Salaams/peace to all! I'm already missing our old thread, so taking the bull by the horns and opening our very own Muslim Tearoom, all welcome (non-Muslims too of course), to chat, share, ask questions etc etc. Imagine a cosy cafe with floor cushions, tea and coffee of all kinds, and lovely cakes! Please join me!

The the Prophet (saw) recited during the event of Tai'f is so beautiful it always brings tears to my eyes, Ta'if is now of course Muslim and it's a very beautiful place mashallah.

Good luck sis Crescent Smile, nothing worng in patting yourself on the back for achieving a goal Alhumdulillah.

And also May Allah protect everyone in the path of these winds (it's quite dark and windy on my end, not scary yet).

INVOCATION FOR WHEN THE WIND BLOWS

???????????? ??????? ???????????? ?????????? ????????? ??? ???????? ????????? ??? ??????????? ???? ?????????? ???? ???? ????????? ???????? ??? ???????? ???????? ??? ??????????? ????.
Transliteration:

Allaahumma innee as’aluka khairahaa, wa khaira maa feehaa, wa khaira maa ursilat bihi wa a’uthu bika min sharrihaa, wa sharri maa feeha, wa sharri maa ursilat bihi.
Translation:

O Allah, I ask you for the good of it, for the good of what it contains, and for the good of what is sent with it. I seek refuge in you from the evil of it, from the evil of what it contains, and from the evil that is sent with it.

I thought I'd share this with you from Imam Zaid Shakir, because it's lovely:

As-Salaam Alaikum,

Know that Almighty God is in control of the affairs of the creation and has promised good to the people of good. Therefore, do not allow the climate of hatred being fostered by some to cause you to despair. Your love and mercy are greater than their hatred. Also, know that if you are an active agent of good you will see unexpected positive consequences result from your actions. God mentions in the Qur'an, “Good and evil are not equal. Respond to evil with what is best. Unexpectedly, you will see one between whom you and him was great enmity become like an intimate friend.

This is only realized by one given to patience, this is only realized by one possessing a lofty spiritual station (41:34-35).” Have faith in God and His promise and never despair. Good is more powerful than evil; do all in your power to ensure that you are a force for good in the world.

Patience is a great virtue; patiently persevere in doing all of the good things you are currently doing and God will bless you in many wonderful ways.

I've been (loosely) following the Islamic banking trend. It's been on the up since the spectacular fall of conventional interest based banking. Was very amused to see a protest in America endorsing Islamic banking a few years back!

Shariah compliant banking is very hard to come by tho, the UK rates are far too closely linked to interest rates for my comfort.

I'll have a read at lunch time.

I do tend to fast more during winter (well I do the conventional Monday and Thursday fasts and the fasts for Muharram specifically the 10th which the Jewish people also observe, marking the day Allah delivered the children of Israel from Pharaoh).
So basically the fasts of the Prophets David and Moses (pbut)!

Salaam ladies, if anyone has any specific questions about Islamic finance, I do have good connections so can get your questions answered. Let me know.

KayHarker · 01/11/2013 17:33

Hi ladies, hope you don't mind a stranger rocking up and sitting down with you. I'm currently a nominal Christian, in the middle of an Alpha course and with a committed Christian family. But I have recently become quite interested in Islam - I love the 'names of God' and all that beautiful poetic stuff. I know that there's lot within Islam that is problematic to a liberal western viewpoint, but I'm just interested in finding out more. I've heard a talk by Yusuf Estes and he was quite engaging.

fuzzywuzzy · 01/11/2013 20:57

I'm pretty sure non of us mind, we have Viking who comes on this thread too everyones welcome Smile

I love Yusuf Estes he is amazing, and you're rigght he is very engaging. I beleive he's one of the speakers exepcted the the GPU, anyone on here going? I'm tihnking about it need to get my butt in gear and book the tickets.

