Next door caused that much fuss about our puppy last year climbing through the fence and doing his business in their garden and more to the point refusing to fix the shared fence so he couldn't do it, that we rehomed him.
It wasn't the only reason by far but if he'd been able to play in the garden plenty of other issues would have been easier to live with to say the least.
Well they have just informed me they are getting a new dog, not just that but one that grows to 68kg's and poo's like an elephant.
Am so cross they are either going to fix the fence when it suits them to have an animal or think that they are going to inflict the dog on us when our children had to loose theirs

You could have patched it up for much, much less than that. To keep your dog it only needed to be secure, not perfect.

You will have to take my word for it that chicken wire wasn't going to work, we got quotes end of story.

I agree he was our responsibility of course he was, it'll just be interesting to see what happens when it works the other way I guess and how they feel when I turn the hose on their pet and send my husband round to discuss the matter because it seems it's one rule for them but another for us.

Forgive me I am letting off steam because I had to smile nicely at their DD when she announced their new arrival through gritted teeth this afternoon.

It just seems a shame that we'll either fall out over this or their children will be having a dog for 6 months then loosing it too.

It's a shame that you couldn't afford to secure your garden - but if they can afford to secure their garden then fair enough that they get a dog? Your dog wasn't their responsibility.

So long as they fix the fence or keep their dog in, they aren't doing anything wrong.

I wasn't suggesting chicken wire. I was thinking more along the lines of the wire fencing used in schools and parks (to enclose tennis courts etc). Not pretty, but it works.

I'm sorry but how on earth is it your neighbours' fault that your dog broke out of your (unsecured) garden and shat on their lawn?

I'm oblivious to why you are angry with them. If their dog starts breaking into your garden and shitting on your lawn then fair enough - but it hasn't happened yet. You had to rehome your pet because you couldn't keep it secure. There's nothing unreasonable about them not liking it shitting on their garden, nor is it reasonable to expect them to come up with £2k to fix your security problem.

But this is my point missus there was discussion at the time about how to keep our dog out their garden and DH suggested the shared cost of a new fence and it was absolutely out of the question, so I don't believe for a minute they are planning to sort the fence and they would have to come into our garden to do so which again, nobody has mentioned.
Ok I'm annoyed in anticipation of what I think will happen but so far they've not given me any reason to believe that we now won't have the reverse problem.

Well, if my neighbour wanted me to cough up a grand to keep their dog from crapping on my lawn, I wouldn't have paid it either.

is the comment from their child the only thing you';e heard? because i've told ds he can have a dog. when he is old enough to walk it, which will not be for a long time!

so maybe she has the wrong end of the stick?
or amybe the dog won't be allowed in the garden, or maybe it will and they'll do something with the fence?

THEY TURNED THE HOSE ON OUR PUPPY so if I have to do the same to get it out of mine then so be it.
