Full moon blessings to all. I hope everyone's doing ok.

There was an app that i was recommended a while back which showed you the position of not only the moon but also the planets in the sky. I have not a scoobie what the app was, but there are smart people who actually like tech on the thread and maybe someone will be able to recommend one so that you can figure out the best viewing points Emma

I like SkyView.

Probablymagrat · 29/09/2023 21:54

I've got a moon app on my phone, I've set it to give me a notification of new and full moons. It keeps me on track as to waxing and waning. Its called Moon Phase Calendar.

Apparently it also tells me where and when it rises and sets, but I don't understand it really, so I just use the old fashioned method of going outside and looking for it.

I was looking forward to tonight's moon, but sadly it's really cloudy here, and it's just a little fuzzy glow.

I hope the energy does us all good, and we all have a restful night.

Edited to add the name of the App.

EmmaEmerald · 29/09/2023 23:38

The thing about apps is they don’t help me figure out where I’ll be able to see it

mn is my worst habit but generally I’m not a fan of tech. It’s easier to just wander round and see!

I have seen the moon and also lit one of my new candles for my ritual. It really is too pretty to burn so I didn’t keep it going for long 😂

Harvest Moon Blessings everyone

The app I have got is called The Moon. It has a compass to help you work out where to see it (although I don't really understand it, I just go and look outside!) I just use it really as a reminder of when the new and full moons are. I was tired last night so in bed by 9.30, but might pop out for a walk tonight. Sometimes I get a real pull to do some sort of ritual, but I'm not getting that this full moon.

CrafyCorvid I'm so glad your DH is home. I hope he's doing ok and also hope that you're ok and have some support. Caring for others is never easy so do look after yourself.

Hedjwitch enjoy your swim. I was tempted to go down to the coast today, but there's too much I need to do at home really. I've got a week off coming up so will go then, I've challenged myself to do at least 1 sea swim a month throughout the year!

speakout · 30/09/2023 08:07

That's incredible Blanktimes, what an amazing find, thanks for posting.

I slept so well last night, I had my bedroom curtains open, my bed sits just under the window and has a full view of the full moon. It feels so good to have spent the night moonbathing. I am still tending and taking care of myself after a traumatic week.
I was able to see how I was so strong during the storms, providing a safe haven, strength and calm to my loved one, but as the crisis passed I felt depleted.
So I have taken great care of myself in the past couple of days, and will do the same today.
In the past I would have carried on as normal, but probably found my anxiety rising, or developed a sore throat or shoulder ache.

Regarding the apps, is it an ephemeris you are looking for? There is iPhemeris for iphone, contains all sun, moon and planetary positions from 1700 to 2100 AD. There will be many other apps and web sites too.
You may need a little knowledge of astrology - knowing the symbols for planets and signs, what the various aspects mean.
At any one time there is a scattering of planet- sun/moon on the backdrop of the skies, each are in a sign, and a house, and each has a conjuction with other planets.
Some aspects and placements are powerful, others not so ,planets are regularly retrograde, you may want to compare current situation with your natal chart so there is a very large amount of information to wade through, to find out which features are significant and which are minor.
So although an ephemeris is very detailed and gives exact positions for now and future there may be too much information to wade through easily.

There are good websites like https://cafeastrology.com/ which gives daily, monthly/yearly reports of significant astrological features in an easily digestable form.
I also use Night Sky for iphone, GPS means you can point the phone to the sky and get instant identification of planets and stars. It also outlines constellations with beautiful artistic overlay- but that feature can be switched off, it is really good if you need to find certain stars or planets- there is a search feature.

I have a later start this morning, after a restorative sleep, my yoga teacher is on holiday so I will find time to practice when the house is quiet. DD is bringing over a Thai takeaway for dinner before she is off on holiday to Portugal on Monday.

I hope everyone has a calm enriching day.

I love this thread. Where else could you find fascinating archaeology and signposts to apps about moonphases?

@Craftycorvid , I am glad that Mr C is home.

I am feeling very low today. I sprained my ankle severely on Tuesday when taking DS to school. It's the worst sprain I have had. I have been stuck being nearly immobile since then. I am slowly getting better but I am not good with plan changes and this accident has resulted in plan change for the whole week.

