Not enjoying dog ownership when to call it a day ?

Long story short, did a bit of research into what dog to get as I cannot stand hair, so thought we were buying a labradoddle.
Turns out he's all Lab and no Doddle, there are fine blonde hairs everywhere, could be worse but I hate it.
Combined with the fact that the kids begged for him and now ignore him, he chases the cats around the house and jumps fences to shit in next doors garden all in all I've had enough.
Is this going to get better or do I rehome him whilst he still has the cute little dog factor ?

To be honest it doesnt sound like you thought about this thoroughly before committing. He is simply doing what dogs do.

It won't get better but it will get worse if you don't spend a lot of time every day (pretty much forever) on training him.

If you arent prepared to do this then I would rehome now and never get another dog again.

you don't sound responsible enough to own a pet, rehome him with someone who will look after him

puppies and young dogs are really hard work.. they with the right training .. i.e to learn to ignore your cat and sort out other things you need doggies to do or not do.. can be a fab dcompanion and it does all get easier.

Dog hair is dog hair and if you hate it there is not a lot you can do about it.. other than just clean it up all the time. Although I clip my spaniel which helps a lot.
Good grooming routine will keep it to a minimum.

You could get your dc's involved in training and there are lots of clubs about.

But tbh.. some people just don't do dogs.

I'll be honest I hate the poor thing, he is just doing what a dog does so he'll have to go.

which bit of the country are you in... and tell me everything about this pooch.

I may ( it's only a maybe tho) know of someone who'd love to take him on.. but I 'll need his whole story.. and I need to check with them first.

Millymolly, where are you in the contry? Is he a lab cross poodle or a labradoodle bred with another labradoodle? (often refered to s 1st generation, 2nd genereation etc).

They are a sought after breed and you will be able to find him a good home with a little bit of work, try googling for a breed resuce in your area. Just please don't take him to the RSPCA or hand him to a friend of a friend type arrangement as you have no way of knowing where he will end up. A breed rescue should be able to arrange a vetted home and help out with any problems the new owners come across etc. They may also do a home to home adoption which minimises trauma for the dog.

If a dog is not for you then there is no point prolonging it, admitting it and dealing with it is the best thing for your dog right now.

Maybe you didn't get a labradoddle as there is no such dog.

It is a labradoodle and couldn't you tell this when you picked him up?

Poor dog. Get him rehomed asap and maybe teach your kids that pets are not just for 5 minutes.

We did not buy him on a whim thank you.
And he will not be going to a pound or put down.

However he does need to go and I'm happy to travel to ensure he gets a good home.
Full history, well we bought him from a breeder at 7 weeks, he's up to date with his vaccinations and is approx 6 months, will check exact dates.
He's a cross with a golden Lab and I'm guessing a light coloured pooddle.
We paid £250 for him but he didn't come with any paperwork so I'm assuming he doesn't count as any sort of pedigree.
He's certainly not a bad fella, will sit nicely with us at night, can be let off the lead in the park and comes back happily.

Actually I suggest you take it back to the breeders (all good breeders should take back). If they wont then take it to a rehoming place that will check the homes.

Please do not find it a home on an internet chat room. FGS, be responsible about this at least.

we might be intrested, we have been discussing getting a dog for a while, and i dont like little dogs. DD1 has ASD and she loves dogs and Im working less hours so home more. We also cant go aboard at the moment so will just be camping and would take dog with us. Only thing that worries me is how much they cost. Not including food and insurance, what other money would i need to take inot account?

Labs are fantastic dogs once trained, really good family pets.

How old is he? If he's still cute you will get lots of takers.

Yes you did a daft thing but its better that you rehome him now so he gets a chance to settle into a family before he gets too old.

The breeder should take him back regardless of age.

I think mumsnet should have a rule about dogs being exchanged. It really isn't right you do it this way.

will say up until i met my husband i have always had dogs. DH never had a dog but loves them. I know there is a local puppy school nearby too
Even if i couldnt give ahome to milies dog, if someone could talk me though costs, things to think about ect i wouldbe grateful.

I agree about rehoming here (or any other forum, I have seen people free-cycle their dogs FGS), the best thing you can do (and anyone who cares about the dog would agree) is get in touch with a breed rescue and then post the details of the breed rescue who is dealing with him here.

That way any people who are interested can contact them and be assessed etc and you can be sure you are doing the best for him.

Mumsnet have a rule about selling animals, fair enough, I'm not selling him.

You're missing the point about the rule then. It's not about the money as such....

Go back to the breeder.Send the poor dog back to an enviroment he knows and let them rehome him. They may already have people waiting or know people who want an older puppy.
Then post which breeder if you want to let people on here know.

I'd be somewhat reclutant to go back to the breeder on the basis that she lied to me about his coat and therefore he could end up in the same position again.

Report the breeder.

For what ? She didn't give me any papers
