how do atheists justify having children?

Sorry if the question sounds banal... but it seems easier to rationalise having children if you think your children do the right thing mostly in life they'll end up beyond the pearly gates...

If you’re gonna make a goady thread at least put a bit more effort into it.

WouldBeGood · 06/06/2022 21:01

By accident - maybe ‘twas the will of God 😃

museumum · 06/06/2022 21:01

Life is its own reward. I am not hanging in there for the promise of “heaven” and neither are my children.

XrayFish · 06/06/2022 21:01

But I also don't have to spend my life (and after) worrying about them going to hell and blaming my self for that.
If dead is dead, there's no need to fear it. It's not like they'd be missing out on heaven.

Put the gin down.

And the glue.

Fleur405 · 06/06/2022 21:02

Who exactly do they need to justify it to??

FlipFlopShopInHawaii · 06/06/2022 21:02

What??? No I didn't have children so they'd end up in heaven. How bizarre????

AdditionalCharacter · 06/06/2022 21:03

How do you, as a religious person, have children knowing that your God may decide to make them really ill to test your faith?

qpmz · 06/06/2022 21:04

What is the right thing? If you mean be kind and don't murder, steal etc, then you don't have to be religious to understand this. If you mean don't use contraception, don't have sex before marriage and other religious, guilt tripping horse shit then it's far better to be atheist.

jobhunter7 · 06/06/2022 21:05

>So they have a happy life?

That's not guaranteed of course.

>Why the need for anything after?

But atheists don't have the doctrined belief in their being some good after - perhaps "nothingness"...

Que?

PurpleDaisies · 06/06/2022 21:05

This makes no sense.

Turnthatoff · 06/06/2022 21:06

Because I know with 100% certainty they won’t end up in Hell.

TambourineOfRepentance · 06/06/2022 21:06

Christians would be very brave having children in that case, considering the possibility of their darling offspring burning in hell for eternity.

Ilikewinter · 06/06/2022 21:07

Did you get the "bite" from people that you wanted OP?

airrrrAIRRRRiELLLL · 06/06/2022 21:07

You've been brainwashed op. There's no such thing as 'pearly gates', 'heaven' etc. hth

SnackSizeRaisin · 06/06/2022 21:07

People want to because it's a biological instinct to pass on your DNA. That applies to religious people too. Did you know that Christians are advised not to marry or have children so that they can more effectively spread the faith? Only the weak are advised to marry . It's all there in the new testament.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 06/06/2022 21:07

What, and I can't say this strongly enough, the fuck?!

HappyDays40 · 06/06/2022 21:08

So I'll have someone someone to pluck my chin hairs in my owd age.

BiscuitLover3678 · 06/06/2022 21:09

I think being religious would put me off having kids!

I live life for life. (Sorry if that was a mouthful).

Onionpatch · 06/06/2022 21:09

For the company really.

Octomore · 06/06/2022 21:09

Your question is completely and utterly batshit crazy.

Have you ever heard of evolution, and the drive to reproduce? I mean, you must have noticed that even animals (who don't know anything about religion) have babies?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/06/2022 21:09

Even as a committed Christian I just want to say huh, you what?

Topgub · 06/06/2022 21:10

What in the what now?

The "after" is the fact that your DNA lives on. Religion is just a way of controlling people. And frequently asks people to go against the natural instinct to have children. Monks, priests, nuns etc.
