Small/medium dogs that don't shed hair?

Is there any dogs that don't shed or shed very little? I want to get a small to medium sized dog but don't want dog hairs all over my furniture if it can be avoided. I remember as a child we had a dog and the hairs where so bad I was going to get a pug but heard these shed really bad? Tia.

I’ve had both. No shedding at all.

Scottish Terrier not a good choice for a first time owner though. Law unto themselves.

Miniature schnauzer. Got two. Daughter allergic to all fluffy dogs/ cats . Never a sneeze or cough in 11 years of these two. Lovdkg natured dogs.

I have shih tzus, hey don't loose hair and I'm yet to be allergic to them.
They are fantastic company really friendly little dogs. They do need walking but not the sort of walking larger breeds need.
They do need to visit the groomers though unless your skilled in that area

I've got two mini schnauzers too, they're a bit high maintenance in terms of grooming and they're typical gobby terriers if not socialised properly while pups BUT they are such marvellous little dogs that love cuddles and give back in spades

Please remember it is an actual animal and not a toy. All
breeds shed hair although some far less than others. Some breeds require a large amount of coat maintenance, some less so. You need to be considering the dog's needs, behaviour and if they are a good fit for your family and circumstances as well.

No poodle crosses. You have no idea what sort of coat it would have.
Pugs and any pushed in nose breeds have huge health problems.
The shedding isn’t the only thing to consider. How much exercise and training are you prepared to do? How much will the dog be left? Do you want a dog you can just brush or one you have to pay to have groomed? What characteristics couldn’t you live with? Barking? Separation anxiety?

OT - schnauzers aren't terriers

If you get a poodle cross you have no idea what it's coat will be like.
I have a mini. They are lovely dogs. I don't like the poodle clip.

Schnauzer. They’re big enough to jump onto your knee and small enough to cuddle. However, OP, please make sure you really know what you’re doing before you get a dog, as they can be quite destructive when young, not to mention have little accidents in the house. I hope you don’t have unrealistic expectations.

Dog breeds with either curly or long hair won't shed as much as other types. So the already mentioned Poodle (the Miniature version fits your size requirements) as well as small companion dogs: Lhasa Apso, Havanese, Shih Tzu, Maltese... You can keep those breeds on a puppy trim so the brushing doesn't take so long.

Then you can branch out of the Companions... Curly coated retriever, Portuguese water dog (although you'll probably find them too big).

Most importantly, are you keen to get a dog, or are you bowing down to someone's wishes? All breeds shed, even if little.

Like a PP said, it would also be very helpful if you told us what else you're looking for in a dog, like activity level, personality, time the dog will be alone...

Finally, remember a good breeder will have their dogs shown, extensively tests and as a consequence will have a wait list. If someone has a new litter with all pups avaliable (and worse, let's you pick the one you want with no regards to matching a dog to you) run for the hills.

MIL has a cavachon he is fantastic with the children and doesn't shed a hair.

@feliciabirthgiver. A cavachon is a cross and not a breed. You can’t guarantee temperament or lack of shedding. Plus such crosses generally come from puppy farms.

Nothing wrong with a crossbreed. If you’re prepared to accept the unknown. Everything wrong with a “designer” crossbreed bred by puppy farmers and sold to unsuspecting buyers as non shedding.