But there is a black and white furball on my lap and love surrounding me on all sides so in the grand scheme, things could be worse.

I hope you all have lovely days and manage to go outside. The importance of being outside can be lost, I think.

Hedjwitch · 30/09/2023 08:53

Oddly,I had a very restless night under the moon. Had my curtains open and kept waking up to look at the moon. Just couldnt settle.

speakout · 30/09/2023 09:01

Craftycorvid, I hope you are having a good weekend, and Mr C is settling back home well.

Sorry to hear about your ankle ISaySteadyOn , sending healing energy. These things can sometimes be a sign to slow down. I know if I ignore too much load my body sends me a curved ball.

I think many of us on this thread sleep badly under a full moon Hedjwitch- you are not alone. The moon affects us in different ways.

The one that i am thinking of literally showing you the night sky so you just point the phone at different regions of the sky and it shows you the different stars and the moon and the planets that are in that region. Move the phone direction and it shows you what is in that reason. But it is most definitely a star/night sky app and not a moon app. Designed for star gazers. No data, no info, just a visual image you can compare to what you see.

I am not a tech person either, but a friend has the app and it is really useful for working out why that star is slightly red and twinkly vs is that actually a planet etc. I will see if i remember to ask what the app is. I want to actually put it on my phone.

terrible terrible night's sleep. Taken a slow morning to set up my planner and figure out priorities for the day. A lot i would like to do but too much that has to be done.

speakout · 30/09/2023 14:01

HillsBesideTheSea that sounds like Night Sky- as you say you point the phone up to the sky and all the planets, moon, sun- are identified.
It's really useful if I don't know which star/planet is visible.

Lovely sea swim today. Very refreshing once over the cold shock. Feel relaxed and sleepy now

VioletCharlotte · 30/09/2023 20:02

Blanktimes I've just been looking at the link you've shared, that's incredible. Those carvings! Can you imagine how excited those archaeologists must have been to find it? Thank you for sharing.

The Night Sky app is good, DS like it's too. We've spent quite a few evenings sitting on the garden, looking at the stars and planets.

@ISaySteadyOn sorry to hear about your ankle, that sounds painful. I hope you're being well looked after.

I've ordered an aubergine curry from my favourite Indian restaurant as a pay day treat. I'm impatiently waiting for it to arrive, I'm hungry as I've been busy today and have just picked rather than eat anything proper!

SeaEssence · 30/09/2023 21:06

@BlankTimes wow what a find! Many years ago I used to work around the corner from there!

@Craftycorvid glad to hear Mr C is home at last. Hope the adjustments go well

I've enjoyed the view of Harvest moon yesterday, and took out a few crystals to cleanse and recharge.
Got mum and sis over for the weekend, all three of us have always been interested in the old days, witchcraft snd its history, herbalism etc. It feels comforting and heart warming to talk openly and exchange recipes and newly discovered info.

BlankTimes · 30/09/2023 22:17

Violet, Speakout and SeaEssence

Yes it's a phenomenal discovery, so much to add to our current knowledge. I've visited the Boyne Valley complex a few times, our ancestors knew so much. Despite being so commercialised, the Newgrange and Knowth visits via the visitor centre are still worth it. The whole area is alive with the ancients' presence as I'm sure you know SeaEssence.

Have you seen the website Voices of the Dawn?
It has interactive video of so many sites in Ireland and ROI. It also explains the Irish Legends and how the Tuatha de
Dannan retreated into the ancient mounds, to wait ... in the lands of the Sidhe.

speakout · 01/10/2023 08:02

That website looks incredible BlankTimes, thanks for sharing it. I will settle down with a tea later this afternoon and explore.
My interest in Irish history has been piqued recently, my family tree shows that most of my family on both sides were refugees from the great famine.
I need to make a trip to visit and explore my roots.

I hope you enjoyed your aubergine curry VioletCharlotte, I am the only family member that loves them. If they are on offer in Aldi or Lidl I buy a load, chargrill and freeze to use later.
SeaEssence how lovely to have your mother and sister able to talk about the old ways and witchcraft.
I am lucky too to have my OH, DS and DD all very supportive of my craft, my OHs family too are proud to have a DIL and SIL who is a witch.
My own mother and sister are not supportive at all, in fact my sister has no idea of my pagan path- she would seriously freak out. It feels sad that I have to hide such an important part of me from my family.

