I thought it would be lovely to share tracks that people feel reach them in a spiritual way. 🙂

I'd like to start with this:

I love Bruce Dickinsons take on Blake’s “And did those feet….” Much better than Parry’s take. It really brings out the real meaning (spiritual alchemy rather than a jingoistic embarrassment) his whole Chemical Wedding album is a masterpiece showcasing Blake’s prophetic works.

@Kdtym10, wow! A very dramatic rendition! Really gets the imagination going.

Regarding the dramatic, I have come back to this over the past year a few times. It's an unusual piece, especially in the beginning. You need to stick with it all the way through to really get the sense of it.

@heyhohello Wow, I love that on many levels. - the darkness and the light, sitting between the two. There’s two sides to every coin. I’ll certainly be adding that to my play list I suspect you get more out of it each listen

Yes it’s very powerful isn’t it? In fact there’s a much better version that they recorded in Canterbury cathedral before Bruce got throat cancer. I would recommend the who album as a spiritual journey

Jerusalem was imagination in Blake’s world view as you might know so pertinent you found your imagination stirred.

Been listening to this song lately. I’m not even sure what the lyrics mean, but it just is so incredibly moving. A song written by a man at the end of his life:

Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker

@ BigMandsTattooPortfolio, I just listened and agree. Leaves me a bit speechless. It is very dark and has a sort of bleak fatality about it at the same time it is powerful.

On a less complex note, I love this for its simplicity and optimism. 🙂

Great song!

Thanks for listening @heyhohello. Yes, it is quite dark, but I love the philosophical nature of Leonard Cohen’s music in general.

I’d like to add ‘Lily’ by Kate Bush to my list too.

This has been one of my favourites for a decade or more. It's instrumental but makes me think of momentum and closure at the same time:

It's Tangerine: Love on a Real Train if the link doesn't work.

It's good to listen to all these. Such evocative pieces.

@Kdtym10 post as many tracks as you like, 🙂. I have discovered lots of music over the years through Mumsnet and enjoy sharing and being reminded of old favourites too.

A very poignant one now especially in the current times..though it's never far away.

Oh that is one of my favourite ever songs. Although not a technically great singer Knoflers voice is just so emotive.

On the subject of the rather awesome Dan Vasc, this is the best version of Amazing Grace I have ever heard. And I have heard many, many of them. (I'm Scottish and a Christian, so it's a very common occurrence)

I love his Gethsemane, it's also the best I've come across and I never thought anyone could outdo Ian Gillan.

Love Queensryche!

Kdtym10 · 16/01/2024 07:41

Oh this is one of my favorite songs ever, I used to listen to this lying in bed as a teen when I was going through a lot of stuff. The line”living twice at once you’ll learn, you’re free from pain in the dream domain your soul set free to fly” just wow. I practice lucid dreaming and this song was a big part in setting me off on my spiritual journey.

Geoff Tate is touring in oct (no where near where I’ll be but definitely going to see if I can go)

heyhohello · 16/01/2024 08:47

I'd like to add this because everyone needs to know 'It's Alright' sometimes! Most of all me! 😁

I love Tears of the Dragon as well.

Bring me to Life by Evanescence is striking me as very spiritual these day, now I've got over the horror of it being played on repeat all through my older boys' teenage years at the height of Evanescence's power.
