Hi everyone,

I'm Mary's friend Ali. This is my first post here. I'll probably post a little more about myself later when my little one is in bed but thought I'd just say 'hi' for now.

It would be good to know a little about you all too (although my memory is like a sieve, but I'll try to remember!)

harrisey · 14/10/2006 16:18

(((sleepysooz))) I also was in denial for years and it took a lot to get treatment for me. Luckily my dh is very very understanding, and I hope yours will be too.

Ali, hi and welcome to MN!

We are all very friendly on this thread! I'm harrisey, I'm mum to 3 smallish children, dd1 is 6, ds is 4 and dd2 is 2. That's all I'm having! My dh and I have just last week started full time at Bible College (ICC in Glasgow) having moved from the far NW of Scotland to do so. We're loving it but our brains are hurting a bit - there's a lot of reading.
Before I was a mum I was a teacher but I havent taught for 5 years now. My dh is a GP and he's doing locums to pay us through the year here at college. What else to say? I've always got my nose in a book of some kind, I like knitting and sewing, enjoy growing my own food when I get a chance (even just cress on the windowsill), am overweight but starting to lose some ( ;) ), have been a CHristian since I was 16 and am a happy clappy baptist with deep liturgical anglican roots, though I was brought up presbyterian. Basically a bit of a spiritual mongrel!

Looking forward to getting to know you and praying for you,

MaryBS · 14/10/2006 16:55

Hi Ali

I'm off out later, there's a Harvest supper and beetle drive at one of our parishes (although not the one in my village), so won't be on much later.
Tomorrow evening is the Authorised Lay Ministers' (ALMs) commissioning at the cathedral, so if you could pray for them please. We have 2 pastoral and one music minister being authorised.

Sooz - I hope you can get something sorted out. Like anything it takes time to get it right, they will find something to suit you.

God bless, everyone.

aliboo64 · 14/10/2006 17:15

Sleepy, I just wanted to say that I have depression too. I've found some Christians to have the most appalling attitude to it. Of course praying is important, as it is in every part of life, but it's absolutely fine to take anti depressants, if you need them.

I'm having to take them and (I'm told on a long term basis) and the initial reaction you're experiencing, sounds quite similar to what I experienced. My GP decided the intial dose was right, but I needed to build up to it, so it took a week or so to get to the right dose and then a month or so for them to be in my system. These drugs are very good for the majority of people, but everyone is an individual and like the others have said, it's good to check out your reaction with the GP.

Thinking of you. Derpression sucks. But treated depression is more than likely on the way to a sustainable recovery from depression. God Bless

MaryBS · 14/10/2006 22:01

Ali,

Many of the introductions people have done are on this thread, but there's no hard and fast rule. We just make it up as we go along! Post on either or both of them, as the Lord leads you

Bible Bashers R Us

I won a Terry's chocolate orange at the Beetle drive for coming third (the Vicar's elder son was first, with the Vicar coming second) - call me Geraldine . About halfway through the Vicar's younger son (13) got a bit competitive over his score vs mine. I'm afraid to say, when I beat him, I descended to his level and showed him a big L on my forehead . This upset him rather... and he tried to steal my choccie. Needless to say he was unable to wrest it from my grasp...

nearlythree · 14/10/2006 22:23

Dh is visiting his terminally ill friend as I type. Please pray for his friend and his dw, but also for my dh. Last time he went he spent half the night throwing up. He also has a long drive to get home.

MaryBS · 15/10/2006 07:56

N3 - praying for all concerned. I presume your husband got home safely last night? How was he?

CaptainDippy · 15/10/2006 09:11

How did it go for your DH last night N3 - how is his friend?? Praying .......

Well, we're all slowly improving in DippyLand, but we had an absolute NIGHTMARE last night - the clutch on the car went in the middle of the motorway on the way home!!!!!! Managed to get onto the hard shoulder and call for help. Motorway Maintenance thingy were fab - the two men were soooo sweet (we had to sit out on the hard shoudler with the two DD's and wait for assistance ... v.cold ) We couldn't afford to get the RAC or AA to come and rescue us (I spit at those nice cosy adverts they do on TV, IT'S NOT REAL!!!!!!) In the end, DH's parents tailed back, bought a tow rope and came and found us. They towed us back home, bless them and we're all home safely - PRAISE GOD!!!!!

One of the things I was thinking when I was sat on the hard shoulder was that I wanted to contact one of you guys so badly - so you could post and all pray for us - It was really scary!!!! Perhaps we should have an emergency text No ICE????? What do you think??

Car's going in for repairs on Tues so hopefully we can find the money from somewhere!!!!!

OP posts:
sleepysooz · 15/10/2006 09:25

Notquitesotiredmum · 15/10/2006 11:47

Popping into say good morning.

God bless all

MaryBS · 15/10/2006 12:56

N3 - praying for your DH's friend and his wife, and for DH that God may give them strength to cope with their impending loss. I pray in particular for your DH's friend, that he may not be afraid at the last, and that God will welcome him into His loving arms.

CD praise God that you got home safely, and for a solution to your car problems.

Sooz - praying for strengh and support for you as you get yourself sorted. May God look after you and carry you through this difficult time.

MaryBS · 15/10/2006 12:57

I've been thinking, we have a wonderful prayer thread here. Would anyone be interested in starting a "collection of prayers" thread?

These could be prayers you've written yourself, or could be prayers you've found elsewhere that inspire (respecting copyright of course!), that can be used by everyone?

People often tell me they don't know how to pray. Well I know we've got some real experts on here, and I'm sure we'd all find it beneficial.

nearlythree · 15/10/2006 14:00

Thanks for the prayers for dh and his friend.

