DG - they had incense LOTS of it!!!! I guess its because I've not seen incense used at Mass since I was about 10 - 30 years ago, when they turned the altar round and scrapped Latin masses altogether at the church I went to. They continued to use it for Benediction for a while, but my mother (who is a devout Catholic) says she can't remember the last time they used incense. Plus I went to mass on the Assumption in our local church - no incense. I've been to a number of other Catholic churches before I became an apostate - I guess the church you go to does things differently... it was also the first Anglican church I'd been in where Hail Marys were said/sang! Glad your DS is fine now BTW!

Xavielli - I feel blessed, thanks

lwtg - she dtd before I went away, I guess if CD is pregnant, she might be a bit big for the naughty step Congrats to CD!!! So what's the due date for your little boy?

DH is like a rottweiler with PMT at the moment - while he waits to speak to the Dr, please pray for him, and that I keep my temper

DumbledoresGirl · 03/09/2006 19:04

I wouldn't attend a Catholic church that did not use incense. It is one of my favourite of all the many rituals/symbolism. Oh my! I am talking to an apostate! I bet you have some interesting things to tell!

longwaytogo · 03/09/2006 19:39

evening all hope you al had a good day.

Thought for the day 'God owes us nothing. We owe God everything'

This week i'm going to try and reflect Gods glory to those around me.

please pray for dh we have some health concerns atm and think he needs to go chat with gp.

harrisey · 03/09/2006 20:26

Today in church we listened to a song after the sermon. No idea who/what, but this stuck with me all day :

"Its not about who I am, its about what you have done,
Its not about what I've done, Its about who you are"

Certainly helps me to pray.

texasrose · 03/09/2006 20:51

HI there, new mumsnetter here. Whata cool thread!
I've also got a dd with severe excema and this Wednesday she's going to hospital for RAST (blood test) allergy testing. If any of you could pray for her for that we'd really appreciate it. In the meantime we have to cream her several times a day and she hates it esp. with going back to school this week so please pray for grace and also wisdom to know how to look after her properly within the routines of being at school (it's tricky because teachers aren't allowed to apply cream to her and she's not old enough to be able to do it independently sonot sure how that's going to work out...our GP has written asking the teachers to break the rules for our dd because from a medical point of view it's important that she is creamed regularly or she'll suffer like mad.)

Also please could you pray that we (dh and I) find a real 'spiritual home'? It's a long story but we're kind of going between two (very different) churches at the mo and we need to know where God is leading us to be an dhow to bow out gracefully of where he doesn't want us to be!

I'll be praying for you, esp. you Sleepyjess. i lost my beloved MIL last year and it was the biggest loss I've ever faced. I don't know what to say other than pour out your heart to the one who is always listening.

CaptainDippy · 03/09/2006 21:48

Evening all!!

How are we all doing?? I am actually feeling lousy and really low - want to cry all the darn time ......

Later now......

Still feel crap and so tired - off to bed in a sc. Felt so sick eating dinner. I had forgotten what this is like. I feel so selfish and useless. Can't cope with the children. Need help. Please pray.

MarsLady - How was your study day?? Has the lady had her wee babe yet?? Do tell all. .... Will be praying for DD1 as she starts senior school. Bless her!

DumbledoresGirl - Hello my lovely - so good to see you! Praying for you and your emetophobia. Your poor poor thing - you must have strength - I pray that God gives you the wisdom to see beyond this horrid fear and see the wonderful, precious, talented, fantastic woman He has created in His image - The good mother and wife that you really are - Do not believe the devil's lies!!!!! [hugs]]

Sleepysooz - Your poor DS1 with his brace Praying he can over-come the self-conciousness and see the wonderful straight, lovely teeth he will have when it comes off. My DH had braces as a child and he is teeth and truly lovely - I know I am biased, but it is true - It is worth it!!

Xavielli - That poor family Praying for them all - the mum with cancer and the sister in the loss of her precious babe Praying for strength through all of this. Protect them Lord.

WELCOME BACK MARYBS!!!! Glad you had a lovely time away - we have missed you honey!! Soooo good about your bro and SIL getting on so well with their children!! and WAHOOOOOOOO!! about the lady whose results were clear - did you tell her we'd all been praying for her??? @ poor DH waiting for his blood results - praying the news is not too bad and can be treated quickly and effectively. [hugs]]

Please pray for me tomorrow espcially as I'm having my friend's 7 month old for the day - as well as my two - dreading it!!

Sorry to be so down - going to go and crawl in to bed now......

CaptainDippy · 03/09/2006 21:54

Ooooh - new messages since last post started ......

lwtg - Praying for DH and health concerns - praying he go to see GP and not "be a man" . xxxx

Texarose - WELCOME!!!! Good to have you with us honey! Your poor DD with her horrid excema - as a sufferer myself, I have every sympathy - praying that school would relent and apply the cream for her and that the RAST tests would come back with some really helpful stuff. Praying that God would give you wisdom in knowing which "Spirital Home" to pick - going through a vaguely similar dilemma myself atm. [hugs]

Right really am going be crawl under my duvet and sulk now.

"Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I going down the garden to eat wo-o-o-rms......."

longwaytogo · 03/09/2006 22:08

sleepysooz have had to re read down the thread to see what cd was refering to re the brace. As a matter of interest what trpe of brace does he have? DD1 had a fixed one and the only thing she couldn't eat was things like apple unless it was cut up, so what type of foods is he worried about not being able to eat. They are also not supposed to chew gum but they do.