I am savouring every moment of my calm weekend. DD came over at tea time yesterday with some Thai food, we watched a movie and snuggled under a blanket.
Today will be a slow pace too. A yoga class later, and some work, but otherwise no obligations.

The moon in Taurus today brings calm and stable emotional energy, allowing us to feel mellow, comforted and safe. Suits me just fine!

Arrrghhhhh where does the time go? Still haven't found time to catch up properly though am lurk reading where I can. Got home from glorious holiday with zero internet, straight into having to find a new studio unexpectedly- have found one in my village, and hopefully sorted and moved in by end of the month but am mildly regretting my mountain of stuff that needs packing up 😂 brushing up on my household magic because I'm definitely going to need it!

Just wanted to sneak in and say happy official spooky season to my favourite sisters and I'm sorry I am so continuously rubbish at the moment - but I am here in spirit if not in replies! 💙✨

And if it's your kind of thing, Sainsbury's have some fabulous spooky leggings in at the moment. Sometimes the small things lift the days, right?

Here's some sea magic for you - sunset over Fistral Beach in Newquay, my client's choice for the end of her shoot, I'd never been before and I was blown away by how beautiful it is!

Any Witches Here?- Part 19
Craftycorvid · 02/10/2023 15:44

Afternoon, all! Wonderul photograph @hilariousnamehere. My day has been juggling a work Zoom call and several other jobs to the a accompaniment of drilling noises as the finishing touches were made to the new safe front steps (we live in a Victorian terrace and I think the ancestors wore crampons beneath their crinolines). All looking good now. Poor Mr C has been sadly neglected with everything else going on but I’m planning to take him for a short walk later so that we both get some air before settling down for the evening - my goodness, where on earth did the day go?

Sorciere1 · 04/10/2023 12:17

I looked at it, no mention of Greco-Roman magic. That's so strange the PGM, Greek Magical Papyrii were and are hugely influential.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/10/2023 12:45

Would be interesting to see who the lecturing staff are... There are some very interesting educated people in the academic world. (can think of 2 immediately - ronald hutton being one) would be interesting to see if any of them are involved.

If anyone has some calming energy spare i could use a little. Red tape and politician meddling in things they shouldn't be has me a little ragey today.

Craftycorvid · 06/10/2023 08:06

Morning all! An MA in Magic and Occult Sciences sounds wonderful - imagine that on the CV 😆 Mind you, inevitable jests involving Hogwarts would surely follow. And yes, I’d also be interested to know who is lecturing - Ronald H is an academic with a high profile in that area.

Ragey energy can be productive @HillsBesideTheSea in the way storms can clear a path, but I get the sense of frustrating rage when we feel unable to do anything about a situation that just isn’t right.

This week saw the garden whipped into shape from equatorial rain forest experience to neat and welcoming suburban patch, thanks to our amazing builder/gardener/joiner and general all-round ‘can do’ chap. He looked at the overgrown and not very healthy apple tree, twitched visibly and would clearly not be satisfied until he’d pruned it as he felt it should be pruned. The tree now looks much better and the garden has daylight in it. All-round chap is full of tales about his childhood and growing up on a farm, all of which could be a tall tale constructed to encourage business but I think not and I find it cheering to hear.

I just need a house elf now. Dust everywhere and I’m fighting the chaos whilst working with Mr C on what he can still do and enjoy. We’ve been out for a walk and a theatre trip so far this week (the non-medical kind of theatre, thankfully!)

LuciaPillson · 06/10/2023 12:21

Hello all, hope everybody is well.

Has anyone got any ideas about easy and simple ways to use crystals for healing/calming/support in illness? I have a bunch of crystals just sitting around not earning their keep so would like to press them into service. 😁 Easy and simple because I'm always tired. Anything you've found effective and fun to do?

Hedjwitch · 06/10/2023 14:09

Just checking in. Yoga this morning, haircut this afternoon and then a long weekend in London for just me! Cant wait
