Religions kill people

We all make typos TeaForever dont worry about it, typos indicate to me you speak from the heart

Dear OP, your posts are full of abuse
As for your argument, it is really obtuse
I don't know what you want to get from this
I am starting to suspect you are taking the piss

Leave people alone to follow their religion
Leave alone the birds and especially the pigeons
Instead of typing insults whilst hiding your face
Why don't you set an example to the human race?

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 08/04/2017 08:01

If you have read any of the new atheist writers OP then have a look at some of those Christians who have engaged with them.

David Bentley Hart 'Atheist Delusions:Christian Revolution and its fashionable Enemies ' looks at the poor quality of argument by atheists with regard to history. His newer book 'the Experience of God, Being Consciousness Bliss' is heavier going but tackles the question of the nature of God which new atheists who are not philosophers don't ever try and get to grips with.

John Lennox 'Gunning for God' has debated with the new atheists and is really worth a read. If you want to tackle religion then tackle what is really believed rather than assuming all people of faith are fundamentalists.

I don't think that the OP will look at any of these. This isn't a debate thread rather it is an agree withOP thread. So have some cake Cake

remainderman · 08/04/2017 08:57

I have not read them all yet. Hitchens rarely authorised his work. Dawkins speaks and writes with impeccable clarity. Krauss explains science, physics and quantum to the layman with flawless perfection. Lennox has been taken apart by Dawkins. There is no need to read any of that creationist rubbish, that garbage has all been repeated time and again, creationists have nothing more to they have come to the end of their argument, it is a dead parrot, just get over it.

Many people on this thread try to be philosophers make themselves look foolish and fail miserably, with their hate filled fundamentalism.

When religion leaves me and my children alone I will leave them alone. I am fed up with religion controlling my life, killing, torturing and abusing babies and children. Fed up with paedophile priest; the church disgustingly protects. Fed up with no separation of church and state.

So back off, it is not going get any easier for you.

Op, I feel that something terrible must have happened to you or your family personally to make you so angry.

I hope you find peace in your life. Xx

remainderman · 08/04/2017 09:12

I am not a serious person but somehow religion brings out the best in me.

Unfortunatley, If anyone is offended by my comments please be assured it was not by accident

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 08/04/2017 09:14

You are a hate filled person. Not one person on this thread has made any claim to fundamentalist extremism.

Nobody has advocated hate against anyone, you are the only one who has done that .

You seriously thought you would come on mn and insult people and the whole mn community would turn atheist overnight. If you did your research you would know that a huge number of us are athiestt but you even pissed us off with your sound bites and hate speak.

I feel sorry for your kids living in such a blinkered household. I fail to see how religion is controlling you personally if you dont believe in it anyway. Just live your own life and stop insulting others who believe something different to you.

Pot and kettle....

originalbiglymavis · 08/04/2017 09:22

I hink the OP is the kid in the household.

Definitely a fail grade in GCSE RS. Zippo argument, no coherent string of thought, no evidence, no counterbalance. Feh

remainderman · 08/04/2017 09:43

Unichef asking for money for the starving children of Africa when they should be asking for condoms. The church and Mother Teresa told the people not to use condoms, as they would be committing murder. Religion does not get more evil than that. There are no atheists on MN.

TeaForever · 08/04/2017 09:58

Aw Candlelightnewf that was a lovely kind comment for the OP Smile x

I've read through a bit more if this thread now, and I also detect considerable hurt. I'm not at all offended by any of the comments from anyone though. I've got no need to be, as I'm secure in my own world view, and so have no need to be offended by anyone else's world view. I totally respect everyone's right to their own opinions, and we're all on our own journey.

The more I think about it, pray about it, and meditate on God's word etc; the more I think we've (the church) often massively over complicated things. I increasingly think that the meaning of life is love. Just love. God is love. I used to agonise over certain church teachings, and over things some (by no means all, or even most) representitives of the church say & do. I agonised, as I couldn't discern whether they were godly things or not. Now I think it's probably easy to tell - is there love there? If it's not loving, then to me it just can't be from God. If it is loving, then it probably is from God (to be clear I've met some wonderful delightful atheists & agnostics too - in that last sentence I specifically refer to things ecclesiastical people say & do)
I cringe at some of the things the church has done. I cringe at some of the things I have done (specially when I first became a Christian - I was so embarrassingly zealous back then! Blush) But more & more I just think... we're all damaged to some extent. We all bring baggage; and all need to cut eachother some slack. It's a journey, and each day we're learning new things, and hopefully becoming more enlightened.