Having brace issues with dd2 she ahs to wear head gear at night and at some point during the day but we have real battles - last time we wnet to hospital they said they would stop treatment unless she put some effort in. I ended up crying at her, because everything is a battle at the minute and she can't see the wood for the trees. Also having similar battle re: contact lens without it she's as blind as bat but does that make a difference to her? nope.

Right enough of my witterings I should be in bed anyway work tomorrow 7.30 start.

cd hope you feel better soon hun x

Hi all

MIL passed away last night at around 10pm. Relieved it's finally over although it still feel awful and worse because I am not with DH until he gets home and just want to hug him. Just wanted to say thank you for your prayers and love to you all.

SJ x

MaryBS · 04/09/2006 03:08

SJ - glad for your MIL thst she is finally at peace. May God welcome her into his presence and give her rest. Praying that things aren't too difficult to come to terms with for your DH, and praying for love and peace for him and his/your family too.

CD - sorry to 'hear' you are down (and thanks for your enthusiastic welcome!). No I didn't tell my friend we were praying for her. She hasn't got a problem with being prayed for, just doesn't like hearing about it. Praying for God to support you when you are feeling like this. Good luck with the house - would be interested in seeing the details, if you feel like emailing me them.

Texasrose - praying for your DD. Whereabouts are you based? Maybe a MN can suggest a church for you... what sort of thing are you looking for?

lwtg - hope you can get things sorted with dd2 - I wish I'd had a brace when I was younger, but I already wore glasses and was bullied at school, so I think my mother thought it was best if I didn't give them more ammunition! Do any of her friends where braces? Is it a peer pressure thing?

DG - I spoke to my sister last night (she's a Catholic), and she's another that hasn't seen incense in a Catholic church for a while (and she's moved locations a few times, so has 'tried' quite a few!). I like incense too, as does our Vicar, although he uses it sparingly as it winds the congregation up (they think its 'too' high ). As for stories... well I won't bore you with them, I do have some interesting ones, but some sad ones too! Suffice it to say, I still hold with most of my beliefs from being a Catholic, and am fortunate that I have found a church/Vicar consistent with my beliefs. My lay ministry is certainly not something I could do in the Catholic church, so maybe my 'conversion' was all part of God's plan for me . My mother would freak if I were ordained though!!! (Ordination of women is one of the areas where I felt the RC church was lacking, even when I was RC). Sorry, I digress... if you want to know more, my email addy is suttonmb "at" talktalk "dot" net.

Xavielli - praying for your friend's family. God help them in their time of trouble.

Weirdbird - praying for you and your baby. Glad to hear he/she's holding in there!

Not sleeping very well. Worried about DH/upset with him too. Don't want to go back to work today. I need some sleep as I've got 20 pages of notes to type up and print by Saturday, when my next tutorial is... Feeling calmer as I read/type on this thread. Prayer is a wonderful thing. Being awake at this time can have its blessings - the quiet makes it easier to 'hear' God

Apologies if I've missed anyone or a particular situation. Still a bit woolly headed, and DH's snappiness has upset me. I know he's worried, but whenever he gets snappy/down he withdraws into himself and won't confide in me, and I find it difficult to take (especially as it isn't always obvious whats getting to him! I worry its me sometimes...).

Ooo - praise God - the Vicar's wife went for a job interview Friday and they phoned her Saturday to say she's got the job!

Could I ask you very nice ladies to say a prayer for my DH's work colleague who very sadly took his own life on Saturday?

He was 20 years old and this has been a huge shock for everybody I know, especially his poor Mum who he was devoted to.

Thank you and much love and peace to all of you.

poppiesinaline · 04/09/2006 10:12

MaryBS welcome. if i may.... what is your dh worried about? my dh is going for yet another job interview in 45 mns... if any of you read this, can you add him in your prayers please. worried about dh who seems to be drinking more and more and was snappy on sat... the money worries are really starting to affect our relationship... on a brighter side, dh did a reading at church yesterday and must have read well cos got lots of compliments. also, vicar told dh he would give him a ref if needed.... did not go to church yesterday nor dd as so much to do at home. dh spent 20mns chatting with the other guys at church. nice to see that at least on that front things are getting positive. also dh came back saying he said yes to a black do in october to go with church and that he had paid for us both to go. guess he is trying but it is so so hard.... will pray today for all of you. xx

Nanou1 · 04/09/2006 10:55

CaptainDippy · 04/09/2006 11:29

Absolutely no idea at all CaptainDippy. He was one of the happiest, most positive people you could meet. And extrememly caring too. He took his Mum out for a meal once a week without fail. I cannot imagine what could make such a lovely man think that taking his life was the only option left to him.

Thank-you for thinking of his family.

ShowOfHands · 04/09/2006 11:47

*extremely

Nanou1 · 04/09/2006 12:08

SoH. re being happy etc... strangely a colleague of a friend died in similar circumstances last week and she too stressed how it was a complete shock to everybody since so happy etc etc... something must go through one's mind to flip to such dramatic consequences. very for all those who loved him...

CaptainDippy · 04/09/2006 13:19

What a How Praying for them all. xx
