Just that really, thank you.

I've been reading this one:
1 Peter 5:7. 7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

But I'm tired, my soul is tired. I've got a bad diagnosis looming and I feel like someone is pushing my head under the water and I can't come up for a breath.

Any verses you could recommend I'd be grateful.

And Frederick Buechner, with an eye to the present, the past and the future:

For who am I? I know only that heel and toe, memory and metatarsal, I am everything that turns, all of a piece, unthinking, at the sound of my name. … Come unto me, you say. I, … all of me, unknowing and finally unknowable even to myself, turn. O Lord and lover, I come if I can to you down through the litter of any day, through sleeping and waking and eating and saying goodbye and going away and coming back again. Laboring and laden with endless histories heavy on my back.

Thank you 🙏

I recommend ‘The Imitation of Christ’; I read in it most days. Or Julie Rayburn’s ‘Be still and know’.

Wasn't that the book that Saint Ignatius read when he got wounded in battle and made him convert?

Have you tried the Lectio 36 app? It's a short morning and evening ;spoken) meditation on different scriptures. It's so soothing and always calms me when my thoughts are all over the place. Flowers

I think I have all the praying apps: Lectio 365, Hallow, Pray As You Go, Click to Pray, the Holy Bible by YouVersion, plus 3 other ones in my mother tongue. Sometimes I even get confused because I want to follow something but then I think I should be reading something else, that's what a confused brain does to you.

Good morning everyone.

I just wanted to thank you all for posting your songs, videos, verses and quotes. I stayed until the early hours reading and listening to them all.

I'm praying to find two things: a good therapist and a church that I can feel I belong (my local Catholic church isn't very welcoming).
Today is another day and I will try to have a good day. If I'm not dead yet, I'll try to fill my day with purpose at least (apologies for the dark humour, maybe I shouldn't be so sarcastic).

I don't know why but I woke up thinking about this song. She's obviously talking about a lover she had but doesn't want them anymore but this is what I'm saying to depression now, "you're uninvited, go away, piss off" (excuse my French).

'Fear not for I have redeemed you - I have called you by name, you are mine' Isaiah 43.1
'Be strong & courageous. Do not be afraid: do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go' Joshua 1.9

And my favourite verse in the whole Bible -
'And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age' Matthew 28.20

This one is lovely too. I used to read it when my father was dying.

Deuteronomy 31:8-9
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

SiriAlexa · 14/02/2024 12:38

Psalm 121

Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
11I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
22
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
33He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
44
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
55The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
66
the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
77The Lord will keep you from all harm he will watch over your life;
88
the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Are you able to share the rough area you live in? I'm wondering whether, via the power of MN and prayer we might end up having someone who can reccomend a welcoming church to you? Or a therapist for that matter

porridgeisbae · 14/02/2024 13:39

@BetsyBobbins All of it. It's the voice of God. Put the ESV audio on and listen to a bit when doing chores/each morning/whenever. It puts everything in life in perspective.

I like the Epistles.

I don’t have any scripture references to make (sorry) but wanted to send some love and prayers. On the post of not feeling like you are worthy, unfortunately or otherwise for us our worth is not our call to make; we are created and loved as we are anyhow. Better to get used to this IMO - although I know it is hard for a depressed mind to grasp.

I hope you find the practical and spiritual supports you need soon 🙏🏼

BetsyBobbins · 14/02/2024 14:01

Hi @dimllaishebiaith , I live in Elephant and Castle, South East London. Therapy can be done online I suppose, although face to face would be better. I even looked for Christian therapists as there's a directory but then there's no female ones accessible to me. I'd prefer a female one as there is stuff that I wouldn't feel comfortable talking to a man as good as he can be.

I know a nun who is a counsellor/therapist but she doesn't apply Christianism in her therapy, she uses humanistic approach and I'm thinking she's missing a good opportunity here.

Psalm 103
Of David.
1
Praise the Lord, my soul;
 all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2
Praise the Lord, my soul,
 and forget not all his benefits—
3
who forgives all your sins
 and heals all your diseases,
4
who redeems your life from the pit
 and crowns you with love and compassion,
5
who satisfies your desires with good things
 so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6
The Lord works righteousness
 and justice for all the oppressed.
7
He made known his ways to Moses,
 his deeds to the people of Israel:
8
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
 slow to anger, abounding in love.
9
He will not always accuse,
 nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10
he does not treat us as our sins deserve
 or repay us according to our iniquities.
11
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
 so great is his love for those who fear him;
12
as far as the east is from the west,
 so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13
As a father has compassion on his children,
 so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14
for he knows how we are formed,
 he remembers that we are dust.
15
The life of mortals is like grass,
 they flourish like a flower of the field;
16
the wind blows over it and it is gone,
 and its place remembers it no more.
17
But from everlasting to everlasting
 the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
 and his righteousness with their children’s children—
18
with those who keep his covenant
 and remember to obey his precepts.
19
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
 and his kingdom rules over all.
20
Praise the Lord, you his angels,
 you mighty ones who do his bidding,
 who obey his word.
21
Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
 you his servants who do his will.
22
Praise the Lord, all his works
 everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.

Can I suggest you read gentle and lowly. It is a beautiful book based on the verse come to me all you who are weak and heavy laden. It is the only place in the bible where Jesus describes himself. He says his heart is gentle and lowly.
It is a book about Jesus love for you however unworthy you may feel.

BetsyBobbins · 15/02/2024 00:03

Thank you @heyhohello that's a beautiful Psalm.

And @Tiggles thanks for the book suggestion, I've written the name down

My health may fail, my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength in my heart. He is mine forever. Psalm 73:26

I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. Psalm 16:8
