A new thread for a new year. If you would like to pause, breathe and count your blessings, this is the place for you.

Everyone is welcome, we love to see new faces. It doesn't matter whether you have a faith of any kind or no faith at all; whether you post every day or just once: whether your blessings are great or small. Please drop by and be welcome.

Who's Jamie Fraser less?

My thanks today are for online learning opportunities, a great meeting with my manager and time to reflect on the train.

Hero of the Outlander books, played by the absolutely devastating Sam Heughan on TV. He is my favourite fictional character and my biggest fictional crush. Have been wasting my life rereading the books while feeling a bit grim lately. The imagined glorious, red haired god in a kilt, whispering sweet Gaelic nothing's never fails to make me feel betterGrin

Lessstressedhemum · 04/06/2016 09:53

You should, Edith, although I have probably forfeit my hope of heaven because of Jamie Fraser, and Sam heughan for that matter, because Jesus says thinking about it is as bad as doing something and I remain unrepentant!

My lovely mum and dad. I'm so very blessed as Dad is 87 and Mum is 77. Neither of them look it and certainly don't act it! Smile
They are both in exceptional physical and mental health and thoroughly enjoy their lives. They are always there for me and never, ever judge me.
I'm so grateful and lucky to have them......

I am the mission convener for our Church, so lots to be done. We are doing Polar Explorers from SU this year. This week, I made the posters, flyers and permission slips, my friend and I made 50 log books for the kids to decorate, personalise and fill in, I've done the safeguarding stuff and talked to the congregation. I still have to finish going through the plays etc before a meeting on Friday last week, the same friend and I made 60 penguins and200 snowflakes and icicles to start decorating the halls. I made a start on the sample crafts and the team boxes. Still have loads to do, especially the music, but I need dd to help with that and she is in a teenage strop just now!
I love summer mission, it's a lot of work, but so worth it to see all the happy faces and to touch young lives with God's love.

Lessstressed that sounds incredible! What an imagination to come up with that topic too....please talk about it more when you have the time. When I said that I love a mission.....well, I do....but I didn't fully understand what you meant. I would be so interested to hear more. I've googled summer missions so I've a good idea what they are but I look forward to learning more.
I can hear your excitement and feel the love you have for this and it's joyful Smile.

It's brilliant, hurricane. We run for 5 mornings in the first week of the school holidays. All the children in the local primary schools get a flyer inviting them to come along, last year we had 90 kids! We learn songs (really modern ones), do messy challenges, play games, make crafts and, of course, do bible teaching. This year, it's some of the big stories from Acts. The kids are divided into groups according to their age and after the play, a bit of explanation and a wee film of the story, the groups split up for age appropriate teaching activities. After all that, the kids get a simple lunch, then there are more songs and a bit of mayhem. We usually run for 4 hours, but you have to add an hour either side for team prayers etc. and clean up.
As I say, a lot of work, but totally worth it. I would recommend a mission to any chur h looking to connect with their community. Scripture Union can provide a lot of help and support to get started, even providing the people to man the mission with you.

Lessstressed it's just wonderful. It's what it's all about. What's important. Connection, community and children.......and love
That makes me happy. Thank you

EdithSimcox · 16/06/2016 13:42

You're inspiring less

Back to basics. I've come along to give myself a boot up the bum. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, grateful for:

  • a roof over my head and food on the table
  • a job that not only pays the bills but gives me something useful and interesting to do every day which I actually really (mostly) enjoy
  • my health and the DC's health
  • my church, and lovely vicar
  • the guys who came to fix our water supply today
  • friends who say the right thing at the right time.
