Should we adopt this old girl

So my sister in law has just put her beautiful 9year old golden retriever into a shelter because she basically can't be bother with her anymore. Shes had a tough life and was neglected before my sister in law got her 5 or 6 years ago. Anyway I really want to take this dog in. But we have 2 cats and a 2year old, I know she is very good with kids and has been lovely since my sister in law has had her. This beautiful dog is in Ireland and we're in England so would be a big leap of faith bringing her over and im worried it will be a disaster. I just know we could provide a lovely retirement home for her and would never give up on her like her previous owners. Should we go for it?

@Arabella91

I am in Dublin, Ireland and I recently said goodbye to my beautiful boy.

If you cannot take her, I would happily give her a home.

She is beautiful

Go for it.

The WORST that can happen is that if it doesn't work out with your child , the dog ends up in a shelter and gets rehomed to someone else.

Don't worry about the cats. We always had cats and they explained to each new rescue dog on day one, that whatever doggy notions the newbie had about cats, CATS RULE HERE SO GET WITH THE PROGRAM, DOG. The dogs all did.

@Arabella91

Hey *@3001signon* yes I spoke to the shelter this morning and they basically said because of her age they would find it really hard to rehome her. We ARE taking her. My husband is going over on Monday (which feels like a life time away) to pick our girl up and bring her home. We have an orthopedic bed on order for her and are getting advice on the best way to introduce her to our cats. I'm being realistic about the adjustment but I honestly can't wait to have her. I will for sure post pictures when she's home. Here's a pic of her today that the shelter sent over. She looks so sad
Oh you are wonderful...You all are very lucky... I am a dog nut! You will absolutely love her. tears..

I'm hugging my big old rescue now! Flowers

Just seen her photo with her lovely beautiful hopeful face. I am so pleased you will give her the love she deserves. I hope today goes smoothly and please post a photo when she’s back with you and finally living her best life.

Oh my word I have tears streaming down my face. She is gorgeous and you are just wonderful.

I wish you lots of years of happiness with her.

I’m sure they’ll be fine. We’ve brought many a young, over excited rescue dog into our house with cats. They all get on in the end. We have a stair gate so the cats can get upstairs if they want and the dogs can’t.

userxx · 12/03/2022 09:11

Awwww, this is just lovely. She's a beauty and looks so much younger than her years. Can't wait for the update.

Exactly the same here.

RandomMess · 12/03/2022 10:03

@Tigandgab the cats love having an additional underling to boss around and use for warmth on cold days.

Mine cats were 7 when we got a rescue dog, after 2 days she was treated like a piece of hot furniture. Our latest rescue cat simply leapt on the cat like a big cat onto a gazelle. A week like new cat was a rather disappointed that dog won't play with him, a year later it's much the same the dog is far too wary of his enthusiasm 🤣

Ellmau · 13/03/2022 02:32

Poor old girl, I hope the trip has gone OK and she is with you now.

kylie127 · 13/03/2022 03:05

She seems sweet please adopt her

1forAll74 · 13/03/2022 03:52

Yes, this a lovely thing to do, I hope she settles in well with you..
