Should we adopt this old girl

So my sister in law has just put her beautiful 9year old golden retriever into a shelter because she basically can't be bother with her anymore. Shes had a tough life and was neglected before my sister in law got her 5 or 6 years ago. Anyway I really want to take this dog in. But we have 2 cats and a 2year old, I know she is very good with kids and has been lovely since my sister in law has had her. This beautiful dog is in Ireland and we're in England so would be a big leap of faith bringing her over and im worried it will be a disaster. I just know we could provide a lovely retirement home for her and would never give up on her like her previous owners. Should we go for it?

Kayjay2018 · 08/03/2022 19:57

Oh look at her face. You are absolutely doing the right thing

Babyvenusplant · 08/03/2022 19:58

Thank you for doing this ❤

TenThousandSpoons · 08/03/2022 20:01

What a beautiful dog. So glad you are taking her in.

bengalcat · 08/03/2022 20:01

Fabulous - cats will be ok they rule the roost anyway

Mojoj · 08/03/2022 20:03

Congratulations on your beautiful new addition. You are doing a lovely thing and will be rewarded. Your sister-in-law on the other hand....😡😡😡😡😡😡

ABitBesotted · 08/03/2022 20:04

Oh God, poor darling.
You and your family are doing a wonderful thing.

It is clear to everyone here you will be giving her the best years of her life.

ChrisSays · 08/03/2022 20:05

You lovely human op, I shed a tear for this dog which I know is silly but it’s reading about such kindness as the world is so awful at the moment.
I always take in the oldies and the most unwanted ones, very rewarding.
How will your relationship be with your sister? I would find it difficult to forgive her doing this.

ABitBesotted · 08/03/2022 20:08

I would say be very careful to get the paperwork from the shelter, transferring ownership, so she doesn't try snatching back the dog when it suits her.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/03/2022 20:08

Aww bless you. She’s gorgeous. She also looks so sad and scared. ❤️

Fuckitydoodah · 08/03/2022 20:09

Oh god this has made me really emotional. I just can't I understand why anyone would do that to her.

You're doing the right thing. Goldies are the most loving and gentle natured dogs. We had two when I was growing up. I loved them to bits.

RubyRue79 · 08/03/2022 20:10

So glad you are taking her. We adopted a 11 year lurcher, best thing we have ever done. Breaks my heart the older ones get overlooked.

TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek · 08/03/2022 20:13

@Arabella91 Thank you so, so much for your love and compassion - you have brought tears to my eyes (good tears of course) x

abeanbaked · 08/03/2022 20:15

This made me so happy - golden retrievers are the best. Mine gives me the run around but she is two and nutty, when she's 9 I will enjoy every 'slower' walk and cuddle I can get 😍

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 08/03/2022 20:17

She looks so sad and hurt!
Sad
We took on an 8 yo ddog. She is an amazing girl.
Hard to believe she lived outside with a square of carpet and not even a blanket..

Should we adopt this old girl
ABitBesotted · 08/03/2022 20:19

Easter she's a sweetheart, too❤❤❤

Anyfeckinusername · 08/03/2022 20:22

She’s lovely OP! That’s great news.

Sorry but wanted to flag this again so you don’t get any issues travelling… if she is in the republic and you are being in her to England, since brexit she needs a rabies shot on her passport and she can only travel three weeks after it’s given. We did this in December, and although absolutely nobody checked our papers on the ferry, it is a new requirement since U.K. left the EU. I’ll shut up now. And best of luck to her and you!!

Cherrysherbet · 08/03/2022 20:23

Oh she is so beautiful ❤️ Well done for bringing her home op. We had a gorgeous golden retriever, and she truly was the most wonderful girl.
I hope you and your girl have many happy years together.

ButtockUp · 08/03/2022 20:24

Do it!
I have one. They are so biddable gentle and loving. They have very soft mouths and are unlikely to cause any harm. Their teeth, after puppyhood just don't sink into flesh... very, very gentle.
They love to be loved, and they know it.

You won't regret it.

catstale · 08/03/2022 20:25

Ah thank you for doing such a wonderful thing. I can't bear to think of animals in shelters, I'm so pleased you will give her a loving home.

Susu49 · 08/03/2022 20:28

She's so beautiful and that photo is heartbreaking, I'm so pleased you're taking her Star

Lovewineandchocolate · 08/03/2022 20:34
