Religions kill people

OP posts:
ollieplimsoles · 06/04/2017 23:17

Those pedophile priests clearly weren't Christian

No true Scotsman.

ollieplimsoles · 06/04/2017 23:27

Murder 'for the good of the country try' or of 'enemies if the state' is just as shit as 'because god said so'.

Oh yes its all contemptible, but the difference is:
Political regime responsible for the deaths of many individuals = 'The regime is evil and so are the people responsible for killing'
Religious ideology responsible for deaths of many individuals = 'Oh the people who committed this act are evil but they are not true Christian/ Muslims / Jews / Mormons as our God never tells anyone to kill and loves everybody. They just interpreted the scripture wrong!'

remainderman · 07/04/2017 02:29

Those pedophile priests clearly weren't Christian - Clearly they are, and also evil bastards. Is there no depths to which christian apologists will not stoop. Deuteronomy: stone children to death, is not abuse! Leviticus: eat your children. Perhaps you are a cherry picker. The bible is disgusting, and that is all you have. Therefore,Whats this God never tells anyone to kill bollocks. Lying about the bible is a big part of teaching religion, new atheists are now telling it as it is

It's demonstrated time and again on here that some people don't want to understand what other people's beliefs are. Again and again I've been told that what I believe is evil, and when I point out that I don't believe what they think I believe, that's my fault too- cherry picking.

It seems to me some people need something to be passionate about, they can't believe in God, so they become passionate atheists and fill their heart and mind with hatred for people who believe in God.

What I believe fills my heart with love for other people, and encourages me to work hard in my community helping people.

So now I prefer to talk about cake, as an antidote to the bitterness.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 07:48

You sound angry OP.

What are you doing to help anyone?

"Be the change you want to see in the world", as Gandhi said.

PurpleDaisies · 07/04/2017 07:51

Anything or anyone who goes beyond physics have been brainwashed

What about religious physicists?

PurpleDaisies · 07/04/2017 07:52

Btw I love the idea of religious pigeons everywhere.

BroomstickOfLove · 07/04/2017 08:00

I have a book called 'Good as New' which is a parahrase of much of the New Testament into modern English. All references to doves have been replaced by pigeons. It's a bit disconcerting, but I like it. I think that those probably count as religious pigeons.

countrygirl55 · 07/04/2017 08:12

There are three enormous wood pigeons gorging themselves on the cherry blossom tree in the churchyard opposite my house this morning. I feel they are pigeons of faith.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 08:17

Let's not forget ravens in all this.

There are always ravens around churchyards. My local one is full of their black beady eyes in quiet contemplation.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2017 08:33

Broomstick - what, Luke 3:22 with the holy spirit descending like a pigeon?ShockGrin^^ Are there big fat wood pigeons in Israel? Those in my garden are (frankly) exhibitionist sex-mad gluttons, but I like their cooing, and they've got character.

boolifooli · 07/04/2017 09:03

Aww congratulations Dione!! (It's Headinhands here)

remainderman · 07/04/2017 09:53

Are these the same Ravens that god told to pluck out the eyes of Babes and eat - Proverbs

OP posts:
LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 09:55

I don't think ravens live for more than 15 years, so the answer would have to be NO.

BroomstickOfLove · 07/04/2017 10:01

Errol it goes,

Jesus was one of the many people who were dipped at that time. Afterwards, while he was talking with God, the clouds parted, and God's Spirit came down on him. She looked like a pigeon. A voice from overhead was heard to say, "That's my boy! You're doing fine!"

BroomstickOfLove · 07/04/2017 10:02

That is the passage that gets the most shocked comments in the Amazon reviews.

user1484615313 · 07/04/2017 10:12

This subject had been done to death. i think people on both sides of the argument need to open their mind and heart a bit more.
Good luck.

countrygirl55 · 07/04/2017 10:33

Broomstick, that sounds amazing.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 10:34

The pigeon's church
is the church's eaves,
And all their sermons
the talking leaves;
They do not worry
for trouble or sin,
Or when their tiny
world must end.

The pigeon's church
is full of birds,
And all their talk
is coo-ing words;
To each his own,
to each his place:
Out of the whole
wide world, one space.

👏👏👏👏

That's a clapping emoticon, for those who can't see it, in appreciation of Lord Scuttlebut's poem.

LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 10:49

LOL!

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2017 11:10

GrinBroomstick! Good thing it wasn't a male pigeon coming down on him tbh. (Sorry, but I get far too many 'David Attenborough' moments in my garden, usually on the roof of the arbour).

There's a review and some other fab quotes here: www.wnd.com/2004/06/25241/
...hmm... yes, well, the 1corinthians is definitely inspired by the holy pigeon.

Ooh, I've got a pheasant wandering around at the moment.

DioneTheDiabolist · 07/04/2017 13:28

Thanks for all the congrats. Thanks I'm off to my 1st scan. I'm going to be the oldest person there. I'm going to be older than some of the grannies-to-be.Blush

I'm not a big fan of pigeon but I love pheasant.

remainderman · 07/04/2017 14:17

Fornicating Priests, abusers, adulterers will not enter the kingdom of heaven: Corinthians. However, not much mention of rapists that did seem to be a favorite pastime of christians. Subsequently, no mention of it in the 10 commandments, must be OK then, according to christians.

OP posts:
LordScuttlebutt · 07/04/2017 14:29

The 10 commandments also said nothing about Fornicating Pigeons either, so they're probably off the hook too.
