. I did have to think twice about writing about heavy rain as i know that might not go down too well here in UK.

Fuzzy has kindly linked to a video with meanings - thanks for the book name fuzzy, gonna try to get my hands on it.
Mumintheworld, one of my favourite names of Allah right now is ar-Rahman. It means compassionate, but also gets translated as Merciful, Gracious. There are many reasons why this name is awesome but as a mother, its my favourite because Allah says
'I Am Ar-Rahman (most merciful) I created the Raham (womb) and derived a name for it from My Name.'
As a mother this explanation takes my breath away.
Another reason for liking the name Ar-Rahman is because of the chapter in the quran called Rahman. It is so beautiful, rhythmic, poetic and also known as the beauty of Quran.
There are another 98 names which i also like, but would take a while to explain why i like each one.
If there are any names of Allah that anyone likes but wants an explanation about its meaning, just put them on this thread and i am sure someone will be able to explain its literal meaning with brief summary
