces of scripture to read when you are depressed please?

Just that really, thank you.

I've been reading this one:
1 Peter 5:7. 7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

But I'm tired, my soul is tired. I've got a bad diagnosis looming and I feel like someone is pushing my head under the water and I can't come up for a breath.

Any verses you could recommend I'd be grateful.

I have previously found the story of Job comforting. Everything goes wrong for him and he still clings to his faith.

I hope you feel better soon.

Also Isaiah 41:10 and Isaiah 41:13

 So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you

Try not to worry. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer 7 years ago & had a reoccurrence. I've since been discharged from the breast cancer clinic with an all clear! So don't give up hope!

"And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." (Romans 5:5)

Thank you @Dacadactyl I also like the story of Job, it's the ultimate faith test, isn't it? The thing is, I have faith but I feel like I'm not worthy. I feel that God loves me but I'm incapable of applying any value to or love myself. Sorry if it's all too dark.

Maybe speak with your Priest/Vicar. I think you're already half way there if you know God loves you. That gives you something to hold on to.

In terms of applying value and love to yourself, I would look into therapy for that. I would also pray about it.

Thank you, I always see your posts here in the religion area🙂 To have been through that and a recurrence must have been so scary. How did you deal with that?

I think my problem is like my previous reply, I don't think my life is worth saving when millions of people have worse problems and tragedies than mine. If I get bad news, so be it. I just don't want my son to suffer or be traumatised, that's my only worry.
I'm just a bit numb, really, sorry for rambling on.

Yes, therapy is much needed. I think the lack of self worth is because I'm a survivor of childhood trauma and abuse. There are good phases and bad phases but this one is lasting longer and with the potential bad news on the horizon it makes all the more difficult

1 Corinthians 13

I know Love is patient, love is kind can be so overused as a wedding reading that it can be overlooked

But if you need a little self care then reminding yourself that loving yourself is being patient with yourself, and loving yourself is being kind with yourself then it can go a long way

@BetsyBobbins, well the alternative was not dealing with it which I figured would be much worse for everyone involved. And through that process there was nothing so terrible I couldn't cope. And the space around the worse stuff, which was not that bad, was greater than the worse bits which I pretty much slept through.

I think my problem is like my previous reply, I don't think my life is worth saving when millions of people have worse problems and tragedies than mine. If I get bad news, so be it. I just don't want my son to suffer or be traumatised, that's my only worry.

You don't have to be super worthy, I'm certainly not. I'm very ordinary. And thinking of your son is why you cope because the alternative is worse. I just concentrated on the good stuff. TV I wanted to watch, read books. Lots of distractions plus simply not believing the worse.

Yes, I'm not really kind to myself, I'm always the one to put myself down.
Thank you for the verse 🙏

Job helped me a lot, also : 8 Verses 38 to 39. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, and the classic ‘“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - this I repeat over and over when I am going through a very hard time…

The Lord your God is with you,
    the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
    in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
    but will rejoice over you with singing.
(Zeph 3:17)

God thinks all creation (including you) is delightful! 'And God saw all that he had made and it was very good'. - Genesis.

And you can pray The Unity Prayer for unity with Jesus Christ, so He will lead you. Which you can believe in faith He will. I have posted this prayer before because I believe it is a powerful one.

My adorable Jesus,
May our feet journey together.
May our hands gather in unity.
May our hearts beat in unison.
May our souls be in harmony.
May our thoughts be as one.
May our ears listen to the silence together.
May our glances profoundly penetrate each other.
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father.

I like repetition, for me it's like praying the rosary, you repeat until you start feeling calm. Thank you ☺️