Mary, on a similar vien I started a testimony thread as we all seem to post testimony here and there and I thought it'd be good to have it in one place, I know I draw huge strength from reading others' stories. But only texasrose posted!

sleepysooz · 15/10/2006 14:12

MaryBS, thank you so much for your kind words, I'm sure we'll all live! but its always nice to get support, thank you again!

CD - You poor thing, that must have been a very frightening experience, hope the kiddies wern't affected too much, and you've all been poorly, you could have done without that to add to it all. That DD of mine hasn't been so beautiful today, she's taken to pulling her brothers hair and grappling him round the neck!

N3 - Praying for your DH and his friends family

Notquitesotiredmum · 15/10/2006 15:12

Back again... DS1 was creating chaos, so had to fly this morning.

Sleepysooz - at your reaction to your medication! That really isn't fair on you, to have such a strong reaction. Loads of sympathy and prayers that the doc will sort it out for you.

CD - try googling GEM (Guild of Experienced Motorists) - they are a small lower cost breakdown service - you have to have a clean driving licence to join! Glad to hear you are home safely after your adventures.

N3 - prayers for your friend, his wife and your dh too. It must be so hard for him and for you seeing him so sad/shocked. Your testimony thread sounds a great idea. Could you try again on the BiblebashersRUS thread. I'd love to read encouraging testimonies, but am limited as to how many threads I can try.

Got to fly. (Voice from kitchen asking about how much play dough you can eat!) God bless all.

longwaytogo · 15/10/2006 15:16

n3 so praying for your dh's friends and that he will find the stregth to be the freind he needs to be.

Sleepysooz I have suffered from depression too and have spent loads of time on Ad's When I'm on them I think they are the best thing since sliced bread and always say I wouldn't think twice about going on them again and then when i'm ill I refuse to go to the GP rationalising that I can beat this on my own, and that if I was a real Christian with a real relationship then this would be ok - but its not!

Go back and get the right tabs you will get there in the end I promise.

Now someone give me a kick up the backside to go and get myself some please.

Ds has got an infected willy atm started screaming yesterday in the middle of packed shopping centre "my willy hurts" Now has antibiotics poor little lamb. Am afraid he may have me hung, drawn and quatered when he told gp that mummy kisses his willy better - the shame when I told him I don't kiss his willy he just got more adamant that I did.

CaptainCavemansMummy · 15/10/2006 16:18

Hello lovelies,
I am so naughty...I didn't go to church today because I WAS STILL ASLEEP! Thats right, I woke up at 10.20 and the service starts at 10 .
Can't you just tell ds is at Grandmas??

However, have been virtuous and cleaned the house whilst I had the chance.

For all of those of you who are or have been on ads, did anyone fall pg whilst taking them?

harrisey · 15/10/2006 17:58

I was put on ad's during my second pregnancy with ds, and was on them from them and right through pg with dd2. I was on sertraline. Its also fine when breastfeeding.

CaptainDippy · 15/10/2006 19:39

Evening!!

Liking the idea of a "Inspiring Prayers and Testimony Thread" - I'll try and get my head round it when I'm not so tired (think last night's catching up with me a wee bit now!!)

Praying for your DS' infected willy lwtg - ouch, ouch, ouch - and to him insisting that you kiss it better!!!!!!! Bloomin' children, eh!!?

[[[[[[hugs]]]]]]]] to you Podmog honey. xxxx

Evening all - have been to a friends baptism this evening, never been to one before Was really impressed with the sermon and the songs were all lovely.

PandaG · 15/10/2006 21:35

Hi all

CD glad you are home safely - must have been frightening stuck on the motorway

Sooz, so sorry that the AD's seemed not to suit. Praying that yoiu can get anotgher appt with your GP realy quickly, and that s/he can sort you out with a scrip that will help you wihout feeling dreadful. Just to echo what others have said, it is not wrong to take AD's, if I ever get really bad again I will be on them like a shot - I know they made such a difference for me - coupled with other people prsying - I couldn't do it for myself then.

Ali - welcome to MN! As you may have seen lower down the thread I'm in Sheffield - If you fancy meeting up e-mail me - PandaG at safe-mail dot net (@ for at and . for dot, no gaps). I have a 6yo, a 4yo and am a SAHM at present

LOngway - praying for DS's willy.

N3 - praying for your DH's friend, and DH too. So .

Podmog -sad to hear you struggled in church today. Praying you will find what it is God wants you to do within your church that is not tainted by your recent experience. Don't beat yourself up honey. God loves you for who you are, not what you do, you are prtecious and beautiful in His sight 'cos when he looks at you he sees Jesus. (sorry not meaning to preach, meaning to encourage)

MaryBS · 16/10/2006 04:15

Podmog, praying for you!!! Am totally with Pandag on this - she has said everything I want to say.

I went to the cathedral last night for a service of authorisation for Authorised Lay Ministers (ALMs). It was a LOVELY service, albeit rather long, as well as the authorisation ceremonies, there were 5 readings, plus I lost count of the number of hymns. The music was lovely, stretched across the whole breadth of music, from traditional to happy clappy. The group in front of us were clapping and dancing in the aisles and waving scarves and banners during one of the hymns. Of course, me being a closet happy clappy, joined in. You SHOULD have seen M.'s face when he looked across at me!!!
It was so funny, he was pretending to disapprove, he's not seen me that lively before Not sure what the rest of the attendees from our congregation thought, but I didn't care, I was praising the Lord
It was also the first time, I'd heard or seen one of our bishops preach, and he gave a LOVELY sermon, full of love and gentle humour, taking the mickey out of himself. He talked about "the 3 hums" which are necessary for ministry, humility, humour and humanity. He said if you ever lose the first 2, stand in front of the mirror, look hard at yourself and say "I am the pinnacle of God's creation". If that doesn't restore them... well.