Hi all another christian here, but I was just feeling sad about a thread on aibu in which ppl talked about Christianity in a way that made me sad and I thought this must happen a lot for Muslims, I guess. It makes me sad when my religion is misused by christians or misunderstood by others, when it is such a blessing to me. There has been a lot of negative stuff said about Islam in recent years and that is a shame. I have a hope one day we will learn to enjoy our religions and still get along as friends.
Well personally i dont know much about Islam but i am a big fan of cat Stevens a.k.a Yusuf not sure how popular he is amongst Muslim ladies tho? But i really like his recent albums they are lovely.

defuse · 02/11/2013 23:05

Just lost a long message I wrote from my phone! Hello kay, hello mumintheworld and welcome to the muslim tea room. It is lovely to have you here. Smile I will write the message again and post tomorrow from my computer as I cant rewrite on this stupid phone. Ironically it was about patience and forbearance which I obviously dont have much of! Smile

defuse · 03/11/2013 23:57

Hi everyone. I know nothing about cat stevens music, pre and post islam! I think he has done a few kids' islamic rhymes, but not sure. As for the stuff on the forums being hurtful, i suppose that is where patience and forbearance comes into it. We all know that christianity and islam have so much in common, yet it is sad that we let differences divide rather than being tolerant.

I try to ignore the horrible stuff that gets said and try to remain diplomatic, but that is easier said than done - i obviously need to replenish my stock of patience! Smile

Talking of patience, there is an islamic saying that the reward for patience will be like heavy rain. I pray that my dear sisters who are facing hard times at the moment will reap their rewards in abundance for being so strong.

defuse · 03/11/2013 23:58

Trying to teach Allah's names to my children, they are truly beautiful. But gotta learn them myself first! Smile

VikingVagine · 04/11/2013 11:52

there is an islamic saying that the reward for patience will be like heavy rain.

That just about sums up the British misunderstanding of Islam; no one there would wish for heavy rain Grin

Disclaimer, I love in the south of France (drought every summer) so totally get the saying!

VikingVagine · 04/11/2013 11:54

live dammit! not love!

thehorridestmumintheworld · 04/11/2013 17:36

I've always liked cat Stevens and been interested in his story of giving up his music career at the height of his fame to focus on his religion. He had a come back a few years ago, he said he wanted to use his music as a way to improve interfaith relations after all the recent troubles. I really like his new albums they have a lot of religious things in them but very easy to listen to.
Lol at British ppl not wanting heavy rain. But defuse i think you are right this is the way to improve things and not by speaking harsh words that will only create more bad feeling.
Are you allowed to write out some of the names of Allah I would be interested to hear them.

fuzzywuzzy · 04/11/2013 20:24

Defuse I got a convert friend a book called, Learn Arabic with the names of Allah, each page had a name of Allah with the emaning and the arabic alphabet in order, it is for kids but she loved it.

There are 99 names for Allah, some

defuse · 04/11/2013 22:51

Viking Grin. I did have to think twice about writing about heavy rain as i know that might not go down too well here in UK. Grin

Well, at least you get it Smile

Fuzzy has kindly linked to a video with meanings - thanks for the book name fuzzy, gonna try to get my hands on it.

Mumintheworld, one of my favourite names of Allah right now is ar-Rahman. It means compassionate, but also gets translated as Merciful, Gracious. There are many reasons why this name is awesome but as a mother, its my favourite because Allah says

'I Am Ar-Rahman (most merciful) I created the Raham (womb) and derived a name for it from My Name.'

As a mother this explanation takes my breath away.

Another reason for liking the name Ar-Rahman is because of the chapter in the quran called Rahman. It is so beautiful, rhythmic, poetic and also known as the beauty of Quran.

There are another 98 names which i also like, but would take a while to explain why i like each one. Smile

If there are any names of Allah that anyone likes but wants an explanation about its meaning, just put them on this thread and i am sure someone will be able to explain its literal meaning with brief summary Smile

TeaJunky · 04/11/2013 22:59