Love to you OP. Love to you all! xxx

ollieplimsoles · 08/04/2017 10:22

tackles the question of the nature of God which new atheists who are not philosophers don't ever try and get to grips with.

What a ridiculously general statement, how do you know what atheists try to get to grips with? And think about the fallacy of the question, why would an atheist try to get to grips with the nature of god we re much more interested in pondering his actual existence.
Bentley Hart can hardly be called a philosopher either, he's a theologian with a wide vocabulary. His first book does go into how atheists can fall short in a debate without proper historical knowledge, but that's about it, he doesn't bring anything new to the table and he's fucked if he meets an atheist historian...
The second book was total clap trap once you get past the verbal diarrhea (which he uses to hide all the logical fallacies) you realise that he's arguing based on a presupposition that god actually exists..

I suggest saving yourself some time and skipping the books and going straight for his interviews/ debates on youtube. Embarrassing.

And Lennox?! No, just No. A mathematician who cant grasp a proper understanding of the word 'random'? Never seen such a gibbering old wind bag in my life, and I was a believer when I read/ saw all this!

Notsandwiches · 08/04/2017 10:26

Love love love 'road to domestos'. I'm going to share that at church where I go to plot.

Notsandwiches · 08/04/2017 10:41

But in the meantime I am praying for you remaindermen

Willow2017 · 08/04/2017 11:19

Someone so unable to accept any facts (there are loads of non religious people on here) never mind arguments against his own ideas.

Someone who you could argue was himself 'brainwashed' by the authors he has read.

Someone who does nothing but throw insults around because he cannot deal with adult debate.

Thinks sound bites and insults are some special gift that makes him some kind of atheist messiah.

All adds up to one mixed up blinkered and dangerous person.
Ironic really as that's the kind of people he purports to be warning us about.

remainderman · 08/04/2017 11:25

Candlelightnewf I respond to people in the way they reply to me. As a result I think you may have perhaps brought this thread to an end. I have many great Christian friends, in fact my partner is Christian. But they are not the kind of fundamentalist Christians that slither through this thread. I cannot prove there is no god, but neither can it be proved there is one; perhaps that makes me agnostic. Nevertheless, hate, fury and anger which these religious zealots defend religion on MN does not infer love, only abhorrence to opposing views, which must be embarrassing to some religious apologists and only hastens the demise of these faiths.
To be fair, Atheists in the past have respected people with religious views. Unfortunately, with the explosion of religious terrorism that respect has now disappeared. Yes we are learning new things each day, mainly through science and exceptional atheistic writers, were virtually all their books become best sellers. As the great man Christopher Hitchens said; religions have all their work still ahead of them.

I don't agree. I think the vast majority of atheists (well, people in general really) recognise that religious terrorists aren't representative of the faith in general.

DioneTheDiabolist · 08/04/2017 12:22

Ah, so you can't read my mind OP. How disappointing.

picklemepopcorn · 08/04/2017 12:52

It's like reading two different threads. OP is on one thread defending the world though not very well against hate filled fundamentalist bigots.

The rest of us are looking around wondering who OP is talking to. And looking forward to cake. I must tell all the hard working people in my church that their baby groups, lunch clubs for the elderly, fun days etc, all done out of love for other people, that they are murderous bigots. I don't think they had realised.

Willow2017 · 08/04/2017 13:26

You are making a complete fool of your self.
Only 2 people have said they are Christian on the whole thread. You are accusing them of murdering kids in Syria just because they are going to church on Sunday yet your wife is a Christian but she is Ok?
Make your mind up you can't argue that all religious people kill people except your wife. Does she know the stuff you are spouting about religious people on here or are you lying through your teeth to her in a daily basis?

Not that I am actually expecting a coherent reply as you haven't produced one yet.

originalbiglymavis · 08/04/2017 14:36

I've already said - it's not a 'he' it's a bot. I'm sure of it. Generated copy.

picklemepopcorn · 08/04/2017 14:42

Really, original? It's not something I know anything about.

originalbiglymavis · 08/04/2017 14:47

Apparently they are very smart these days. But not intelligent!

DioneTheDiabolist · 08/04/2017 15:01

A bot would explain the odd posting style, but what is the purpose of a bot like the OP?Confused

originalbiglymavis · 08/04/2017 15:18

Who the hell knows. Experiment? Bored programmer? Keep us all busy? Amusement?

Joking about the bot (well they can but I'm sure this isn't) but it is like trying to converse with a talking doll.
