Elusive · 23/07/2014 19:31

Salaam all,

No itikaaf for me this year unfortunately.

Whats everyone wearing for eid?

MrsAtticus · 24/07/2014 02:01

No itikaf for me either, think we're just all shattered! I'm trying to motivate myself to sew an eid dress from some nice fabric someone bought me. Other options are to get a dye for a nice outfit that I have but the color doesn't suit me, or sew a breastfeeding zip in last years dress (which I also wore the year before!).

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 24/07/2014 17:03

Salaam all
Thank you green for my exciting smelling parcel! I haven't opened it as it looked like it was direct from the seller. I'm very excited!
Yummy I have posted yours today. How hot is it today? I'm afraid I gave up at 3pm today, after being out with DS in the heat for 3 hours I felt so bad whe I got home I had to drink. I will try again tomorrow.

greeneggsandjam · 24/07/2014 20:10

Good news that it arrived smelling so lovely Ehric! I hope you can hold out a few days and refrain from having a look inside!

It was pretty hot today. I had the luxury of not having to go out so I only stayed out for a bit over an hour. Time seems to be going very slowly at the moment.

I think I read on the news that rain might be coming tomorrow but perhaps that's wishful thinking...

Elusive · 25/07/2014 02:24

Phew, today is cooler here. DS is in the garden playing with the neighbour so I'm chilling out in my bedroom (I can hear them from here!) I will make some bread later as XH is coming for Iftar and I have said to DS that he can stay up. We are going to bake something together later too.

What do your families do to celebrate Eid?

greeneggsandjam · 25/07/2014 17:34

Thank you cresentmoon, I look forward to receiving it!

The weather was better today though it started out as a fairly hot morning. I decided to venture out to the mosque for Jummah prayers and the rain started just as we got to the mosque (which was fantastic!)

I have no idea of Eid plans Ehric. I had to work the last one so it was not very exciting and the one before that I went up to a big park where there was an Eid event on which was really nice.

MrsAtticus · 25/07/2014 18:17

crescent shall we assume I'm the last one in the chain then?
Other than going to the mosque for Eid prayer we don't really have a set thing that we do on Eid, but I think this year we may have a bbq.

yummytummy · 25/07/2014 20:34

salaam just wanted to say a big thankyou for a parcel that arrived today but dont know who its from!!! it was a white box with two wrapped pink presents and a smaller one and looks so lovely but i dont know who sent it as a few people were sending for kids? please identify yourself! or i will have to wait till eid when opened and can say what it is.

but really lifted my day. our quiet eid just us three will be brighter. it still makes me sad though that their father isnt interested and when i said about eid he was like u sort it and didnt seem to want to see them. neither does his family. ah well we will have presents and can make a cake together. any other ideas what we could all do on eid just us three?

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 25/07/2014 20:37

That wasn't my one yummy! I sent mine 2nd class so it should be with you by Monday.
Could you make some decorations? Ds was being a bit silly earlier and to focus him a bit we blew up the balloons and strung up the bunting I bought. Could you make some lovely eid bunting with sugar paper? Get them to draw stars and crescents on them. There is lots of stuff on Pinterest for Ramadan and eid decorations and things for kids.

greeneggsandjam · 25/07/2014 20:44

Salam yummy, it was from me! If you look at the previous post I said I was sending you a white box and I told you who the presents were for, I think the 2 smaller for the girl and the bigger for the boy but please look through the previous posts to check!

greeneggsandjam · 25/07/2014 20:46

I suggest you make a nice picnic and go to the park with it. I don't know where you live, is there a big Eid event going on near you like 1eid for example?

yummytummy · 25/07/2014 20:53

ah greeneggs yes i thought it was u as u said a white box but wanted to confirm. thanks. also once opened the kids will probably make thankyou cards so all the lovely people who sent stuff could i possibly ask for your addresses too? thanks again to all

thanks for message and tips crescent. unfortunately ex was exactly like the man in that film and my spirit is just as crushed. it was v triggering for me but i am glad it shows people what its like as that is exactly what its like. i can tell u without a doubt in time i would have been beneath that ironing board. and to think my parents wanted me to stay and put up with it. at least the girl in programme had support. i dont know it helped but also really upset me as i have to block a lot of what we went through out and its hard to remember it

yummytummy · 25/07/2014 21:53

so i dont need to watch any more i lived it

Salaam sisters

Sorry I haven't been on much, I hope you're all having a blessed Ramadan. I can't believe there's only a few days left, I too am hoping Eid will be on Tuesday! I was really looking forward to the last 10 days, I've never prayed Laylat ul Qadr before and I was planning to this year, but I came on so haven't been fasting for the last 6 days. So it looks like I've missed it/will miss it.

I'm really sorry but I won't be able to join your gift chain this year Sad. Next time inshaAllah.

Yummy, I'm sorry to hear of your tough time at the moment. Please just detach yourself from this man, you deserve better and so do your dc.

I haven't got a clue what I'm wearing for Eid yet, it's not looking likely that I'll be able to get anything new either, the kids all have theirs though. I just need to arrange the henna for the girls.

What's the weather like where you all are? It's been 29 here today, it's sweltering.

Can I ask you all, if you're not fasting do you refrain from eating and drinking in public? Out of respect I refrain, I also don't want anyone knowing what time of the month it is! But I'm very close to a sister who can't fast for medical reasons, and she just carries on as normal. I'm close enough to say to her I don't think she should, but that's just my opinion. I don't have any problem whatsoever with my non muslim friends and family eating/drinking. In fact I had some old friends round recently and they sat and tucked into my homemade cheesecake and tea whilst I was fasting.

greeneggsandjam · 26/07/2014 15:16

I received my 'Eid Friend' gift in the post today! I have hidden it in my cupboard to stop the temptation of looking to see what it is! Thank you crescentmoon :)

Can you let us know how the Living Islam event goes? I looked at it but by the time you hire a tent and get tickets and them add train tickets it becomes rather expensive though I would like to consider it for next year if its a yearly thing.

Are you attending the 1eid event in Ilford? If so do you have any idea how close it is to public transport? I don't know the area at all but would like to go even though it will take forever to get there! I went to their other London event last time but it seems the local council have put a stop to it.

Salaam Aleikum sisters.
I am new to this forum. I was wondering if anyone has the same experience of that loneliness on Eid day? No family around, and as a foreigner (although for so many years in this country), it is hard to find a place to go to.
I have always struggled at the time of Eid-I dress up in my best clothes, go to masjid and get back home.
anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts.
